  23. 1. ABOUT THE EVALUATION SOFTWARE
  24.  
  25. Thank you for your interest in ConfigSafe. The evaluation 
  26. software includes all the features offered in the full, 
  27. registered software. We hope you find this product to be 
  28. as effective and powerful as we do.

  30. The evaluation software will expire 30 days from the date 
  31. you install it. For information on purchasing the full 
  32. version of ConfigSafe, see section 3 below.

  35. 2. THE POWER OF CONFIGSAFE
  36.  
  37. ConfigSafe is a configuration tracking and recovery tool 
  38. for Windows PCs. ConfigSafe takes "snapshots" of your 
  39. computer's system settings. You can use these snapshots 
  40. to quickly resolve problems by identifying changes to your 
  41. registry (Windows NT and Windows 95 only), file versions 
  42. (including .dll, .exe, and .ini files and drivers), system 
  43. hardware, network connections, and operating system software. 
  44. Then, if you have system problems, you can easily restore 
  45. your computer to a working configuration. 
  46.  
  47. With ConfigSafe, you can take a snapshot of your system 
  48. configuration at any time. You can also have ConfigSafe 
  49. automatically take a snapshot at scheduled intervals.

  52. 3. PURCHASING THE FULL VERSION OF CONFIGSAFE
  53.  
  54. ConfigSafe is licensed on a per-computer basis. A separate
  55. license must be purchased for each computer on which you
  56. want to install ConfigSafe. To purchase a full version of
  57. ConfigSafe, contact your local reseller, or call the Artisoft 
  58. Sales Consultation Center at 1-800-846-9726.

  61. 4. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  65.  - Microsoft Windows NT v3.51 or 4.0
  66.  - VGA color monitor
  67.  - 1.5MB of disk space for the software
  68.  - 5MB (recommended minimum) for the Configuration Tracking

  88. 5. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE - IMPORTANT TIPS
  89.  
  90. a. If You Get a "File Error" Message (Windows 3.x only)
  91.    ----------------------------------------------------
  92. When you are installing ConfigSafe under Windows 3.x, you 
  93. may get the following error message:
  94.  
  95.               File Error
  96.         Cannot find CTL3DV2.DLL
  97.  
  98. If you do, click Close to proceed and complete the installation.
  99.  
  100. To prevent this error message from appearing in the future, 
  101. perform the following steps:
  102.  
  103.  1. Exit ConfigSafe.
  104.  2. Using a text editor, open a new file. Save the file as
  105.     CTL3DV2.DLL in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and exit
  106.     the text editor.
  107.  
  108. ConfigSafe will now run without displaying the error message.
  109.  
  110. NOTE: If any of your other Windows applications behave
  111.       improperly after you create the new CTL3DV2.DLL file,
  112.       delete the CTL3DV2.DLL file. ConfigSafe will still
  113.       function correctly.
  114.  
  115. b. Required Windows NT Privileges
  116.    ------------------------------
  117. Under Windows NT, your user profile must include certain 
  118. privileges to install ConfigSafe (and to run the software). 
  119. See section 4 below for details. 
  120.

  122. 6. REQUIRED PRIVILEGES (WINDOWS NT ONLY)
  123.    
  124. Under Windows NT, your user profile must include the 
  125. following privileges to perform the functions indicated:
  126.  
  127.  - To install or run ConfigSafe NT: 
  128.   "Back up files and directories privileges" 
  129.   "Managing and auditing security log"
  130.   "Restore files and directories"
  131.  
  132.  - To take automatic snapshots: 
  133.   "Back up files and directories privileges"
  134.  
  135. Make sure everyone who will need to take snapshots 
  136. of their system has the "Back up files and directories 
  137. privileges." If they do not, no snapshots will be taken.
  138.  
  139. NOTE: By default, members of the Administrators group will 
  140.       generally have the rights needed to perform all 
  141.       ConfigSafe functions. Also by default, members 
  142.       of the Backup Operators group will have the access 
  143.       rights needed to perform automatic snapshots.

  146. 7. FINDING THE INFORMATION YOU NEED
  147.  
  148. For instructions about using ConfigSafe, refer to the online 
  149. Help that is included with the software.

  152. 8. RESTORING YOUR SYSTEM USING THE SOS UTILITY 
  153.    (WINDOWS 95 AND 3.X ONLY)
  154.  
  155. In addition to using the Restore button on the ConfigSafe
  156. main screen, under Windows 95 and 3.x only you can also
  157. restore your system using the DOS-based SOS utility.
  158.  
  159. To do this, at a DOS prompt, change to your ConfigSafe
  160. directory then type SOS <Enter>. If you make a mistake, 
  161. select the Undo button on the ConfigSafe main screen. 
  162. ConfigSafe will return your system to the configuration 
  163. that existed before you ran the SOS utility.
