- Babel Encryption Utility Documentation
-
- ************* IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR USERS OF PREVIOUS VERSIONS ***************
- Even though this new version of Babel will encrypt blocks of text larger than 1KB
- (using ClipHack), for correct decryption, the block of text must be the SAME block
- that you encrypted. That means if you have 4 kb of text that you encrypted as 4
- 1KB blocks, you must DECRYPT them as 4 1KB blocks before you can use them as a
- single 4KB block for encryption or decryption. If you have any questions, please
- e-mail me your question before doing the upgrade to this version. (swangner@earthlink.net)
-
- Also, please remember to delete the old version (1.0) from your PalmPilot
- before installing the new version!
-
-
-
-
- Thank you for trying the Babel Encryption Utility for the U.S. Robotics
- PalmPilot. Babel is a simple, easy to use encryption program. It is able to
- encrypt any text that can be cut (or copied) to the PalmPilot clipboard, and
- all this from a 3KB prc file! Babel has been tested on all models of
- Pilot/PalmPilot (1000, 5000, PPPersonal, PPProfessional).
-
- The version of Babel that you have downloaded is the International Version.
- U.S. export regulations prohibit the export of any piece of encryption software
- with a key length of more than 40 bits. According to court decisions, making
- this type of software available for download on the Internet is considered
- exporting the software.
-
- Therefore, the downloadable version of Babel is limited to a key length of 3
- characters (24 bits), so as not to run afoul of these export restrictions.
-
- There is a more secure version available TO U.S. RESIDENTS ONLY, which has
- a 16 character (128 bit) limit to key length. The U.S. version of Babel will
- be made available to registered users of Babel. For details on how to
- register Babel, see the file "register.txt", included in this archive file.
