  4. Thank you for choosing to evaluate TextPad.  It came first in its
  5. category in the 1995 Ziff-Davis Shareware Awards competition, and it
  6. got the PC Plus Gold Award in the May '95 issue.

  22. INTRODUCTION:
  23. -------------
  24. TextPad aims to provide the power and functionality to satisfy your most
  25. demanding text editing requirements.  It is Windows hosted, and comes in
  26. 16 and 32-bit editions.  Huge files can be edited by either - just choose
  27. the edition that works best with your PC.  The 32-bit edition is only
  28. limited by virtual memory, and it will work with Win32s and Windows 95.

  30. TextPad has been implemented according to the Windows 95 user interface
  31. guidelines, so great attention has been paid to making it easy for both
  32. beginners and experienced users.  In-context help is available for all
  33. commands, and in-context menus pop-up with the right mouse button.  The
  34. multi-document interface allows multiple files to be edited simultaneously,
  35. with up to 2 views on each file.  You can drag and drop text between files.

  37. In addition to the usual cut and paste capabilities, you can correct the
  38. most common typing errors with commands to change case, and transpose words,
  39. characters and lines.  Other commands let you indent blocks of text, split
  40. or join lines, and insert whole files.  Any change can be undone or redone,
  41. right back to the first one made.  Visible bookmarks can be put on lines.

  43. It also has a customizable tools menu, and integral file compare and search
  44. commands, with hypertext jumps from the matched text to the corresponding
  45. line in the source file (ideal for integrating compilers).

  50. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  53.       o 386SX with 4MB RAM        o 486SX with 4MB RAM (12MB for NT)
  54.       o 1MB free disk space       o 1MB free disk space
  55.       o Windows 3.1 in 386        o Windows 95 or NT 3.5 or
  56.          enhanced mode               Windows 3.1 with Win32s 1.2

  58. INSTALLATION:
  59. -------------
  60.     WARNING:  If your disk or ZIP file contains BOTH editions of
  61.     TextPad, SETUP.EXE is a 32-bit program.  So if you want to install
  62.     the 16-bit edition of TextPad, use SETUP16.EXE instead.  This does
  63.     not apply if you only have the 16-bit edition.

  65.     Installing From a ZIP File:
  66.         1) Unzip into a new temporary directory, with PKUNZIP 2.04g.
  67.         2) Run SETUP.EXE using File Manager or Program Manager.
  68.         3) Follow the on-screen instructions, but install into a
  69.            different directory from that in step 1 above.
  70.         4) Delete the files unzipped in step 1 above.

  72.     Installing From Floppy Disk:
  73.         1) From Program Manager, choose the Run command from the
  74.            File menu.
  75.         2) Type "A:\SETUP" to run the TextPad setup program.
  76.         3) Follow the on-screen instructions.

  78.     You can install both editions into the same directory.
  79.     There is no need to modify your search path.

  85. RESTRICTED FEATURES:
  86. --------------------
  87.     The following features are only available to registered users:
  88.  
  89.     1) OLE2 drag and drop editing.  Local drag and drop editing is always
  90.        available, but scrolling has not been implemented.  This means that
  91.        you can drop text in the visible view, but you cannot scroll the
  92.        view whilst dragging.
  93.     2) Searching of subdirectories with the Find in Files command.

  95. REGISTRATION:
  96. -------------
  97.     If you make use of TextPad you must register it.  Registered users
  98.     will receive a copy of the latest releases of both the 16 and 32-bit
  99.     editions, along with the Win32s and OLE2 files necessary for running
  100.     in 32-bit mode on Windows 3.1.
