Task Pro Version 2.00 - Important Notes
---------------------------------------
VISA/MasterCard registration now available!
-------------------------------------------
You can now register Task Pro with your Visa or MasterCard
via telephone, FAX, or e-mail. Of course, you can still
register online on CompuServe, and by check or money order.
For complete information, see the registration section of the
Task Help file.
Hidden Windows
--------------
When using the "Hide" context button when in Window View, it is
important to remember that unless you have configured Task Pro
to display hidden windows, when you hide a window it will no longer
be displayed in the Window View. To display the window, and be able
to "Show" it again you will need to enable the "Show hidden windows
in Window View" option in the Settings dialog.
New Context buttons in Function Bar
-----------------------------------
The new context buttons in the Function Bar give you greater
control of your system. For example, you can now show, hide,
minimize, restore, or obtain information on a selected window.
What's New?
-----------
The version 2.0 update to Task Pro is a huge upgrade to the
product. For those of you that are familiar with previous
versions of Task Pro be sure to check out the What's New
section of the Task Pro Help file. It provides an overview
of some of the major feature additions and enhancements.
Configuration Wizard
--------------------
The Configuration Wizard makes configuring Task Pro in any
environment a snap. To use the Configuration Wizard after
installation, just press the Configure button.
New Listbox features
--------------------
The column listbox control that has been used throughout
Task Pro has some great features. You can size the columns
by dragging the column marker. You can sort the list by a
column by clicking on the column header. You can also toggle
ascending or descending sort by double-clicking on the column
header. All of these size and sort settings will be saved
from session to session.
Configuring Buttons
-------------------
To configure the Quick Launch Buttons(the buttons along
the bottom of Task Pro), use the right mouse button.
The left mouse button launches the configured application.
Quick Launch Key Search
----------------------
The Quick Launch Key Search searches your object list
as you type and attempts to match your typing to one of
your Quick Launch Keys. As soon as a unique key has been
built the application or document is launched. You may also
press <Enter> to launch as soon as the item you are looking
for becomes visible in the region above the edit field.
Task Pro Configuration
----------------------
The Configuration Wizard will configure everything for you.
However, the following information is provided in case you are
curious about the different configuration options.
Running Task Pro as the Task Manager
------------------------------------
Task Pro can easily replace the Task Manager, allowing you
to bring it up by pressing <Ctrl-Esc>. The following
steps are required to install Task Pro as the Task Manager.
(Again, these steps are all done for you by the Configuration
Wizard.)
1. Modify the SYSTEM.INI. The line "taskman.exe=
<PATH>TASKPRO.EXE" will be need to be added or modified where
<PATH> is the full path into which you installed Task Pro.
2. In the Task Pro Settings dialog box, the Deactivation Action
will have to be set to either "Hide" on "Minimize". When Task
Pro is installed as the Task Manager, it will need to hide or
minimize itself when another application gets focus. The standard
Windows Task Manager exits and restarts each time you invoke it.
However, Task Pro uses intelligient activation/deactivation to
improve performance Task Pro simply hides and shows itself.
3. To speed initial loading, Task Pro should be added to the
StartUp group. The command line for Task Pro should include the
argument "/s". This tells Task Pro not to show itself, but
instead, simply load and wait to be invoked.
Running Task Pro as a stand-alone utility
-----------------------------------------
Task Pro can also be used as a standard utility application.
Only one step is required to configure Task Pro for stand-alone
operation.(Again, this is done for you by the Configuration
Wizard.)
1. In the Task Pro Settings dialog box, the Deactivation Action
should be set to "None". Task Pro will behave as a normal
application and will not hide or minimize itself based on
activation/deactivation.
