  17. If you are running the IntranetWare Client v2.20 for DOS/WIN or Windows 95,
  18. IntranetWare Client 4.11 for Windows NT, or the NetWare Client for 0S/2 2.12
  19. then you are year 2000 ready. The only exception is if you are in a locale that
  20. displays the year first. These clients shipped with NDS for NT v1.0 & v2.0.

  22. There are no Year 2000 updates for the current released versions of the Novell
  23. Client. The Novell Clients are located at

  41. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

  43. Requirements:
  44. 1) Hardware must be year 2000 ready (check with your hardware vendor)
  45. 2) Workstation must have the version of the client mentioned at the top of this
  46. document under the heading Novell Products and Versions
  47.

  49. For Windows 3.1x:
  50.  
  51. Exit Windows and run the batch file INSTALL.BAT. (Or copy the NWLOCALE.DLL
  52. file.)

  55. For Windows 95:
  56.  
  57. Run the install program, C32INST.EXE.
  58.

  60. For Windows NT:

  62. Run the install program, PATCHNW.EXE.

  65. For OS/2:

  67. Create a directory called INSTALL$.NEW under \NETWARE.  Copy the OS/2 versions
  68. of NWLOCALE.DLL file into \NETWARE\INSTALL$.NEW and reboot.  (When the
  69. workstation is rebooted, all files in the INSTALL$.NEW directory will be moved
  70. automatically to the \NETWARE directory.  Existing files in the \NETWARE
  71. directory will be overwritten, and the INSTALL$.NEW directory will be removed.)

  73. Rename the original file before replacing it.

  75. Before installing any of these files, please verify the specific file location.
  76. The listed file location is only a default and may be different on the
  77. workstation on which the file is actually located.
  78.  
  79. The directory structure of the patch is arranged so that files in each
  80. directory will be copied to their respective directory on a client.
  81.  
  82. For Example:
  83. \CLIENT\WIN3x\SYSTEM\NWLOCALE.DLL should be copied to a Windows 3.1x client
  84. local drive. The default path is \SYSTEM.

  87. Upgrading multiple clients:
  88.  
  89. Use the Automatic Client Upgrade (ACU) process to set up your network so that
  90. users will be prompted to upgrade their own workstation clients when they log
  91. in.

  93. Windows 3.1x - See "Installing a Windows 3.1x Client" in IntranetWare Client
  94. for DOS and Windows 3.1x Supervisor Guide. ACU information is a subset of
  95. "Installing IntranetWare Client over the Network."

  97. Windows 95 - See "Installing the Client" in IntranetWare Client for Windows 95
  98. Supervisor Guide. "Installing with Automatic Client Upgrade" is a subset of
  99. this chapter.

  104. DOS - DOS workstations can be upgraded using the ACU process; however, doing so
  105. is not recommended because not all features are available with the DOS ACU. See
  106. "Installing a DOS Client" in IntranetWare Client for DOS and Windows 3.1x
  107. Supervisor Guide. ACU information is a subset of "Installing IntranetWare
  108. Client over the Network."

  110. NOTE: These updates work with all localized versions of intraNetWare.

  115. None of the year 2000 issues addressed by this update pose any threat to the
  116. network or to data integrity.

  120. You should only install these updates if you are:
  121.  
  122. 1. Using NWADMN3X.EXE for administration (The 16-bit version of NWAdmin).
  123.  
  124. 2. In a locale that the year is displayed first, yy-mm-dd and you dislike the
  125. year only displaying one character for the years 2000 - 2009.
  126.  
  127. 3. Unable to use the 32-bit version of NWAdmin (NWADMIN.EXE).

  139. For Japanese and other languages in which the year within a date is printed
  140. first, only one digit is printed.  The update enables displaying both digits
  141. (for example, 00-12-25 instead of 0-12-25).

  145. The problems addressed by this patch occur only with certain applications and
  146. utilities that were written using NWLOCALE.DLL and that are used in a locale
  147. (country) where the two-digit date format is yy/mm/dd. The particular problem
  148. identified was that in the years 2000 through 2009, only one digit was printed
  149. in the yy field. In locales where the yy is not the first field displayed in a
  150. date field, it worked fine with both digits being printed (that is, "00" for
  151. the year 2000).

  155. NWLOCALE.DLL is an older 16-bit library that was used only with Windows 3.1x
  156. utilities such as the 16-bit version of NWADMIN. It is used for backward
  157. compatibility to those older utilites on the newer client operating systems.
  158. 32-bit utilities do not use this DLL.

  162. In the file NWLOCALE.DLL, the API named NWLstrftime was updated to report the
  163. correct year after 1999.

  167. NOTE: A beta version of this file contained additional updates. Customer
  168. feedback indicated that because the updates dealt with issues starting with the
  169. year 2034, it was unnecessary to include them in the completed year 2000 update
  170. file.
