Modeler's Logbook
version 1.1
Keep your flight log on your Palm!
Modeler's Logbook allows you to conveniently record the facts about
every flight you make with a number of aircraft on your Palm OS
handheld! Record a complete history of all your planes. Save the
date, flying site, weather conditions, duration, and other information
for immediate recall.
***
License
You may use this program on your own Palm OS device(s), but you are
not permitted to distribute it to others. Modeler's Logbook is
copyright 2000, COMPUTASSIST, Omaha, NE. No warranty is stated or
implied. You use Modeler's Logbook at your own risk (although we
haven't had any problems, we can't promise you won't!)
***
Installation
With this version of Modeler's Logbook, you only need to install the
program file itself. No run-time modules are required. Use whatever
means you have to install the file on your Palm (Palm desktop on
Windows, pilot-xfer on Linux, etc.)

Planes & sites
Modeler's Logbook allows you to add up to 99 planes and 30 flying
sites to choose from when recording logbook entries. You can maintain
your plane and site lists by renaming or deleting entries as needed;
the Logbook will keep them sorted alphabetically. Renames and deletes
will NOT affect logbook entries that you have already entered.
To add or edit a plane or site, choose Edit planes or Edit sites from
the menu. You may add an item to the list by tapping the New button,
entering an identifying text, and tapping OK. To rename an existing
plane or site, select the item in the list, tap the Rename button and
change the text, then tap OK. To delete, select the item, tap the
Delete button and answer 'Yes' to the delete question.

Flights
Recording a flight is easy! Just choose the plane you're flying, the
site at which you're flying, use the sky, wind and temperature items
to record the weather, and enter any notes you want to remember about
the flight. After the flight ends, you can record the duration from
an outside timer, or have a friend use the built-in timer during your
flight. Modeler's Logbook remembers the details of your most recent
flight, and uses them as the default values for your next entry, for
easy recording of a series of flights.
Timer controls appear on the flight entry form. Use the start button
to begin timing the duration of the flight. Use the stop button to
stop the timer. The time will be saved with your flight information.
If you wish to enter the time manually, you can. Use one of three
methods:
Method 1 - enter the time as minutes, seconds, decimal fraction, in
the same format (MM:SS.DD) as the automatic timer displays. (To
enter a colon (:) with graffiti, tap once to toggle punctuation,
followed by a down-up stroke.)
Some examples: 2:17 12:55.08
Method 2 - enter a numeric value, including optional decimal portion,
followed by an 'm' to indicate a minute value.
Some examples: 2m 15.25m
Method 3 - enter a numeric value, including optional decimal portion,
followed by an 's' to indicate a second value.
Some examples: 70s 419.52s

Setting Filters
After you have a considerable number of flights logged, it may become
difficult to get a clear picture of the history of one aircraft or
flying site. By setting a filter on your logbook, you can view only
the entries you are interested in.
Choose the Filter option from the menu, and then choose a plane, site,
or set a date to filter on. When you OK the filter, Modeler's Logbook
will display only the flights that qualify based on that filter value.
An asterisk (*) will be displayed in the title bar to remind you that
you have a filter set. All views and exports respect the filter setting.
To clear the filter, go back to the filter form and choose None.
***
Exporting
Export to a memo allows you to import your logbook entries into a
spreadsheet or word processor for analysis or presentation. You can
also set a filter to restrict the exported data to one plane, flying
site, or date.
Set the filter first, if you intend to export only a portion of your
data. Then choose Export to memo from the menu. The export will take
a few seconds, and an activity monitor will let you know the Palm is
working. After the activity monitor disappears, you will find a new
memo in the Memo app containing your data, ready for syncing with your
desktop.
After performing a normal Hotsync operation, you can open the
Modeler's Logbook memo and copy the data into any other application.
It's formatted to import into a spreadsheet without further editing.

Registration
Use the trial version as long as you like. It allows you to record up
to 25 flights, enough to try out all the features of the program. You
can download it at http://computassist.hypermart.net/ml/.
The registered version of Modeler's Logbook gives you room for 500
flights, enough for a busy season of flying. It also allows you to
filter the data by plane, site, or date, and export to a memo, where
you can then use other programs for presentation or analysis.
To get the registered version, which allows 500 flights as well as
filters and exports, send us your payment via PayPal -- it's quick and
it's free! Go to http://computassist.hypermart.net/ml/ and click the
