  8. This is the shareware version of ProKon, the metric conversion util-
  9. ity. ProKon is a 32-bit program and is intended to be run on Windows
  10. 95 or Windows NT.  This package should contain the following files.
  11. If it does not, you do not have the complete package and ProKon may 
  12. not operate properly.  Before installation the shareware version con-
  13. tains the following 16 files:

  16.      PPROKON.HLP   -  The help file for ProKon.
  17.      CALC._LP      -  The help file for the ProKon calculator.
  18.      FILE_ID.DIZ   -  A description file for online services.
  19.      GEOMETRY._LL  -  Compressed program files.
  20.      ELEMENTS._TA  -  Data file for ProKon.
  21.      PROKON._XE    -  More compressed program files.
  22.      UNINPROK._XE  -  More compressed program files.
  23.      INORG._TA     -  Data file for ProKon.
  24.      GAUGE._TA     -  Data file for ProKon.
  25.      CHEMICAL._TF  -  Font file for ProKon.
  26.      CHEMICAL.FOT  -  Font definition file for ProKon.
  27.      REGFORM.TXT   -  The registration form for ProKon.
  28.      SITEREG.TXT   -  The site registration form for ProKon.

  32. After installation the shareware version contains 15 files:

  34.      SETUP.EXE     -  The installation utility.
  35.      PROKON.EXE    -  The program itself.
  36.      GEOMETRY.DLL  -  The geometry dynamic link library.
  37.      REGFORM.TXT   -  The registration form in Windows NOTEPAD

  52. Once ProKon has been run one time, an additional file will be created
  53. in the home directory called CUSTOM.INI.  This is a configuration file.
  54. Another file called CONVERT.TXT may be created when you 'Copy' a set
  55. of results to clipboard and file.
  56.  
  57. There are two ways to install ProKon.  You can use Windows 95 Explorer
  58. to show the files on the distribution diskette and 'double-click' on 
  59. the SETUP.EXE file or you can use the 'Run' menu item in the 'START' 
  60. menu on the Windows Task Bar.  For the second option, enter the 
  61. path to the SETUP.EXE file in the dialog box in the 'Run' window.  
  62. For example, entering
  63.                          A:\SETUP.EXE
  64.  
  65. would run the installation program if you were installing from the 
  66. "A-Drive". SETUP.EXE will copy the necessary files to your hard drive 
  67. and, if you prefer, SETUP will also create the Program Manager group 
  68. along with the necessary icons to run ProKon.

  70. NOTE: YOU MUST RUN THE SETUP PROGRAM TO INSTALL PROKON PROPERLY!

  72. ProKon can be removed from your system by using the uninstall utility.
  73. When you install ProKon, the program item titled 'Uninstall ProKon' is
  74. automatically installed also.  By running this program item, ProKon
  75. can be removed from your system.  This program (filename = Uninprok.exe)
  76. will attempt to remove all of the program files, the folder containing
  77. the program files, and the program group and program items placed in
  78. the Windows menu system.

  80. Note that if you have a previous version of ProKon installed, you
  81. are not required to uninstall the previous version before you install
  82. the new version.  Simply install the new version to the same location
  83. as the previous version.  The installation program will overwrite the
  84. old files with the new versions of these files.  Installing over the
  85. old version in this manner will retain your current configuration
  86. files for use with your newly installed version.  If you choose to
  87. uninstall the previous version, the existing configuration files will
  88. be deleted and you will be required to reconfigure the software with
  89. the options you desire.

  91. ProKon is capable of making many different conversions, both to and 
  92. from metric and Imperial (English) as well as to and from many ancient 
  93. and archaic units. ProKon is capable of over 350,000 different conver-
  94. sions.  ProKon also gives the density of over 625 different materials, 
  95. some common and some not so common.  In addition, ProKon contains a 
  96. periodic table of the elements which allows access to pertinent data
  97. on each element and notebooks full of useful geometric formulas and
  98. constants.  ProKon has help available throughout and all conversions
  99. can be copied to the Windows clipboard for pasting to other documents.

  101. There is a Windows 3.1 version of ProKon available.  It's called SICon 
  102. and is available most places that ProKon is available.  Both versions 
  103. are capable of the same conversions.

