WHATSNEW.TXT
============
Here is a list of the new features of WinBiff 3.9a:
o InstallShield installation added, which allows convenient
uninstall
o Stay on top option added
o Window caption indicates polling
o Icon optionally blinks during polling. In Windows 3.1
and Windows NT 3.51, it is actually the icon caption that
blinks.
o Support for custom POP3 and IMAP4 ports added
o For Notes, if bad records are encountered, WinBiff
now continues to poll, instead of aborting.
o Web, email, and ordinary mail addresses for contacting author
updated in documentation
Version 3.9:
o You can now specify a start directory for the mail
reader.
o Notes 3.x mailboxes are again supported, using the
Received by Category view by default. Other views
can be specified.
o In the 32-bit version, mouse-clicking on the colored
icon and text areas in the Color tab now properly
adjusts the color scrollbars.
o The appearance of the mail reader and network pages in
the setup has been cleaned up in the 16-bit version.
Version 3.8a:
o A new option, Detect running reader, detects the mail
reader even if you haven't launched it from WinBiff.
This option is especially useful in conjunction with
the Suspend polling option. It also prevents accidentally
launching a second instance of your reader by clicking
on WinBiff.
Version 3.8:
o The Notes support has been completely rewritten to use
the C API, instead of VIM. Setup for Notes should be
much easier, and mail polling more reliable. Error messages
that occur during polling can be suppressed.
o For Message Sources that require passwords, the password
can be prompted for, rather than storing it in the
.INI file. This option gives enhanced security protection.
o For POP3 and IMAP4, a COM port can be checked before each
poll. Using this option, if you terminate or lose your
modem connection, WinBiff will not display unwanted error
messages.
o For cc:Mail, when VIM errors occur, additional diagnostic
information now appears in the popup error boxes.
o In the 32-bit version, there are now separate default
16x16 icons for display in the system tray. If you use
custom 32x32 icons, those will still be displayed in
compressed form in the system tray.
o WinBiff now includes a utility, KILLWBF.EXE (16-bit) or
KILLWB32 (32-bit), which safely shuts down all running
instances of the program. This utility is useful for
logout scripts. WinBiff now will shut down on receipt of
WM_CLOSE messages, so it should behave properly when
using other shutdown utilities.
o PageUp and PageDown in the header window now scroll a full
page, instead of a single line.
o The bug that complained of a missing profile for Windows
Messaging on initial setup has been fixed.
o The titlebar-only window problem that occasionally occurred
in the 32-bit version has been fixed.
o A bug in the IMAP4 protocol implementation that generated
occasional erroneous error messages has been fixed. Another
IMAP4 bug that sometimes resulted in spurious FETCH messages to
be sent has been fixed.
Version 3.7:
o The Setup has been completely rewritten, using a page metaphor.
Users should find the new setup easier to understand. Also,
this arrangement will make it easier to add new features in the
future.
o Code for the new Setup has been placed in a dynamic library,
WBFSETUP.DLL in the 16-bit version, and WBFSTP32.DLL in the
32-bit version. The library is loaded only when in use.
Moving the code out of the .EXE's means they are about 20%
smaller than before -- the 16-bit version now is only 74K,
and the 32-bit version is only 106K. System administrators
can remove the .DLL's to prevent users from modifying settings.
o In the WAVBase, strings can be used to match either the From
line, the Subject line, or both. Matching now occurs on the
string that is displayed, rather than the raw header, to make
it clear what is being matched.
o An option, "Play WAVs just once", has been added.
o Network timeout options are now adjustable from within the Setup.
o The "Exit" menu item is now optional.
o A new option, "Minimize on reader launch", has been added.
o The desktop color can be selected via a button in the Colors
page/tab in the Setup.
o Alt-F10 is used as an accelerator key for the Clear and Show
menu items.
o Profiles for MS Exchange and Windows Messaging appear in a
dropdown list in the Setup (32-bit version only).
o GroupWise mail is now supported, using Simple MAPI.
