  4. GSview 2.7 - PostScript previewer.  Needs Ghostscript 5.50.

  7. Overview
  8. ========
  9. GSview is a graphical interface for Ghostscript under MS-Windows
  10. or OS/2.  Ghostscript is an interpreter for the PostScript page 
  11. description language used by laser printers.
  12. For documents following the Adobe PostScript Document Structuring 
  13. Conventions, GSview allows selected pages to be viewed or printed.
  14. GSview requires Ghostscript 4.03 - 5.99.
  15.  
  16. Features include:
  17.  - View pages in arbitrary order (Next, Previous, Goto).
  18.  - Selectable display resolution, depth, alpha.
  19.  - Page size is automatically selected from DSC comments
  20.    or can be selected using the menu.
  21.  - Orientation can be automatically selected from DSC comments
  22.    or can be selected using the menu (Portrait, Landscape).
  23.  - Single button zoom.
  24.  - Print selected pages using Ghostscript.
  25.    A page offset can be applied.

  68. ============
  69. If you have the self extracting archive gsv27550.exe, run it.
  70. This contains GSview 2.7 and Aladdin Ghostscript 5.50 for Win32.

  72. Otherwise, create four 1.44M floppies containing the following files, or
  73. put them all in the same directory on your hard disk.

  123. Disk 1 is the contents of gsv27w32.zip or gsv27w16.zip or gsv27os2.zip
  124. (all of which are contained in gsview27.zip).
  125. Disks 2-4 are obtained from ftp://ftp.cs.wisc.edu/ghost/aladdin/
  126.  
  127. If using the floppy install method, 10 Mbytes of hard disk space is 
  128. required.
  129.  
  130. The installation will overwrite any version of GSview or
  131. Aladdin Ghostscript in the destination directories.  If you
  132. wish to save your Fontmap file, back it up to another directory.
  133. Make sure that the zip files are transferred in binary mode and
  134. are all present.
  135.  
  136. The Ghostscript fonts are used by Ghostscript alone.  Your system 
  137. Fonts folder will not be modified.
  138.  
  139. To install from OS/2, run 'os2setup.exe' from disk 1.
  140. If you do not already have EMX isntalled on your system, you will 
  141. also need a Disk 4:
  142.   emxrt.zip         EMX Run Time library (OS/2 only).

  146. For Windows NT or Windows 95, run 'setup.exe' from disk 1.
  147. If you get a "Can't open DDE connection to Program Manager"
  148. message, your system is corrupted.  Reboot Windows then try again.
  149.  
  150. For MS-Windows 3.1, it is recommended that you use the
  151. Win32 version.  You must have Win32s installed before
  152. installing GSview.  See http://www.microsoft.com/ or
  153.   ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/PW1118.EXE
  154. GSview and Ghostscript will not work with some versions
  155. of Win32s.  If it doesn't work with your version, try 
  156. updating to a later version of Win32s.  Some computers
  157. will work with Win32s v1.15, others will not.
  158. To install from MS-Windows, run 'setup.exe' from disk 1.
  159. If you wish to use the slower 16-bit version, install
  160. using 'setup16.exe' from gsv27w16.zip.
  161.  
  162. If you don't like automatic installation programs, it is 
  163. possible to install GSview and Ghostscript manually.  See
  164. the Setup topic below for more details.
  165.  
  166. If you wish to use install GSview without any prompts, give
  167. a destination directory on the command line.  For example:
  168.   setup c:\gstools
  169. This will not prompt for a destination directory and will
  170. overwrite files without asking.
  171.  
  172. Configuration of GSview will occur the first time it is run.

  175. Other Languages
  176. ===============
  177. English:
  178. Brief instructions for non-English language readers.
  179. Obtain the files listed in the section above titled "Installation".
  180. Run setup.exe (MS-Windows) or os2setup.exe (OS/2).
  181. If running a non-English version of MS-Windows, you will be prompted
  182. to select "English", "Deutsch" or "Franτais".
  183. After installing, run GSview.
  184. You may change the language later with
  185.   "Options | Language" or "Optionen | Sprache" or "Options | Langue"

  215. Compilation
  216. ===========
  217. To compile GSview for OS/2 you need IBM NMAKE.EXE and EMX/GCC 0.9c.
  218. To create the GSview online help you need the IBM toolkit.
  219. Copy gvpm.mak to Makefile and edit COMPBASE and EMXPATH as required.
  220. Type 'nmake'
  221.  
  222. To compile GSview for Windows you need Borland C++ 4.5 or 
  223. MS Visual C++ 5.0.  Copy gvwin.mak (or gvwinvc.mak) to Makefile 
  224. then edit COMPBASE as required.  Type 'make'.

  229. These are the manual setup instructions.
  230. It is recommended that you use the installation program
  231. as described in the Installation section above.

  233. Create the directories gsview and gsN.NN (where N.NN is the
  234. Ghostscript version number).

  238.   gvpmen.hlp, gvpmde.hlp and gvpmfr.hlp (OS/2)

  241.   gsvw32de.dll, gsvw32fr.dll,

  246. Unzip Ghostscript into the gsN.NN directory and the Ghostscript
  247. fonts into gsN.NN\fonts.

  249. Start GSview and follow the configuration wizard instructions.

  251. GSview (gvpm.exe) will run under OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 Warp. 
  252. It may run under OS/2 2.0.
  253. PM GSview has been compiled with EMX/GCC 0.9c and requires
  254. the emx 0.9c DLL's.  These are available from
  255.   ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/os2/emx09c/emxrt.zip
  256.   ftp://ftp-os2.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/dev/emx/v0.9c/emxrt.zip
  257. If GSview refuses to run at all, make sure you do not have
  258. an old version of the emx DLL on your system.

  260. GSview (gsview32.exe) will run under Windows NT, 95, 98 and
  261. Windows 3.1/Win32s.  It will not run under Windows 3.0.

  271. When reporting bugs, please include the version number and date of 
  272. GSview (from the Help | About box), the version number of Ghostscript, 
  273. and the exact wording of any error messages.
  274. Do not send me large files (>100k bytes) unless requested.
  275. If you get a SYS3175 or GPF, please send the address of the GPF - I can 
  276. use this to help locate the bug.
  277. Please distinguish between bugs in GSview and bugs in Ghostscript.

  336. files.  Ghostscript is a separate program from GSview; it is

  341. the GNU Licence; in particular, it restricts the distribution of
