  3. Install Instructions
  4. --------------------

  6. 1) Run FnordCtl.exe
  7.  
  8. 2) Go to the General tab and enter in the directory that you want to 
  9.    put the error messages in.  For example "c:\fnord\error".
  10.  
  11. 3) Go to the General tab and enter in the directory that you want to 
  12.    put working files in.  For example "c:\fnord\temp".
  13.  
  14. 4) Go to the Logs tab and enter in the directory that you want to put 
  15.    the logs in.  For example "c:\fnord\logs".
  16.  
  17. 5) Go to the Path tab and create a new path mapping 
  18.    ("New Path" button.)  Then change the Remote Path to "/" 
  19.    and the Local path to your HTTP root, for example, "c:\fnord\root"
  20.  
  21. 6) Exit fnordctl.exe
  22.  
  23. 7) Run fnord.exe
  24.  
  25. You now should have a working server.  If the program did not start, 
  26. look at ERROR.TXT and try to fix any problems in the server control.  
  27. Once you have the program working try going to 
  28. http://127.0.0.1/hello.html and see if it works.  If it worked, you'll 
  29. see "hello world" and the tool tip counter should go up to 1.

  32. Local Installation Notes
  33. ------------------------
  34. To run Fnord without a network connection you must do the following:
  35.  
  36. 1) Make sure you have the non-dialup version of TCP/IP setup.  This
  37.    can be installed from your Windows disk(s).
  38. 2) In the control panel, general tab, set your server address 
  39.    to 127.0.0.1
  40. 3) In the control panel, logs tab, turn off Conver IP Numbers to
  41.    DNS Names (you may want to disable ALL logging.)

  46. 2 builds of the server program are included 
  47.  
  48. fnord.exe    - 486+ 95/NT
  49. fnordnt.exe  - 486+ runs as NT Service
  50.

  53. After installing, it is run as a console app.

  55. fnordnt HELP      - Shows a list of commands
  56. fnordnt INSTALL   - Registers itself with NT as a service
  57. fnordnt START     - Starts the fnord service
  58. fnordnt STOP      - Stops the fnord service
  59. fnordnt UNINSTALL - Unregisters itself with NT
  60.  
  61. Once the service has been registered, many of these tasks
  62. (and many others) can be done from the services section of
  63. the control panel.  Once installed, Fnord service will start
  64. durring system boot.
