  29. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  30. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are required to
  31. register it (or purchase the licensed version as in the case of Paint Shop
  32. Pro).

  34. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  35. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  36. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  37. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  38. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  39. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  40. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  41. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  42. copy their Shareware.

  44. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  45. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  46. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  47. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  48. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  49. product, you don't pay for it.

  113.                       Installing Paint Shop Pro
  114.     Before you can use Paint Shop Pro you have to run the Paint
  115. Shop Pro setup program from Windows so it will work properly on
  116. your computer. You cannot just copy the files from the Paint Shop
  117. Pro disk to your hard disk.  The files on the distribution disk
  118. are packed in a special way to save space.  The setup program
  119. unpacks those files and builds them on your working disk.
  120.  
  121.     1.  Make Windows' "Program Manager" the active window.
  122.  
  123.     2.  From Windows' "Program Manager", select "File", then
  124.         select "Run". This will open the "Run" dialog box.
  125.  
  126.         Place a the Paint Shop Pro disk in your floppy drive.
  127.         Type in the dialog box the command that will run the Paint
  128.         Shop Pro setup program.
  129.  
  130.         If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "A", type:
  131.             A:SETUP
  132.         If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "B", type:
  133.             B:SETUP
  134.  
  135.         Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the
  136.         "OK" command button (or press "Enter").
  137.  
  138.     3.  After a brief moment you will be prompted by a dialog box
  139.         to enter the desired location for Paint Shop Pro.  This is
  140.         the location that you want your Paint Shop Pro files to be
  141.         placed.  It will suggest a drive and directory of "C:\PSP".
  142.  
  143.         If you want the Paint Shop Pro program files installed on a
  144.         different drive or directory, just click the pointer to the
  145.         right of the characters you want to change, backspace over
  146.         the ones you want to erase, then type in the new designation.
  147.  
  148.     4.  Paint Shop Pro Setup will unpack the necessary files and
  149.         place them into your directory.  The status of the operation
  150.         will be displayed as the setup program does this work.  If
  151.         Paint Shop Pro came on more than one disk, during the
  152.         unpacking of the disks you will be requested to insert the
  153.         next disk.

  155.     5.  You will be asked if you would like to add Paint Shop Pro
  156.         to the program manager.
  157.  
  158.             Select "No" if you do not want Paint Shop Pro added
  159.             to your program manager.
  160.  
  161.             Select "Yes"  to have the setup program automatically
  162.             build a Paint Shop Pro icon and add it to your program
  163.             manager.

  165.     6.  The setup program will notify you when the installation is
  166.         complete.

  172. In order to keep the size of the Shareware version of Paint Shop Pro
  173. reasonable no user's manual is provided. You will find that ALL menu items
  174. and associated dialog boxes, along with general information, is provided on
  175. line using the HELP-INDEX menu option of the program.

  177. When you purchase the licensed version of Paint Shop Pro you will receive the
  178. fully illustrated, perfect bound User's Guide.

  223. You are encouraged to pass a copy of the shareware version of Paint Shop Pro
  224. along to your friends for evaluation.

  247. You may use the shareware version of Paint Shop Pro for a 30 day trial period.
  248. If you would like to continue to use Paint Shop Pro after the 30 day trial
  249. period, you are required to purchase the licensed version of Paint Shop Pro.

  251. When you purchase the licensed version of Paint Shop Pro you will receive
  252. a disk with the licensed version and the printed user's guide.

  254. Paint Shop Pro may be purchased from a number of sources. You are free to
  255. purchase your copy from where ever you desire.

  259. 2. At the Shareware Dialog Box press the "Help" button.
  260. 3. Click the left mouse button on the vendor of your choice.
