- Sponsored Messaging Display
- -----------------------------
- This version of PKZIP for Windows displays banner advertisements in
- the lower portion of the main application window. Clicking on the
- banner advertisement will automatically launch your default web
- browser and forward you to it's sponsor's web page. Fully registered
- versions of PKZIP for Windows do not display banner advertising.
-
- Banner advertisements are provided via the Adgateway service which is
- developed and maintained by Conducent Technologies, Incorporated.
- PKWARE is currently distributing version 4.0 of Conducent's Adgateway
- software. The Adgateway service utilizes a program named TSADBOT.EXE
- which runs as an unattended background process on your system. This
- program will periodically contact the Adgateway server to exchange
- advertising display information. It will NOT record or communicate
- information about the applications you are using or the sites you
- have visited. Its sole purpose is to transmit and receive (via your
- Internet connection) information necessary for the operation of the
- Adgateway service. The specific information exchanged with the
- Adgateway server consists of:
-
- IP Address of the Adgateway Server (not the IP address of the user's
- system)
-
- User ID (4 byte integer that is assigned to the user's system by the
- Adgateway server)
-
- Application Name (application identifier internal to PKZIP for
- Windows)
-
- Verification and security code associated with the application using
- the Adgateway software (i.e. PKZIP for Windows)
-
- Ad statistics (information on the accumulated impressions since the
- last time your system communicated with the Adgateway server)
-
- The Adgateway server also records the IP network mask (not the
- specific IP address) of the users domain.
-
- Area Code if you are using a dial-up connection.
-
- Operating system version (major, minor, and subminor information).
-
- The Domain from which you are connecting.
-
- Under normal operations the Adgateway service runs unattended and
- does not interfere with system usage. Some network access
- configurations, such as metered ISDN connections, may observe
- increased network activity which may result in additional connection
- charges from your ISDN provider. If this causes a problem, or if you
- experience other conflicts while using this product, please uninstall
- the software immediately and report the problem to PKWARE Technical
- Support (support@pkware.com). For continued use, we encourage you to
- purchase a Registered version of PKZIP for Windows which does not
- display banner advertising.
-
- Platform Notes
- ----------------
- This version of PKZIP for Windows will only run on Windows 9x or
- Windows NT 4.0 or greater. Users must have appropriate access
- privileges (e.g. NT Administrator) to install and/or uninstall this
- version of PKZIP for Windows. Consult your systems administrator for
- further information on Windows access privilege configuration.
-
- Installing Over Existing Versions of PKZIP for Windows
- --------------------------------------------------------
- If you are installing over an existing version of PKZIP for Windows,
- you may wish to uncheck the check boxes labeled "Create program
- group(s)" and "Register extensions(s)" to avoid conflicts with your
- existing configuration settings.
-
- If you are installing this Shareware software onto a system where a
- previously installed Registered version of PKZIP for Windows resides,
- you may wish to select an alternate destination (i.e. installation)
- directory to avoid overwriting your Registered software.
