  27. Checking your package
  28.  
  29. Before you install Word Pro, take time now to check the disks
  30. and documentation in your Word Pro for Windows package. If your
  31. package is not complete, refer to "Missing or Defective
  32. Components" in the Lotus Customer Support Guide.

  35.  
  36. If your Word Pro package is a retail package, it should contain
  37. one set of 3.5" high-density disks. If your Word Pro package is
  38. a Node Edition, it does not contain any disks. If your computer
  39. requires a CD-ROM, Lotus will provide you with a CD-ROM version
  40. at no charge. For information, refer to "Media Exchange" in the
  41. Lotus Customer Support Guide.

  53.  
  54. This section describes the hardware, system software, memory,
  55. and disk space requirements for using Word Pro on a stand-alone
  56. computer or on a network.

  58. Hardware
  59.  
  60. Word Pro requires the following hardware:
  61.  
  62. *  An 80486 or higher computer certified for use with Microsoft«
  63.    Windows Version 3.1
  64.  
  65. *  A VGA or super VGA graphics card compatible with Microsoft
  66.    Windows Version 3.1
  67.  
  68. *  A Microsoft Windows-compatible mouse, recommended but not
  69.    required
  70.  
  71. *  One 1.44MB 3.5" disk drive
  72.  
  73. System software
  74.  
  75. You must have Microsoft Windows Version 3.1 or higher and DOS
  76. Version 3.1 or higher installed on your computer to use Word Pro.

  78. Memory
  79.  
  80. Word Pro requires a minimum of 8MB of RAM.
  81.  
  82. Disk space
  83.  
  84. Word Pro requires a minimum of 15MB of available hard disk
  85. space. Depending upon the options you choose to install, you may
  86. need up to 35MB of available hard disk space. You will also need
  87. at least an additional 10MB for the temporary files Word Pro
  88. creates.

  90. Installing Word Pro
  91.  
  92. The Install program transfers the Word Pro application files to
  93. your hard disk or to the network server. All stand-alone and
  94. network installation information is available online:
  95.  
  96. You can access the information by choosing the Help command
  97. button or by pressing F1 in the dialog boxes.
  98.  
  99. You can print any Help topic by choosing File/Print Topic when
  100. the topic is displayed in the Help window.
  101.  
  102. You can close the Help window and return to the dialog box by
  103. choosing File/Exit or pressing ESC.
  104.  
  105. Tip:  If you display the Installation Help Contents topic, you
  106. can view a list of all the Help topics. You can then choose the
  107. topics you want to display and print.
  108.  
  109. You can read or print all the online information before you
  110. actually install Word Pro. Start the installation, choose the
  111. Help command button the first time it appears, display and print
  112. the desired Help topics, and then exit the Help window. You can
  113. now proceed with the installation or exit the Install program by
  114. choosing the Exit Install command button.

  116. Deciding on the type of installation
  117.  
  118. The complete installation of Word Pro with all features, text,
  119. and graphic filters, and online help requires 35MB of disk
  120. space. Since most users do not need all features, Word Pro
  121. offers several options for installation.
  122.  
  123. All Features - Automatic Install
  124.  
  125. This option installs all features needed to run Word Pro.
  126.  
  127. Minimum Features - Automatic Install
  128.  
  129. This option installs the minimum feature set necessary to run
  130. Word Pro. It is designed for users with minimum disk space. The
  131. following Word Pro components are not installed using this
  132. option:
  133.  
  134.   Lotus dialog editor
  135.   Drawing
  136.   Charting
  137.   Equation editor
  138.   The Lotus Expert
  139.   Online help
  140.   Database filters
  141.   Graphic filters
  142.   Spreadsheet filters
  143.   Most word processing filters
  144.   Grammar checking
  145.   Thesaurus
  146.  
  147. Customize Features - Manual Install
  148.  
  149. This option lets you choose the specific Word Pro functions and
  150. filters you would like to install. You can also use this option
  151. after you install Word Pro for the first time to add more
  152. features. An explanation of each feature is displayed in the
  153. installation dialog box when you select it.
  154.

