#Spam Sample¼Shows the Spam{{Spam Response}}
#Trace Route Servers¼Sometimes servers are slow or unreliable. If this happens, use this list to try another.{{Spam Response}}
#Anonymous Servers¼Used as part of the process of posting safely, sometimes these servers are slow or unreliable. If this happens, use this list to try another.
Note that Usenet itself is slow and unreliable and that there are many reasons why your posting may not be seen everywhere. In particular, it may take several days to reach your local system.{{Spam Response}}
#Newsgroups¼Enter a list of groups you want to post to. Separate groups with commas and don't use any spaces.
E.G. alt.test,uk.test
#E-Mail Program¼Spam Hater works with a variety of e-mail programs. Find yours here.

#Follow Up¼A "Follow Up" is a reply to an existing post. If someone posts a question in a group, you answer it with a Follow Up and everyone can read it

- Edit your post
- Press the Send Button in Spam Hater
#Overview¼Spam Hater reads the Spam you've received and prepares a
flame in reply
How to use Spam Hater
- View the Spam in Ameol (or other mailer - see below)
- Select a specific mailer with the E-Mail program selector
- Press "Analyse the Spam" (Different procedure for Outlook Express)
- Check the list of addresses carefully for errors
- Click on "Send Response"
Spam Hater opens a new mail form and fills in the address, subject
and message. Send it off in the normal way
There are also facilities for posting to Usenet with an anonymous address to foil address collection software used by spammers.
#Command Line Switch¼If you put /a on the command line that launches Spam Hater
there's no need to push the "Analyse the Spam" button.
#Minimize After Posting¼Check this box to make Spam Hater minimize as soon as it's posted your article.
#Flame Selector¼Select the message you want to send
#Add @abuse.networks.net¼Abuse.networks.net is an experiment in automatically routing complaints to the correct address.
If you check this option then an address such as "spammer.com" will generate additional mail to spammer.com@abuse.networks.net. This may have a better chance of reaching the right person.
#Via Remailer¼(Gold Only)
Sends your complaints via an "anonymous remailer". If they reach the spammer himself, it's harder for him to extract your address and spam you more.
This cannot be used via abuse.networks.net so *un*check under Preferences if you can't see this facility.
#Pause between messages out¼(Gold Only)
Some modes generate several messages. Check this box to have them sent out to your outbox without a pause.
#Special procedure for Outlook Express¼
Before pressing the Analyse button in Spam Hater, you must perform this sequence in Outlook Express:
- Click File and then Properties
- Click the Details tab
- Click the Message Source button

These are useful for some tracking operations - especially with Traceroute
#Prevent DejaNews Archiving¼Another trick for keeping out of the databases. Puts a special header in your News Postings via Spam Hater to prevent archiving.

Using Spam Hater in Ameol
Simply click on the Spam Hater button on the Toolbar.
#Headers Only¼To save bandwidth, it may be better not to send the whole spam back. The message headers are often sufficient. Checking this box will stop the spam body being sent.
#Online¼If you check this box, the Trace Route function will happen immediately provided you have full Internet access. Otherwise, a request is sent by mail.
Note that while this works for most people, if it doesn't work for you, you need local support to resolve it. It's not possible for us to help.
#Use Specified Server¼Normally, Spam Hater chooses a Trace Route server at random. Check this box to allow you to choose a specific one.
#Minimize After Responding¼Tucks Spam Hater out of the way after you have sent the response
#Add spam software supplier¼Some suppliers of spamming software advertise their wares in the headers of the spam produced!
Do you think that these people should see your complaint as well? If, so, check this box and if Spam Hater knows their address, it will add them to the recipients!
#Postmasters Only¼There is a theory that one should not attempt to reply direct to a spammer - just complain in suitable terms to his postmaster.
Check this to restrict addresses appropriately and to access "flames" more suited to postmasters.
