  6. 1) Ten new chord types

  11.    that chord in the one-chord display.  Tapping the chord in the one-chord
  12.    display takes you to the three-chord display.

  14. Overview
  15. ========
  16. ChordBuddy is a guitar chord dictionary for the PalmOS.  It features 
  17. large, easy to read, chord diagrams with three different fingerings 
  18. for each chord.  Or all three fingerings can be viewed at once to 
  19. see which will be easier for you to play.  Several options are 
  20. available to customize the chord display and are described below.

  23. Shareware Registration
  24. ======================
  25. ChordBuddy is $10 (US) shareware.  That means you can try the software
  26. to see if you like it before you purchase.  Once you have evaluated
  27. ChordBuddy for a few days, please register it.
  28.  
  29. There are two ways that you can register your copy of ChordBuddy:
  30.  
  31. 1.) You can use PayPal (www.paypal.com).  It allows you to send
  32. money to anyone with an email address.  The email address you 
  33. should send the money to is ChordBuddy@yahoo.com.  It's a pretty 
  34. neat service and they can accept various credit cards.  They will 
  35. inform me via email when you have registered, and I will email your 
  36. personal registration code to you.  This process could take a day or two 
  37. (hopefully shorter, but possibly longer if I am out of town, etc.)

  39. 2.) Register on-line at www.palmgear.com using your credit card.  
  40. The URL is http://store.yahoo.com/pilotgearsw/randywade.html .
  41. You can also order from them over the phone at 800 741-9070 or 
  42. fax at 817 640-6614, however they charge $2 extra for phone orders.

  44. When your registration code is mailed to you, enter the code on the 
  45. register screen.  This screen appears each time you launch
  46. ChordBuddy, until you enter your registration code.

  49. System Requirements
  50. ===================
  51. ChordBuddy only requires PalmOS 2.0 or later, so it should
  52. run on most of the PalmOS based PDAs out there.  It requires 
  53. less than 17K of RAM.

  56. Selecting Chords
  57. =========
  58. To see how to play a chord, first you select the root from the 
  59. left menu at the top of the screen (e.g. C) and then the chord 
  60. type from the menu to its right (e.g. maj).  There will be one, 
  61. two or three sets of buttons at the bottom of the screen.  
  62. These are as follows:
  63.  
  64. Number of Chords:
  65. The left most set of buttons allows you to select displaying either 
  66. one large chord diagram or three smaller chord diagrams.  Selecting 
  67. the button with the 3 in it selects displaying all three at once.  
  68. Selecting the button with the 1 in it selects displaying the one large 
  69. chord diagram.  This also causes three buttons to appear to right of the 
  70. current buttons. These are the chord positions.  As a shortcut, you can
  71. tap one of the chords in the three-chord display and have that chord 
  72. position come up in the one-chord display.  Also, tapping the chord in the 
  73. one-chord display takes you to the three-chord display.

  75. Chord Position:
  76. These three buttons are labeled I,II and III.  These select the three ways 
  77. to play the currently selected chord.
  78.  
  79. #/b Preference:
  80. If you selected a root that has an enharmonic name (e.g. C#/Db) these 
  81. buttons will appear.  This controls whether you are calling the current 
  82. chord a sharp or a flat.  This changes the root name displayed above the 
  83. chord diagram and the note names and spelling notes if they are displayed.

  86. Preferences
  87. ===========
  88. The preferences can be changed by tapping the silk screened menu button on 
  89. your Palm (bottom left silk screen button).  Select Preferences from the 
  90. Options menu that appears.  This brings up the preferences dialog box, which 
  91. gives you the following options:
  92.  
  93. Show Chord Spelling:
  94. Checking this box enables an area to the right of the chord diagram to list 
  95. the notes that makes up the chord (i.e. chord spelling).  It lists both the 
  96. intervals and the actual note names.  For example, a C major chord would have 
  97. the interval of 1 (root) 3 (3rd) and 5 (5th) which are C E and G, respectively.

  99. Show String Note Names:
  100. Checking this box enables displaying the corresponding note below each string
  101. in the chord diagram.
  102.  
  103. Reverse Strings
  104. Checking this box causes the strings on the diagram to reverse where the low
  105. E string will be on the right instead of left.  This is useful for left-handed
  106. guitarists.
  107.  
  108. Low Strings Drawn Fatter
  109. Checking this box causes the low E and the A strings to be drawn thicker.  This
  110. is meant to give a visual clue as to which side has the low E string.  This also
  111. gives a visual clue to see if the strings are being displayed reversed (left-
  112. handed)

  114. Style:
  115. I have seen diffent styles of displaying chord diagrams on differnt pieces of 
  116. sheet music, so I included this option to allow the chords to be display the 
  117. way you like best.  The three styles that are available from this pop-up menu 
  118. are:

  120. X's for not Played:
  121. This style displays an X above each string that is not played in the chord, 
  122. and each string that is to be played open has nothing above it.
  123.  
  124. O's for Open:
  125. This style displays an O above each string that is to be played open in the 
  126. chord, and each string that is not played has nothing above it.

  128. X's and O's:
  129. This style displays an X above each string that is not played in the chord, 
  130. and displays an O above each string that is to be played open.

  133. About ChordBuddy
  134. ================
  135. The about box can be display by tapping the silk screened menu button on 
  136. your Palm (bottom left silk screen button).  Select About ChordBuddy from the 
  137. Options menu that appears.  This brings up the about box that has the version 
  138. number and copyright info.