  105. Remember, ShareWare is software you can try before you buy.  You are 
  106. entitled to evaluate ProKon for a period of sixty days.  If you try 
  107. ProKon and decide you like it, you are asked to pay the author the 
  108. registration fee of $21.95 + $3.00 shipping/handling.  You will 
  109. receive the latest version registered in your name.  The registered version does not have the advertisement screens you see in the share-
  110. ware version.

  120.                     ShowMe Software License Agreement

  122. 1. Grant of License
  123.  
  124.       a)  This ShowMe Software License Agreement ("License") permits
  125.           the holder of an individual License to use one copy of the
  126.           software program on any single computer, provided the soft-
  127.           ware is in use on only one computer at any time.  If you
  128.           have multiple Licenses for the software, then at any time
  129.           you may have as many copies of the software in use as you
  130.           have Licenses.  A copy of the software is in use when it is
  131.           loaded into memory ("RAM") or when it is loaded onto a per-
  132.           manent memory device such as a hard disk or diskette or other
  133.           similar storage device. It is the user's responsibility to
  134.           ascertain that the number of concurrent users of the software
  135.           will not exceed the number of Licenses.  If a copy of the
  136.           software is loaded onto the hard disk or other storage device
  137.           of a computer that is assigned to one individual, then that
  138.           individual may also use one copy of the software on a port-
  139.           able computer or a home computer.

  141.       b)  This ShowMe Software License Agreement ("License") permits
  142.           the holder of an unlimited site License to use an unlimited
  143.           number of copies of the software on an unlimited number of
  144.           computers at one geographic site.  A geographic site is
  145.           defined as one building or group of buildings that are situ-
  146.           ated on a single contiguous site, said buildings and site
  147.           being owned or leased by a single individual or business
  148.           entity.  If a copy of the software is loaded onto the hard
  149.           disk or other storage device of a computer that is assigned
  150.           to an individual who's place of business or employment is
  151.           located on a geographic site where that business or employer
  152.           holds an unlimited site License, then that individual may also
  153.           use one copy of the software on a portable computer or a home
  154.           computer.

  156. 2. Restrictions

  158.           ShowMe Software and the author stipulate that you may not rent,
  159.           sublease, lease, sell, pledge or otherwise transfer or distri-
  160.           bute the original copy or archival copy of the program. You
  161.           agree not to translate, desassemble, modify, decompile, reverse
  162.           engineer, or create derivative works based on the program or
  163.           any part thereof.  This agreement is automatically terminated
  164.           without notice if any provision of this agreement is breached
  165.           by you.

  169.           This software is owned by ShowMe Software or its suppliers and
  170.           is protected by the United States copyright laws and interna-
  171.           tional treaty provisions.

  174.           You may copy the software for backup purposes, and you may give
  175.           copies of the unregistered version to other individuals, which
  176.           they may also use and copy under the terms of this agreement.
  177.           If you copy the unregistered version of the software for others,
  178.           you must include all of the files distributed with it. The soft-
  179.           ware may not be sold, licensed, or a fee charged for its use.
  180.           If a fee is charged in connection with the unregistered version
  181.           of the software, it must cover the cost of copying or dissemina-
  182.           tion only.  Such charges must be clearly identified as such by
  183.           the originating party.  Under no circumstances may the purchaser
  184.           be given the impression that he is buying the software itself.
  185.           The author encourages BBS operators to post the unregistered
  186.           version of the the software package on their systems for down-
  187.           load by users wishing to evaluate it.  No other reproduction or
  188.           use is authorized without the express prior written consent of
  189.           the copyright owner.

  191. 4. Limited Warranty

  193.         ShowMe Software has attempted to build reasonable safeguards into
  194.         this software. As with any useful computer application, this soft-
  195.         ware may contain errors in the program or documentation. The author
  196.         does not give any warranty, either expressed or implied, to anyone
  197.         using this program other than for the replacement of defective media.
  198.         ShowMe Software does not warrant that your use of this program will
  199.         be uninterrupted or error free. In no event shall the author be 
  200.         liable for any damages, including loss of profits or anticipated
  201.         profits, lost savings, or other incidental or consequential damages
  202.         arising out of the use or inability to use this program.  The program
  203.         comes "as is" and it is the user's responsibility to determine
  204.         whether the program is suitable for his or her computer system and
  205.         software needs. Replacement of the disk(s) containing the program is
  206.         your exclusive remedy and is your sole measure of recoverable damage.
