The true strength of Dr. Hardware for Windows
=============================================
Dr. Hardware for Windows combines the low-level-access of the classic Dos version
with the system relevant information required by today┤s Windows user.
In spite of it┤s power it is very compact and fast - you certainly will find it to
be a true power tool - flexible and uncomplicated.
Dr. Hardware runs under Windows 3.1x and WINDOWS 95/Windows 98, but it┤s optimized
for Windows 95/98.
System requirements
===================
386, 2 MB RAM, WINDOWS 3.1x Enhanced Mode or Windows 95/Windows 98, about 1,8 MB
free space on your harddisk.
Close all open DOS applications and other background tasks before running the
program. In order to get the best viewing results switch to a resolution of
800 x 600 with 256 colors or better and small system font.
The shareware concept
=====================
Dr.Hardware is distributed as shareware. Your advantage: you can first
evaluate the program and only if you find it usefull you will have to pay for it.
Don't pay money for the shareware version besides the copy charge.
You will find the latest shareware version in the Internet, but also at CompuServe.
- via CompuServe: GO WINUTIL, section "Diagnostic"
- on our homepage http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PGSOFT
- FTP: On SimTel Software Repository mirrors
oak.oakland.edu/pub/simtelnet/msdos/sysinfo/drhw20e.zip
ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/sysinfo/drhw20e.zip
- you may also find it on various shareware cd collections
After the evaluation period of 14 days please register your version. You will
receive a virtual key to register the shareware version and to unlock all
reserved features.
Registered version - advantages
===============================
These are the benefits of the registration:
- registered version can be used eternally
- 1 year gratis updating with your registration key
- additional program features:
1.Benchmark comparision (your PC is measured and compared with other machines.
Very useful feature.)
2.SCSI benchmark
3.Chipset details (for example on Intel PCI chipsets)
- no more shareware nag screens
How to order the registered version
====================================
- Probably the most convenient way is to pay by credit card. Please note that
you can┤t pay by credit card at Gebhard Software - please go to our homepage where
links will lead you to sites where credit cards are accepted.
- Otherwise you can pay by check or money order. From inside the program: Press
F2 key for an order form that can be filled out immediately on the screen.
From outside the program: See ORDER.DOC
Important!
We only send keys, no disks.
ONE piece for ONE pc
====================
If you buy one piece of Dr. Hardware you'll get a licencse to use it on exactly
one PC. For each other PC you have to register another version.
Startup mode
============
On the first program screen you will see some buttons that allow you to take
influence on the following program initialization and program comfort.
Quick Start:
The mainly important data about your PC are collected at start.
Comfort start:
expanded data collection at start; advantage: in the menu, while generating
reports or during compact analysis superluous analysis steps are avoided. The
risk of a crash at start is the greatest in this start mode but also the
following user comfort.
No test at start:
no data are collected at start. The risk of a crash is mimimized. No PC data are
shown in the overview window
Step by Step":
like comfort start, however each analysis step has to be confirmed.
This allows you to exclude a problematic analysis from the usual startup procedure.
Program Setup
=============
You can take influence on the program behaviour and optics by doing entries in
the configuration file DRHARD.INI. In order to do this you need an ASCII editor.
Almost all settings can be configured from inside the program too.
Guarantee
=========
Note: The complete license agreement can be found in the file LICENSE.DOC.

for any purpose. Also the author takes no responsibility for damage resulting
directly or indirectly from use of the program or its documentation.
By using this program, the user accepts these conditions of license and the ones
that are fixed in the file LICENSE.TXT.
Tip
===
It's recommended that you backup all important data before running this program.
Be careful especially in an active network environment. You also should make a
copy of your original disk.
DOS version stays up to date
============================
The famous DOS version will be developped in conjunction with the Windows version.
Especially technicians need the dos version for going to the ground of their
machines. Furthermore a few analysis options only appear in the DOS version
(EISA slot analysis, Cache test on PCs without known PCI chipsets, VGA
retrace testing). DDC and DMI analysis are sometimes more reliable under DOS.
