  22. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Description ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  24. Galleria/CM is a utility for capturing the displayed desktop or portions 
  25. thereof, and saving the image captured in a bitmap. Either the whole desktop 
  26. (screen contents), windows for selected applications, a selected region or the 
  27. contents of a window can be captured. The result can be saved in the clipboard 
  28. for subsequent pasting into another application, printed, stored on disk in a 
  29. number of bitmap file formats or Galleria invoked for further processing of the 
  30. image.

  32. For instructions on setting options and initiating captures double-click on the 
  33. following topics:

  39.  Once the capture is complete, the image will be output to the selected 
  40.  destination. A status of working below the minimized icon indicates that 
  41.  processing of the image is incomplete. The time for this processing will 
  42.  depend on the options selected. Note that another capture can be initiated 
  43.  while in the working status but processing and output of the second image is 
  44.  queued.

  49.  Select Close from the system menu to terminate the program. The current 
  50.  capture options will be saved for subsequent execution.

  53. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Controlling Galleria/CM from the desktop ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  55. To display Galleria/CM as an icon the desktop you must set the Minimize button 
  56. behaviour to Minimize window to desktop. This option is found on the Window 
  57. page on the settings notebook. It is set by default on installation. 
  58.  
  59. When Galleria/CM is started, a boxed icon will appear at the bottom of the 
  60. desktop. The options dialog can be displayed by single clicking on this icon 
  61. and selecting Options. To initiate a capture, select Snap or double-click on 
  62. this icon.

  64. If a delayed capture is specified, a count of the remaining seconds to the 
  65. capture will be shown below the Galleria/CM icon. Select Stop countdown to 
  66. terminate a delayed capture.

  68. If you would prefer to control Galleria/CM by the keyboard only, set the 
  69. Minimize button behaviour to Hide window instead.

  74. To control Galleria/CM operations from the keyboard you must start the program 
  75. with the -k parameter. It is set by default on installation.

  77. When Galleria/CM is started, the options dialog can be displayed by pressing 
  78. Ctrl+Print Screen. To initiate a capture, press the Snap button from the 
  79. options dialog. Alternatively, save the current settings and press Print 
  80. Screen.

  82. If you would prefer to control Galleria/CM from the desktop only, remove the -k 
  83. startup parameter.

  90. Use the Options dialog to select the source and destination for the capture. 
  91.  
  92. The source can be either the Desktop (entire screen contents), all windows for 
  93. selected Application(s), a selected Region or a selected Window frame or Window 
  94. client. 
  95.  
  96. Both Desktop and Application(s) sources will result in a screen size capture 
  97. being taken. For a Desktop capture, the current (or delayed) desktop contents 
  98. will form the resultant image. For Application(s) captures, only those windows 
  99. belonging to the selected application(s) will be captured and the background 
  100. will be blanked out.

  102. For Active window captures, the contents of the window active at the end of the 
  103. delay period will be automatically selected. 
  104.  
  105. When a Region, Window frame or Window client capture is initiated, the status 
  106. will change to selecting and a pointer displayed to enable a region or window 
  107. to be selected. For a Region capture, position the top left-hand corner of the 
  108. box displayed and click the left mouse button, then size the box and click the 
  109. left mouse button again. The inclosed area will form the captured image. For 
  110. Window frame or Window client captures, move the four arrow mouse pointer over 
  111. the window desired and click the left mouse button. The whole window or client 
  112. area will form the captured image.

  114. Note that dialog windows should be captured with the Window frame option. 
  115.  
  116. The output destination can be either Galleria, the clipboard, a file on disk or 
  117. a specified print queue. 
  118.  
  119. A destination of Galleria will invoke a new session of Galleria for further 
  120. processing of the image. The captured image will be displayed in the main 
  121. Galleria window. 
  122.  
  123. Alternatively, the destination of Galleria (DDE) will transfer the captured 
  124. image to a current Galleria session via DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange). If no 
  125. available Galleria session exists then a new one will be started. The DDE link 
  126. will be broken when either Galleria or Galleria/CM is closed, or the 
  127. destination is changed.

