  48. 1.1  Upgrading DeskTop While DeskTop is running.

  50. Installing DeskTop whilst DeskTop is running may cause the installation 
  51. process to fail.  To overcome this close DeskTop before upgrading.
  52. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  53. 1.2  Installing DeskTop over a previous version.
  54.  
  55. 1.2.1   It is possible to install this version of DeskTop over the previous 
  56. versions 3.7.0, 4.0, 4.01, 4.2x and 5.x The configuration files including 
  57. WMGR.RC will be left intact and the MVIEW.INI will be upgraded.
  58.  
  59. 1.2.2   It is also possible to install this version of DeskTop over the
  60. DeskTop element of the previous version of MultiView/X, version 2.02, 4.x 
  61. and 5.x.
  62.  
  63. 1.2.3   It is not possible to install this version of DeskTop over versions
  64. prior to 3.7.0. Any old configurations will need re-configuring when the new
  65. version is installed.

  67. 1.3  Removing DeskTop.
  68.  
  69. There are two locations where DeskTop files are kept, the installation 
  70. directory (usually C:\MVW) and the Windows directory (usually C:\WINDOWS).
  71.  
  72. The relevant files in both locations will have to be deleted.
  73.  
  74. DeskTop directory:
  75.  
  76. The contents of this directory and any sub-directories below it must be 
  77. deleted.
  78.  
  79. Windows directory:
  80.  
  81. The files below may exist in the windows directory and need to be 
  82. deleted:
  83.  
  84.     MVIEW.INI
  85.     BUTTONS.INI 
  86.     VSL.INI
  87.     JSBRPRNT.INI 
  88.     MSOCKLIB.DLL
  89.     MWINSOCK.DLL 
  90.     MVWLPD.INI
  91.  
  92. NB. Removal of these files should be carried out without Windows running.
  93.  
  94. Additionally, remove any DeskTop setting in your C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  95.  
  96. If you are running DeskTop on Windows 95 or NT4W, additional LPR files 
  97. will need to be removed
  98.  
  99. LPR Uninstall for Windows 95 and NT4 - From DeskTop 5.04
  100.  
  101. There is now an option to un-install the 32bit DeskTop LPR system on 
  102. Windows 95 and NT4. Please select Add/Remove Programs from the Windows 
  103. Control Panel and select Remove "JSB LPR Port Monitor". Shared
  104. files may be in use you may be asked to restart your system.
  105.  
  106. LPR Uninstall for Windows 95 and NT4 - Prior to DeskTop 5.04
  107.  
  108. The following additional DLL's will be located in your Windows System 
  109. directory, usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.
  110.  
  111. Prior to DeskTop 5.02
  112.  
  113.     MVPMON.DLL
  114.     MVLPR.DLL
  115.  
  116. From DeskTop 5.02

  122. These are shared files used in conjuction with the Windows 95 and NT4W 
  123. printing system. In order to delete the DLL's you may need to action this in 
  124. Command  Mode, i.e. DOS.

  127. 1.4  Upgrading Windows 3 to Windows 95 or NT4W When DeskTop is installed 
  128.  
  129. Because of changes made to the LPR/LPD component of DeskTop 5.00 running
  130. under Windows 95 or NT4W, if an upgrade from Windows 3 to Windows 95 or
  131. NT4W is made the LPR/LPD components will be incorrect. To install the 32bit 
  132. components edit MVIEW.INI and change the line
  133.  
  134.     MDTVersion=5.05
  135. to
  136.     MDTVersion=5.04
  137.  
  138. Insert your DeskTop 5.05 media and run setup. Once the installation is
  139. complete the LPR/LPD will have been updated to run the 32bit support.

  141. 1.5  Choosing your Network Support

  143. During setup you will be asked for the type of Network you will be running.
  144.  
  145. For Windows users using the supplied "Cisco Suite 100 TCP/IP" select 
  146. "Winsock TCP/IP 1.1".

  148. For Windows  95 and NT4W  users who are running Windows TCP/IP support 
  149. "Winsock TCP/IP 1.1" should also be selected.

  178. 3.1.1 If an application sends an escape sequence to reverse the screen
  179. color, the status line is also reversed.

  189. In certain specific circumstances, using File Transfer may result in an
  190. Application Error in program MPREXE.  This is known to happen when using
  191. Microsoft network support for TCPIP, Novell Netware IPX/SPX, and when 
  192. connecting to a Netware 3.1x server.

  196. When loading the LPD daemon over the Novell LWP TCP/IP, the following error
  197. may be seen :- "Communications Initialisation Error". This is usually
  198. because a file NOVASYNC.EXE is not installed. Expand this file from the
  199. Novell LWP disks into the DeskTop directory (usually c:\mvw).

  218. This only applies when DeskTop has been installed on Windows 95 or Windows

  240. previous versions of DeskTop as follows:

  249. 5.3 Cisco TCP/IP hosts file
  250.  
  251. During the installation of the supplied Cisco TCP/IP stack a hosts file is 
  252. generated containing local host information. This information is required
  253. when programs such as FTP and X request the name of the local host. If the
  254. message "Cannot find localhost entry in host file." is displayed then
  255. the hosts entry for your local PC may be incomplete. Here's an example of
  256. a typical hosts file:

  279. DeskTop 5 now incorporates a robust, high performance Windows based TCP/IP 
  280. stack, that is implemented as a 32-bit Virtual Device Driver (VxD). Unlike
  281. traditional TCP/IP stacks, the new Cisco TCP/IP does not require any DOS based
  282. TSR programs for operation and as a result improves performance by freeing 
  283. conventional DOS memory. In addition, the new VxD TCP/IP stack supports
  284. BOOTP and DHCP offering dynamic configuration for IP addresses.

  286. 6.2 Variable timeout for learnt login scripts
  287.  
  288. It is now possible to configure the default timeout setting used during the 
  289. learn process of .CMD files. Create a line within the [MultiView] section of 
  290. MVIEW.INI called,
  291.  
  292.     DefaultLearnTimeout=30
  293.  
  294. where 30 is the number of seconds you would like the connection to wait for
  295. a response from the remote system.
  296.  
  297. If no setting is specified a default of 20 will be used.

  301. The ESC 4 sequence used by Wyse60 is now supported. The sequence is used by 
  302. some applications in conjuction with Page Memory.

  338. Using DDE link under Windows 95 intermittanly failed in DeskTop 4.2x this 
  339. has been fixed in DeskTop 5.

  343. If a serial connection is open and DeskTop was restarted with a snapshot 
  344. that would also attempt to make a connection over the serial line, DeskTop
  345. would cause the PC to hang. This has now been resolved.

  372. connect to bsj10.

  384. It is now posible to configure the Right-Click-Mouse-Cursor-Motion. RIGHT

  386. sequences.

  453. DeskTop 5.02 didn't include HSS support for the Windows 95 and Windows NT4W 
  454. printing system, this has now been implemented.
