Unlike as in earlier releases of Graphic Workshop, your registration code will not be displayed in Setup after you have registered.\n\nMake sure you keep a printed copy of your registration e-mail confirmation or the receipt for this software somewhere safe -- you'll need them if you have to reinstall Graphic Workshop Professional.
You can't convert directly from JPEG to GIF because JPEG graphics suppprt more colours than GIF files.\n\nUse the Effects function of Graphic Workshop to do this conversion. Select Colour Reduction to a 256-colour qunatized palette.
Hold down the Shift key and click on the Tag all or Clear All buttons to tag and clear with file name wild cards.
The JPEG format causes a degree of cumulative image degradation each time you read and write a JPEG image.\n\nTo preserve the quality of your graphics, use a non-lossy format like PNG to store images, and only write your pictures to JPEG when you require highly compressed graphic files.

The Scale function of Graphic Workshop is perfect for creating web page thumbnails. Select By Size and Maintain Aspect Ratio. Use small target dimensions -- 128 by 128 is a good choice.
The Clpbrd item of the Graphic Workshop file destination dialog is the Windows clipboard.\n\nIf you choose this as a destination format, the image that would normally have been written to a graphic file will be copied directly to the Windows clipboard, ready to paste into another application.
You can copy files between browser windows in Graphic Workshop by dragging them.\n\nSelect the files you wish to copy, click and hold on one of them and drag them to the browser window that's looking at your target directory.

The Transform function of Graphic Workshop allows for rotaion in increments of 90 degrees. To rotate in increments of as little as one degree, open your graphic in View mode, select Filters from the Picture menu and choose the Transform option. Don't forget to set the background colour.
If you'd like to have your collection of graphics printed out with multiple images per page -- something along the lines of a photographic contact sheet -- investigate the GrafCat function of Graphic Workshop.
Hold down the Shift key and click on the View button to go directly to the Slideshow function.
The file delete function can optionally send deleted files to the Windows Recycle Bin. Check the recycle bin frequently if you enable this function -- graphics are often very large files, and can occupy a lot of space while they wait for you to empty the trash.

Right-click in the file list of a browser window to access the Image menu without moving up to the menu bar. Right click in the directory tree to access the recent directory list.
The Add Thumbnails Where Required item of the Thumbnail menu will add thumbnails to graphics which don't currently have them, but ignore any files that do.\n\nUse this feature to quickly update a directory of files -- just tag all and select Add Thumbnails Where Required.
If you're connected to a network, you might find that each browser window the Graphic Workshop keeps open takes a while to build its directory window.\n\nTurn off the Include Remote Drives in Browser option in the Setup dialog to restrict the directory tree to local drives only. You can still access network drives through the Folder button or Change Directories in the File menu.
If you don't like the default View mode background colour, change it.\n\nThe Display tab in the Setup dialog includes a colour button to select a new View mode background colour.
Many of the batch processes available under Graphic Workshop prepend a letter and an underbar to the names of new files to prevent them from colliding with your source graphic files.\n\nYou can disable this feature by switching off File Name Underbars in the Files tab f the Setup dialog.

Graphic Workshop offers a variety of options to add comment blocks to files which support them. You can be prompted to enter text, have text entered automatically for all files or have specific comment text added for each file name. Need to match one or more graphics to the palette of an existing graphic file? Use the remap feature of the Effects function and use the Select button to retrieve the palette from the file to be matched to.
The Acquire function is intended to acquire images from scanners, but it will drive any device with a fully-compliant TWAIN interface. This includes most digital cameras.

Progressive JPEG files are useful in web browsers, but most other applications which import JPEG files can't read them. Make sure the Write Progress JPEG switch in Setup is off unless you're sure you need progressive JPEG files.
Kodak Photo-CDs contain multiple resolutions of each stored image. If you need a higher- or lower-resolution image that the one which is initially read from a Photo-CD files, open the Graphic Workshop Professional Setup dialog and select a different Photo-CD Options setting.
If you're creating a word processing document or desktop publishing project which will be output to a black and white device, use the Graphic Workshop effects function to convert your images to grey scale.\n\nDoing so will result in smaller final document files and faster output.
If you want to create captions with text from a file, rather than from the edit field in the Caption dialog, enter an @ sign followed by the path to a text file in the Caption dialog.
If you convert animation from another format to AVI, keep in mind that AVI files, like JPEG files, achieve better compression by allowing a degree of image degradation. This value can be set as the AVI quality factor in the Graphic Workshop Setup dialog -- increase it to create more attractive AVI files.
While Windows WAV audio files and MIDI sequenced music files aren't really graphics, you can still browse them with Graphic Workshop. If you attempt to View one, you'll see a canned thumbnail image and the file's audio will play.\n\nLook in \WINDOWS\MEDIA for some example WAV audio files.
Graphic Workshop can convert images to BMP and automatically set them up as Windows wallpaper. Just select Wallppr as the destination format when you convert or otherwise process an image.
Some downloaded graphic files with the extension JPG are really Johnson-Grace ART files.\n\nIf you have trouble reading downloaded images as JPEG images, try renaming them to have the extension ART.
If you hold down the Shift key and click on the Thumbnail button, thumbnails will be added to all the selected files in your current browser window.\n\nThis is equivalent to selecting Add Thumbnails from the Thumbnail menu.
