  70. This package contains Infodex Pro (TM) by Stevenson Technical Services,
  71. Inc. (STSI).  This document contains only a brief description of the
  72. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  73. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  74. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.
  75.  
  76. Infodex Pro is a versatile database manager used to keep track of names
  77. and addresses, equipment, computer software, books, and much more!
  78. Includes a FREE-FORM layout.  Add, delete, or rearrange fields EASILY!
  79. Search for text in any field.  Import and export to a delimited text
  80. file. Quickly browse through a list of records.  Easy push button
  81. interface w/mouse support!

  83. Infodex Pro is a shareware program. You may use it for up to 2 weeks,
  84. without charge (see INFOPRO.TXT for more details).  If you like the
  85. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  86. are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.DOC for more details).
  87. Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to
  88. obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their copying and
  89. distribution services, rather than a payment for continued use of the

  105. ===== Installation =====================================
  106.  
  107. The installation procedure for Infodex is quite simple.  The
  108. package includes a program (usually setup.exe or ipro3xx.exe)
  109. which automates the entire process.  You will need about 6
  110. megabytes of available disk space on the hard drive on which
  111. you plan to install Infodex.
  112.  
  113. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you
  114. received Infodex.
  115.  
  116.  
  117. Installing From CD-ROM
  118.  
  119. To install from CD-ROM, you need to perform the following
  120. steps.
  121.  
  122. 1. Insert the Infodex CD-ROM into your computer system's CD-
  123. ROM drive.
  124.  
  125. 2. Windows 95, 98, or NT will automatically launch the CD-ROM
  126. setup program, where you can choose to install Infodex Pro.
  127.  
  128. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the setup program. You
  129. will have a chance to approve the installation before any
  130. changes are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.
  131. The program will ask you for a destination directory, and will
  132. copy the Infodex files to that directory.

  135. Installing From Diskettes
  136.  
  137. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following
  138. steps.
  139.  
  140. 1. Place Infodex distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  141. appropriate diskette drive.
  142.  
  143. 2. From Program Manager, select Run. Execute the "SETUP.EXE"
  144. program on the distribution diskette. For example, if the
  145. distribution diskette is on drive A:, type the command,
  146. "a:setup".
  147.  
  148. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the setup program. You
  149. will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  150. are actually made to the contents of your hard drive. The
  151. program will ask you for a destination directory, and will
  152. copy the Infodex files to that directory.

  156. Installing From A Hard Drive (in EXE format)
  157.  
  158. If you downloaded Infodex from the internet in EXE format (the
  159. filename will typically be called ipro3xx.exe), you will need
  160. to perform the following steps.

  163. 1.  From the Windows 95, 98, or NT Start menu, select Run.
  164. Either type in the full path and filename of the file that you
  165. downloaded, or use the Browse button to search for it on your
  166. hard drive.  When you have selected it, click on Ok to run it.
  167.  
  168. 2. Follow the instructions presented by the setup program. You
  169. will have a chance to approve the installation before any
  170. changes are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.
  171. The program will ask you for a destination directory, and will
  172. copy the Infodex files to that directory.

  175. Installing From A Hard Drive (in PKZip / WinZip format)
  176.  
  177. If you downloaded Infodex from the internet (or received it in
  178. the form of archive files from some other source), you will
  179. need to perform the following steps.
  180.  
  181. 1. Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  182. directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  183. varies, depending on the form in which you received the
  184. package. In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this
  185. text means that you already have the necessary tools and
  186. knowledge to perform this step.  If not, you should be able to
  187. obtain directions for this from the same source from which you
  188. received the package.
  189.  
  190. 2. From Program Manager, select Run.  Execute the "SETUP.EXE"
  191. program which you have extracted.  For example, if the
  192. temporary directory into which you have extracted the files is
  193. C:\TEMPDIR, you would type the command, "c:\tempdir\setup".

  195. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the installation
  196. program. You will have a chance to approve installation before
  197. any changes are actually made to the contents of your hard
  198. drive.  The installation program will ask you for a
  199. destination directory, and will copy the program files to that
  200. directory.

  202. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful,
  203. you should delete the temporary directory FROM which you
  204. installed the program, (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion),
  205. including all its contents.

  208. If you are upgrading from Infodex For DOS or Infodex For
  209. Windows v1.xx, you will want to install Infodex Pro into a NEW
  210. directory, and copy your existing database files into the new
  211. directory.  Databases cannot be shared between the DOS and
  212. Windows versions of Infodex.  Once you open a database with
  213. Infodex Pro, it can no longer be used by Infodex For DOS.
