1.2 System Requirements
Formulas is designed to work on both the PalmPilot Professional and Personal units, as well as the Palm III device. Throughout this manual, PalmPilot is used to refer to any of these units.
1.3 Registering Formulas;
Formulas is Shareware, and costs $12.00
The Formulas Demo will work for a 30 day trial period. At the end of the 30 Days, it will stop working. To avert this tragedy, you will need to get in touch with Stand Alone to register your software. You can register with us by several different methods.
You will need to include the following information, no matter how you choose to register. Most importantly, you need to include your name EXACTLY as it is entered in your PalmPilot, including spaces. We use this to generate your password, so it must be precise. You will need to specify which programs you wish to register, and include payment for each of them. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. If you are using normal mail, you can send us a check as well.
Make sure to include your card number, the expiration date, and what type of card you are using. You also need to give us a way to get in touch with you. Email is the preferred way, followed by your address and phone number. An Email address is not strictly necessary, but it will result in much faster service.
For instant gratification, register by phone, and pay using Visa or Mastercard. To do so, call (773) 477-2492 and we will give you a password right over the phone.
Alternatively, you can send us a check to the address below.
You can also Email us. Just Email us the relevant information, and we╒ll send you a code. If you are registering through Compuserve, use, GO SWREG.
Once you register, you will receive a password from us. You can install this password one of two ways. There is an option to Enter Password via the Enter Password option in the menu. Tap on it to bring up a screen that has a space to enter the password.

1.5 Reporting Bugs
If you find a bug in our software, it would be helpful if you reported the bug to us. To report a bug, please Email us with Bug Report Request in the subject line. In the Email, include the following information:
ÑWhat type of PalmPilot you are using (i.e. Personal)
ÑThe software name and version number (i.e. Formulas 1.0)
ÑThe error number
ÑA brief description of how we can recreate the error
ÑYour name and Email address so we can contact you when the bug is fixed
When reporting bugs, it is best to Email us, rather than calling, so that the programers have a written record of the information they need to solve the problem.
As soon as we receive your Email, the programer will examine the problem, and fix it.. Because our programers are busy creating software, it can take a while for them to reply, but they will release a new version of the software that fixes the bug as soon as they can.

2.2 Shortcuts
You will find that, unlike some other Pilot apps, Formulas does not require you to tap the screen every time you want to move down a line. Instead, simply tap the line you wish to move to, and viola! you are there.
The aforementioned Clear button is also an easy way to undo any mistakes you may have made in digits.
3 The Formulas
Learn how to use all of the applications in Formulas for the Palm OS in this section.
3.1 Area Codes
To access this palm-sized telephone book and operator in one, tap the first formula under the Formulas heading, or use the
graffiti command-A.
Area Codes can help you find any area code, based on city, state, or even the first 1 or 2 digits of the area code in question. You may even use this application to find the city or state to match any 3-digit area code.
Simply enter the Graffiti digits or letters you wish to track, and plow forth. You have 3 options: city, state, or area code, which change when you tap and hold the little arrow next to the current word.
3.2 Currency Exchange
This application is your own personal bank and international currency headquarters! Select 2 countries from the list, and enter a number into each blank for the amounts you wish to compare (ex: inputting 1 US dollar yields .62401 British pounds). The default setting is always set to 1 of each currency you select, unless you enter a different number.
Note: As currency rates constantly fluctuate, you also have the option of entering the current exchange rate on the line marked "Exchange Rate", and solving for the amounts of money for the 2 countries...
Switch nations by tapping and holding on the small arrows next to each country and its currency. (This is also an easy way to discover the name for virtually any major country's currency.)
Scroll up or down by tapping the arrows on the right side of the list.
3.3 Date Conversion/ Calculator
This function enables you to effortlessly calculate the number of days until your birthday, Christmas, next year, or whichever event you choose.
Be creative: figure out your age in days, or calculate how much time you have to buy next year's Mother's Day gifts...
Tap the arrow next to Start Date or End Date to enter a new date.
Note: If you tap the option for Today when the calendar appears, the date automatically selected is the current date.
For example, if you wish to figure out which day is a week from today, enter Today as the Start Date and input 7 on the line for Number of Days.
The posibilities are endless...
3.4 Loan Payments
Use this application to compute those numbers you dread the most: the amount of money you owe (or will owe) to loans...
Input a base amount in the line next to the word Amount, and then
add in any variable you wish: the interest you will also owe, the number of months you will take to pay off these loans (Note: you must compute this in months, as there is no option for years. So, for 10 years, you must input 120 in the space for Months)
Your total payments and the total amount of interest you will have paid are then shown at the bottom of the screen next to their respectable titles, for better or for worse!
Caution: This program cannot solve for the initial interest you were charged... You must input this rate to generate the final interest rates and the amount total.
3.5 Metric Conversion
This convenient guide allows you to solve equations for 6 popular metric conversion units, as shown below.
Simply tap on an option in the grid to switch options. The current option is highlighted.
3.51 Temperature enables you to find the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius units.
(pic)
3.52 Length allows you to convert units from and into inches, feet, yards, miles, cm, m, and km. Select conversion units by tapping and holding on the little arrows next to each setting, and input the numbers you wish to convert in the lines next to these units.
3.53 With Liquids you may compare units in Fluid Oz., Pints, Quarts, Gallons, Milliliters, and Liters. No more faulty estimation! You may choose either British or U.S. liquids.
3.54 Area gives you the options of square inches, square feet, square yards, acres, square centimeters, square meters, and hectares.
3.55 Weight presents you with the conversion units of ounces, pounds, tons, long tons, grams, and kilograms.
3.6 Tip Calculator
No calculators or finger counting needed! Simply input the amount of the bill, the amount you wish to tip, and both the tip and the total including the tip are calculated for you on the lines below.
Note: You may also inout a bill amount and a total amount and then solve for the accompanying tip percentage.
