  1.                          F-PROT introduction
  2.  
  3. The F-PROT anti-virus package consists of the following files:
  4.  
  5.         F-PROT.EXE    The main program (DOS version).
  6.         SIGN.DEF      DOS/Windows virus search/disinfection data.
  7.         MACRO.DEF     Word/Excel virus search/disinfection data.
  8.         ENGLISH.TX0   An English message file.
  9.         SETUPFS.EXE   A self-installing version of the F-STOPW VXD
  10.                       for Windows '95 users.  This is a "resident" scanner
  11.                       which will check files before they are accessed or
  12.                       executed.  When SETUPFS is installed it will create
  13.                       documentation files, describing the use of F-STOPW.
  14.         SETUPFM.EXE   A self-installing version of the F-MACROW
  15.                       Word/Excel virus scanner for Windows users.  When
  16.                       it is installed it will create documentation files,
  17.                       describing its use.
  18.         *.TXT         Some documentation files, including this one.
  19.         *.ASC         PGP signature files.
  20.  
  21. If you are running any version of Windows, you can use both the F-PROT and
  22. F-MACROW programs.  Please note that for the purpose of detecting and
  23. removing Word/Excel viruses, the F-PROT and F-MACROW programs are equally
  24. good - the difference is that F-PROT is a DOS application, which also
  25. detects other viruses, while F-MACROW is a Windows application that *only*
  26. detects Word and Excel viruses.

  28. If you are running Windows '95, you can also use the F-STOPW program.
  29. Unlike F-PROT, this program is continually active, scanning files before
  30. they are executed.

  32. If you are running DOS, OS/2 or any other non-Windows operating system,
  33. you can only use the F-PROT program (provided the OS allows you to run
  34. DOS applications, that is).

  36.                         Running F-PROT
  37.  
  38. If the F-PROT program is run in interactive mode, you get a screen which 
  39. shows the available functions.  You can use the arrow keys to move around
  40. the screen, and press <ENTER> when you wnat to select an action.

  45.                         Quit

  47. When [Scan] is selected, you get a menu where you can specify where to
  48. search for viruses, and what to do when a virus is found.  See the file
  49. SCAN.TXT for further information.
  50.  
  51. When [Options] is selected, you get a menu where you can enable or disable
  52. various options.  To change an option, move the red line over it, using
  53. the arrow keys and press <ENTER>.

  55. When [Information] is selected you get a list of several subjects you can
  56. select to get more detailed information about the program.
  57.  
  58. Finally, selecting [Quit] will terminate the program.