  156. To install over a prior release of Word Pro
  157.  
  158. If you previously installed a Beta or Visionary release of
  159. Word Pro, Lotus suggests that you delete the contents of
  160. your existing \WORDPRO directory before installing this
  161. version. 
  162.  
  163. IMPORTANT:  Before deleting the contents of the \WORDPRO 
  164. directory, make sure you have made any backup copies of
  165. documents you wish to keep.
  166.  
  167. If you created custom SmartFill lists or custom SmartCorrect
  168. word lists in a Beta or Visionary release, you may wish 
  169. to combine the lists you created with the default lists 
  170. provided with WordPro.  The lists provided with Word Pro 
  171. have changed from those in prerelease versions. 
  172.  
  173. SmartFill lists are stored in the file LTSFILLS.INI 
  174. in your LOTUSAPP directory.  SmartCorrect lists are stored 
  175. in the file LTSCORRT.INI in your LOTUSAPP directory.  
  176. If the installation program finds these files in the
  177. LOTUSAPP directory, it renames them to LTSFILLS.BAK 
  178. and LTSCORRT.BAK, respectively, and copies in the default 
  179. versions.  Once installation is complete, you can manually 
  180. combine the files you created with those that Lotus 
  181. provides.

  184. To install over a prior release of Ami Pro
  185.  
  186. By default, Word Pro installs into a \WORDPRO directory. It will
  187. not overwrite any Ami Pro program files. To make editing of your
  188. existing Ami Pro files easier, Lotus suggests that you use
  189. Windows File Manager or DOS to copy all the style sheets in your
  190. \AMIPRO\STYLES directory to the \WORDPRO\SMASTERS directory once
  191. you complete the installation.  You may also wish to copy 
  192. the contents of your \AMIPRO\DRAWSYM directory to your 
  193. \WORDPRO\DRAWSYM directory if you want to use the clip art
  194. provided with Ami Pro in Word Pro.

  197. To start the installation
  198.  
  199. The instructions assume that you are starting the Install
  200. program from drive A. If you start from another drive,
  201. substitute the letter of that drive. To install on a network,
  202. log in as the network supervisor before you begin.
  203.  
  204. 1.  Insert Install Disk 1 in drive A.
  205.  
  206. 2.  Start Windows and open the Program Manager.
  207.  
  208. 3.  Choose File/Run.
  209.  
  210. 4.  Type A:INSTALL and choose OK.
  211.  
  212. 5.  Specify the desired options in the dialog boxes:
  213.  
  214.     Whether you want to install Word Pro on a stand-alone computer
  215.     or a file server
  216.  
  217.     The type of installation you want to perform--All features -
  218.     Automatic install, Minimum features - Automatic install, or
  219.     Customize features - Manual install
  220.  
  221.     The drive and directory where you want to install Word Pro
  222.  
  223. Tip:  For information about the types of installation, choose
  224. the Help command button in the Install Choices dialog box.
  225.  
  226. Using SHARE.EXE with Windows 3.1
  227.  
  228. If you are using Windows 3.1, Lotus recommends that you modify 
  229. your AUTOXEC.BAT file to install SHARE.EXE when you start
  230. your computer. The SHARE.EXE command provides support for
  231. file locking on networks, and for using OLE 2. The installation
  232. program does not automatically install SHARE.EXE.
  233.  
  234. To modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
  235.  
  236. 1.  From Windows Program Manager choose File - Run, 
  237.     type notepad c:\autoexec.bat, and choose OK.
  238.  
  239. 2.  Look at the file, and determine if there is a line
  240.     in the file which loads SHARE.EXE.  It will probably 
  241.     look something like "C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE"
  242.  
  243. 3.  If you do not have a line which already loads SHARE.EXE, 
  244.     add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  245.     
  246.     C:\DOS\SHARE /L:500 /F:5100
  247.  
  248.     The line should be added after your PATH statement,
  249.     but before any command which loads Windows.  If DOS is in
  250.     a location other than C:\DOS, modify the path to point to 
  251.     the location where SHARE is located on your computer.
  252.  
  253. 4.  If you already has a line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file which 
  254.     loads share, make sure that it has a /L and a /F parameter 
  255.     as part of the statement. If the numbers following the 
  256.     parameters are greater than or equal to those in the line 
  257.     above, you do not need to do anything.  If they are smaller, 
  258.     or if they do not exist, modify the line to reflect the above values.

  260. 5.  Choose File - Exit, then choose Yes to save your changes.

  262. 6.  Exit Windows, then restart your computer to begin using SHARE.EXE.

  265. To install on a network
  266.  
  267. Complete information about installing Word Pro on a network is
  268. available in both the READNET.TXT file located on Install Disk 1
  269. and in the Installation Help.

  271. Log in as the network supervisor, choose Install Word Pro as
  272. server, and specify the network drive and directory where you
  273. want to install Word Pro. You should also specify the number of
  274. Word Pro licenses.
  275.  
  276. When the network server installation is complete, you should use
  277. the INSTALL.EXE file (located in the Word Pro directory) to
  278. automate the process of setting up user nodes. Simply run the
  279. INSTALL.EXE program from each workstation.