  129. Selecting Clipboard will place the image in the system clipboard in a standard 
  130. format for subsequent pasting into another application. 
  131.  
  132. Selecting File will save the image in a file on disk. The file name and format 
  133. are specified in the File Options dialog. 
  134.  
  135. Selecting Printer will print the captured image. The printer queue, layout etc. 
  136. can be changed in the Printer Options dialog. 
  137.  
  138. For Desktop, Application(s) and Active window captures, a timed delay can be 
  139. set to allow rearrangement of the screen contents. Select Stop countdown from 
  140. the system menu to abort delayed captures. Note that a delay must always be set 
  141. for Active window captures.

  143. Additionally, the pointer icon (cursor) can be included in Desktop or 
  144. Application(s) captures. Select Add border to enclose the captured image with a 
  145. line border.

  147. Select Prompt for options to display the Options dialog when each capture is 
  148. initiated. 
  149.  
  150. Press More to change options for the currently selected destination. 
  151.  
  152. Press OK to accept these changes or Cancel to ignore changes and exit with 
  153. original settings.

  158. If the File destination is selected in the Options dialog, the image will be 
  159. saved on disk in a file with the name given and in the format specified. 
  160. Specify the full path name to the output file. If the file name ends with a 
  161. sequence number (eg. SNAP0123.BMP) the number component can be automatically 
  162. incremented on each capture to permit a series of files to be retained.

  164. Select the desired format for the output file from the list given. Note that 
  165. the OS/2 2.x format may not be accepted by older applications. Some formats 
  166. have an optional compressed form which may reduce the disk space required to 
  167. store the file created. Select Compressed to enable compression.

  170. supported.

  172. Press OK to accept these changes or Cancel to ignore changes and return to main 
  173. options dialog with original settings.

  176. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2. Printer options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  178. If the Printer destination is selected in the Options dialog, the captured 
  179. image will be printed. 
  180.  
  181. Specify the Queue for the print. To change printer driver settings see Setup 
  182. below. Note that the selected Queue can also represent drivers provided with 
  183. OS/2 fax software. 
  184.  
  185. Select the Area percentage to limit the output size. The value specified is a 
  186. percentage of the total page area. Note that the image printed may be smaller 
  187. in area than that specified if it would otherwise overlap the border above. 
  188. This value is ignored if the Print to scale option is selected. 
  189.  
  190. Select a Border percentage to leave a blank edge along all sides of the page. 
  191. The value specified is a percentage of the page width and height. 
  192.  
  193. For fine tuning monochrome output, the relative Color bias percentages can be 
  194. changed to lighten/darken areas of the image depending on the red/green/ blue 
  195. intensity of the original. A higher bias will result in a lighter tone for 
  196. areas of that color. 
  197.  
  198. Additionally, the overall intensity can be changed by setting the desired 
  199. Brightness. Position the slider arm at the desired position. 
  200.  
  201. The Preprocess image option will cause Galleria/CM to use special rendering 
  202. techniques to generate high quality output on most monochrome and color 
  203. printers. This process may use large amounts of memory and elongate printing 
  204. times. This can be minimized by either decreasing the output size or selecting 
  205. a lower dpi setting (with Setup below). 
  206.  
  207. The Print to scale option will print the captured image at the same scale as 
  208. shown on the screen. Exact sizing will depend on display and driver but 
  209. individual print proportions will be a constant. If the scaled image exceeds 
  210. the page size (with border) it will be reduced to fit.

  212. Press Setup to change the driver settings for the currently selected Queue. 
  213. These settings will be retained until a different Queue is selected.

  215. Press OK to accept these changes or Cancel to ignore changes and return to main 
  216. options dialog with original settings.

  221. The License details dialog is displayed the first time you start Galleria/CM. 
  222. You must enter both your license name and number at this time. 
  223.  
  224. Enter your license name exactly as specified. You may use upper or lower case 
  225. but the name must match that supplied when the software was licensed.

  227. Enter your license number exactly as specified. All 16 digits must be entered. 
  228. The license number must correspond to the name above. 
  229.  
  230. Press OK to validate the license information and start the application or 
  231. Cancel to terminate.

  236. The License agreement dialog is displayed after you complete your license 
  237. details to display the text of the agreement for use of this software.

  239. You must read all of the agreement conditions and then press OK to complete the 
  240. licensing process. Press Cancel to abort.

  245. The Setup will appear when Galleria/CM is started only if the name of the 
  246. Desktop application has been changed from the default.

  248. Select the current name from the list given. The name may be OS/2 Desktop, OS/2 
  249. 2.0 Desktop or something similar.

  251. Press OK to accept the selected entry.
