The Stretch Detail effect improves midtone detail. The whitest white in the image usually becomes 100% white and the blackest black in the image becomes 100% black. This effect essentially 'throws out' highlights and shadows. You can adjust the amount that is 'thrown out' by dragging the Sacrifice Highlights and Sacrifice Shadows sliders.
