  10. Welcome to Windows NT Support Tools. These tools are provided as troubleshooting
  11. and development tools for working with Microsoft Windows NT Server and Workstation,
  12. versions 3.51 and 4.0, including all Service Pack revisions.
  13. These tools have been developed for the x86 and Alpha platform.

  24. 2.0 What's included in the NT support tools version 2
  25. -----------------------------------------------------

  27. There are four tools/set of tools:
  28.  
  29. 1. New debugger extensions to facilitate examination and analysis of a wider
  30.    range of kernel data structures than is conveniently possible today, 
  31.    especially when dealing with crash dumps. This set of tools will be
  32.    referred to as the "Kernel Debugger Extensions".
  33.  
  34. 2. Tools for memory pool caller-tracking/tail-checking, pool logging, pool
  35.    free block pattern fill, and increasing available pool statistics. 
  36.    This set of tools will be referred to as the "Pool Enhancements".
  37.  
  38. 3. A heuristics-based kernel memory crash dump analysis tool to aid in
  39.    diagnosing memory corruption problems. This tool discovers and analyzes
  40.    anomalies in the kernel memory space and will be referred to as the
  41.    "Kernel Memory Space Analyzer".

  43. 4. A tool that allows users to create dump files from any Win32 process, such
  44.    as csrss.exe or explorer.exe, that can be examined using Windows Debugger.
  45.    The tool allows for manual creation of dump files via the command line or
  46.    hot-key, or automatic creation when exceptions occur in monitored processes.
  47.    This set of tools will be referred to as the "User Mode Process Dump".

  50. 3.0  Installation instructions
  51. ------------------------------

  53. 1. Unzip the following ZIP files to a desired directory.
  54.  
  55. 2. To install each set of tools, refer to the userdocs.doc file extracted
  56.    from support.zip. Also refer to the relnote.txt file contained in this
  57.    directory for known issues and restrictions.
