  23. RemoveR helps you to prevent unused junk from filling your hard drive.

  28. One day I ended up with a 180Mb Windows directory - I didn't know where
  29. the files came from, nor which of them were still used. I decided to
  30. start from scratch, reinstall windows & write a utility to help keep
  31. an eye on these sneaky programs that dump stuff all around my drives.

  36. Fed up with trying various shareware packages from CDs or the Net and
  37. having them spew files all over your drives ? If you are RemoveR is for
  38. you.
  39.  
  40. Sadly not all programs come with uninstall utilities (and those that
  41. do often miss files). To get around this I developed RemoveR.
  42.  
  43. Simply scan the hard drive of your choice before installing a piece of
  44. software, RemoveR will take a snapshot of your files and save it.
  45. You can then install your software, decide its not for you, then rerun
  46. RemoveR to tell you whats been changed on your harddrive. Once the
  47. changes are listed you can chose to delete files, or to save the list
  48. so that you can uninstall the program at a later date.

  50. Main Buttons & What They Do

  53. Drive Selector : This selects what drive RemoveR will scan.
  54.  
  55. Update Scan Database : This will take a snapshot of the drive selected
  56.  in the drive selection box
  57.  
  58. Find Changes : This will compare the current status of your files with
  59.  that last stored. All files that have been added/deleted will be shown
  60.  on the results screen. From this screen you can highlight certain
  61.  files & directories and delete them, or save the list for later
  62.  deletion.

  64. Uninstall Using Saved Data File : Takes a previously saved list of
  65.  files (saved from the results screen) and allows you to select some
  66.  or all of them for deletion.

  68. Preferences : Allows you to specify directories that you wish to ignore
  69.  such as C:\TEMP or the MS Explorer cache directory etc ... Also allows
  70.  you to set a preference so that RemoveR will only monitor your
  71.  WINDOWS directory (and all sub-directories beneath). This leads to a
  72.  huge speed gain if this is all you are interested in.

  74. The preferences screen also allows you to change the language RemoveR
  75. operates in.

  78. Other things to know
  79. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  81. * (Win3.1x ONLY) RemoveR will ignore files in hidden directories (but
  82.    will find hidden files in non-hidden directories).
  83.   (Win95) RemoveR finds all hidden files.
  84.  
  85. * If you try to delete a directory from the results screen it will
  86.    produce an alert if the directory is not empty. Often, if you are
  87.    deleting all of the files within the directory, reclicking delete
  88.    will delete it sucessfully.

  90. Windows95/NT(3.51+) users, run RmvR32.exe
  91. Windows3.x users, run RmvR16.exe
  92.  
  93. (If you have both the 16 Bit and 32 Bit versions of RemoveR then stick
  94. to one version, they each store their database in a different
  95. format - using one to make it and one to read it is ASKING for trouble)

  108. This is a list of features I plan to incorporate into RemoveR. They are
  109. listed in no particular order.

  111. Some will take longer than others to do ...
  112.  
  113. * Ability to scan hidden directories in Win3.1x (could be v hard)
  114. * Monitor changes to system.ini, win.ini, autoexec.bat and config.sys
  115. * Scan for updated files as well as added/deleted files (coming soon)
  116. * Adapt the application for other languages. If you feel you would like
  117.   to translate the text used in RemoveR into your native language then
  118.   please contact me .... I will of course provide you with a mention, 
  119.   and registration code for your trouble
  120.  
  121. Please don't contact me about translating RemoveR into German. Due to
  122. licencing restrictions RemoveR cannot be distributed as Shareware in
  123. the German language.

  125. If YOU have any suggestions as to how I could make RemoveR that little
  126. bit better, then please mail me. A huge number of the features included
  127. since version 1.0 have been from user suggestions. Ta !

  132. I really have worked hard on this program, and I reckon it offers more
  133. than a number of commercial packages that claim to be Uninstallers or
  134. Removers (plus they can cost ú30/ú50 .... this is a mere ú5/$10).
