  5. MIDI Edit is a full featured MIDI sequencer that runs in Windows 3.0.  It uses
  6. standard MIDI files, so the resulting sequences can be used almost anywhere.
  7.  
  8. Major features include:
  9.     - imports Adlib ROL files
  10.     - up to 64 tracks
  11.     - runs in ALL Windows modes (including enhanced mode)
  12.     - will play songs in the background
  13.     - very powerful editing commands
  14.     - unique piano roll style notation for editing
  15.     - full online help
  16.     - supports standard MIDI files
  17.  
  18. MIDI Edit is ShareWare - not AnnoyWare or FreeWare.

  22. The following equipment is required to use MIDI Edit:
  23.     - PC running Microsoft Windows 3.0 or above (any mode)
  24.     - a mouse (not strictly required, but very handy)
  25.     - a Roland MPU-401 MIDI interface (or compatible)
  26.     - a MIDI Keyboard
  27.     - some MIDI noise boxes
  28.  
  29. Actually the above list is somewhat misleading.  All you really need is a PC
  30. and Windows.  However it is difficult to play or record without some MIDI
  31. equipment.

  35. Installation

  37. If you are installing MIDI Edit and WinJammer, please see the next section.
  38. Otherwise, simply create a directory and copy the files into it.  You should
  39. have the following files:
  40.         MIDIEDIT.EXE    - MIDI Edit executable
  41.         MIDILIB.DLL     - DLL which runs the MIDI hardware
  42.         MIDIEDIT.HLP    - the online help file
  43.         README          - this file
  44.         SONGS.DOC       - explanation and credits on sample songs
  45.         MIN-G.MID       - Bach's Minuet in G (kind of)
  46.         GREENSL.MID     - Nice arrangement of Greensleeves
  47.         CHINESE.MID     - Chinese Dance from the Nutcracker
  48.         WHATSNEW.110    - description of recent changes

  50. Add an icon to program manager using the File New command of program manager.
  51. Double click on the icon to start MIDI Edit.
  52.  
  53. MIDI Edit will display a quick introductory screen which will only appear once!
  54. As it says, use the MIDI Configure command to configure MIDI Edit for your
  55. hardware.  Help contains a topic Quick Start which may also be interesting.

  59. Installing MIDI Edit and WinJammer
  60.  
  61. WinJammer will peacefully co-exist with MIDI Edit in the same directory so
  62. long as the versions of the DLL are compatible.  Since this is version 1.10
  63. of WinJammer (and version 1.10 of the DLL), please make sure you are running
  64. at least version 1.10 of MIDI Edit.

  66. For those of you who don't know what MIDI Edit is, read on!

  70. ShareWare
  71.  
  72. MIDI Edit is not a free program, but is being distributed under the ShareWare
  73. concept.  This allows you to evaluate the program to determine whether it is
  74. worth anything, and then buy it if you are going to use it.  You must register
  75. the program if you are going to use it.
  76.  
  77. The version of MIDI Edit you have is fully featured and is in no way crippled.
  78. There are no annoying message boxes that appear reminding you to register
  79. either.  Please respect this.  If you use MIDI Edit after a reasonable
  80. evaluation period of two weeks, register the program.  If you don't think MIDI
  81. Edit is worth the money, let me know this too, and I'll see if I can satisfy
  82. you with the next release.
