  73. Sponsored Messaging Display
  74. -----------------------------
  75. This version of PKZIP for Windows displays banner advertisements in
  76. the lower portion of the main application window. Clicking on the 
  77. banner advertisement will automatically launch your default web 
  78. browser and forward you to it's sponsor's web page. Fully registered
  79. versions of PKZIP for Windows do not display banner advertising. 
  80.  
  81. Banner advertisements are provided via the Adgateway service which is
  82. developed and maintained by Conducent Technologies, Incorporated. 
  83. PKWARE is currently distributing version 4.0 of Conducent's Adgateway
  84. software. The Adgateway service utilizes a program named TSADBOT.EXE
  85. which runs as an unattended background process on your system. This
  86. program will periodically contact the Adgateway server to exchange
  87. advertising display information. It will NOT record or communicate 
  88. information about the applications you are using or the sites you 
  89. have visited. Its sole purpose is to transmit and receive (via your
  90. Internet connection) information necessary for the operation of the
  91. Adgateway service. The specific information exchanged with the 
  92. Adgateway server consists of:
  93.  
  94. IP Address of the Adgateway Server (not the IP address of the user's
  95. system)
  96.  
  97. User ID (4 byte integer that is assigned to the user's system by the
  98. Adgateway server)
  99.  
  100. Application Name (application identifier internal to PKZIP for 
  101. Windows)
  102.  
  103. Verification and security code associated with the application using 
  104. the Adgateway software (i.e. PKZIP for Windows)
  105.  
  106. Ad statistics (information on the accumulated impressions since the 
  107. last time your system communicated with the Adgateway server)
  108.  
  109. The Adgateway server also records the IP network mask (not the 
  110. specific IP address) of the users domain.  
  111.  
  112. Area Code if you are using a dial-up connection.
  113.  
  114. Operating system version (major, minor, and subminor information).
  115.  
  116. The Domain from which you are connecting.
  117.  
  118. Under normal operations the Adgateway service runs unattended and 
  119. does not interfere with system usage. Some network access 
  120. configurations, such as metered ISDN connections, may observe 
  121. increased network activity which may result in additional connection
  122. charges from your ISDN provider. If this causes a problem, or if you
  123. experience other conflicts while using this product, please uninstall
  124. the software immediately and report the problem to PKWARE Technical
  125. Support (support@pkware.com). For continued use, we encourage you to
  126. purchase a Registered version of PKZIP for Windows which does not 
  127. display banner advertising.

  129. Platform Notes
  130. ----------------
  131. This version of PKZIP for Windows will only run on Windows 9x or 
  132. Windows NT 4.0 or greater. Users must have appropriate access 
  133. privileges (e.g. NT Administrator) to install and/or uninstall this
  134. version of PKZIP for Windows. Consult your systems administrator for
  135. further information on Windows access privilege configuration.

  137. Installing Over Existing Versions of PKZIP for Windows
  138. --------------------------------------------------------
  139. If you are installing over an existing version of PKZIP for Windows,
  140. you may wish to uncheck the check boxes labeled "Create program 
  141. group(s)" and "Register extensions(s)" to avoid conflicts with your
  142. existing configuration settings.

  144. If you are installing this Shareware software onto a system where a 
  145. previously installed Registered version of PKZIP for Windows resides,
  146. you may wish to select an alternate destination (i.e. installation) 
  147. directory to avoid overwriting your Registered software.
