Description of FTP_GM
--------------------------
FTP_GM is a File Transfer Program (FTP) which uses TCP/IP to transfer
files from your PC to another PC or host.
Steps to use FTP_GM:
1- Run FTP_GM from the icon in Program Manager
2- Click on the File; Connect menu OR click on the connect icon:
(the connect icon is represented by the network cable connection)
3- You are prompted with the following "Connect Session" prompts:
Node: enter node name or IP address of node
UserID: enter your user ID login name
Password: enter your password
4- Click on Login to connect
Once connected, FTP_GM will get a directory listing of the host you are
connected to.
Note: If FTP_GM cannot connect to the desired host, check the lower left
part of the FTP_GM screen for a message. The message will give you enough
information to know why you can not connect. Example of a message:
host rejects userid/password
which means that the userID and password you used is not correct, or that
you do not have rights on that host while using that login ID.
Get Files:
----------
Select file transfer mode: ASCII or Binary,
On the Remote Host Directory listing, click on the file you wish to copy
to your PC (single click). Then click on the arrow pointing right
(towards your local drive box):
-->
If you want the file to arrive at another disk\directory location, simple
change disk or directory under "Local Directory".
PUT (send) files:
-----------------
Select file transfer mode: ASCII or Binary,
On the Local Directory file listing, select the file you wish to 'send',
by clicking on it once. Then click on the arrow pointing left (towards
the Remote Host Directory listing):
<--
Changing Remote Host Directory:
-------------------------------
On the Remote Host Directory listing, click on the directory you want to
change to. The click twice on the name to change to it. If the change
does not take place, the following could be wrong:
- the name is not a directory, but a file
- you don't have the right to change to that directory
Going back (up) the directory, click on the arrow pointing up.
To get a fresh listing of the directory listings of both the local and
remote directory listings, click on the water tap (re-fresh!?!?).
Mask:
-----
A mask can be applied on the Remote Directory listing. Examples:
*.* list files with characters that have a dot (.) somewhere
in the file name (not exactly like DOS is it?)
M* all files (including directories) that start with M;
sample outputs might be:
MESSAGES.G
Mail/receive
Mail/rent
Note: When files appear with directory names, clicking
twice on the entry will cause FTP_GM to change directory
to that directory. So clicking twice on Mail/rent, would
change directory to the Mail sub-directory.
This program is friendly with no nag screens. A registration fee
of $12 U.S. ($15 Canadian) is requested, see license.txt for more
information.
