  4. The Scanner provides a visualization of your media usage. To show the 
  5. relations optimally, all files and folders of the selected disk(s) 
  6. are displayed together in one diagram - with an area size proportional 
  7. to the used space. Smaller objects are invisible, of course. So the 
  8. Scanner is not intended to be a File Manager.
  9.  
  10. The Scanner uses an extended pie chart with concentric rings. Outer 
  11. segments represent deeper directory levels. When you move the cursor 
  12. over a particular colored area you will see descriptive information 
  13. about it. Clicking on a particular folder will allow you to see further 
  14. details in a zoom fashion. Click on the center area to go to the parent 
  15. folder. 
  16. Note: You cannot zoom into folders that are too small to be visible from 
  17. the parent folder.

  19. After the initial scan you get a hard disk summary. To get similar 
  20. results for any other drives on your computer, please select the 
  21. appropriate button on the left side. Clicking on the selected drive 
  22. again causes a rescan action. Determine which drives are part of the 
  23. summary by using the "Summary" switch in the drive context menu
  24. (right-click the appropriate button).

  26. Use the "Back" button to change to the previously focused folder. The 
  27. "Rescan Folder" button causes rescanning of the focused folder only.

  29. Additionally, the program provides fast access to two means of space
  30. regain: Software Removal and empty the Recycle Bin. Note: while the 
  31. latter function will be recognized automatically, you should let the 
  32. display update after you removed software.

  34. If you detect any bugs, please report them to me. Include an exact 
  35. description of your drives and the logfile 'Scanner.log', which you can 
  36. generate by pressing 'L' from the Scanner.

  38. Optimization:
  39.  
  40. This paragraph is only of interest to you, if your system contains more
  41. than one physical hard disk. The program is capable of scanning all 
  42. disks simultaneously, thereby reducing the scan time. Each drive has a 
  43. context menu (right-click the appropriate button), where you can adjust
  44. the physical drive number. Drives with different numbers are beeing 
  45. scanned simultaneously. Note: Do not adjust partitions on the same 
  46. physical disk to different numbers - you'd make the program slower!

  53. Installation/Deinstallation:

  55. After you have unpacked the ZIP-Archive, the Scanner is ready for use.
  56. If you want to incorporate the program into the Start Menu, it has to be
  57. done manually. To uninstall, simply delete all Scanner.* files. The 
  58. program does not change the Windows system directory.
