FaxMail Network for Windows Installation
Installing or reinstalling the shareware version of FaxMail Network for
Windows:
Be sure to get the newest version from our www-page.
Be sure to log on as the administrator.
Be sure that FaxMail has full read/write access.
Be sure the time and date are the same on all computers on the network.
To install FaxMail on Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.xx, use <Start>, <Run>,
<Browse> and browse to the directory where you UnZiped FaxMail and select
INSTALL.EXE. Do not run INSTALL.EXE in any way other than the way just
described.
Install or reinstalling FaxMail without any programs or virus scanners
running in the background. Be sure that, not even, FaxMail is running in
the background. Be sure that the FaxMail INSTALL.EXE has read/write access
to the HardDrive and all files. Otherwise some files may not get copied or
modified. Re-boot immediately after installing.
The install instructions are in the INSTALL.EXE.
Be very careful when asked for this computerÆs HardDrive. This computerÆs
HardDrive should usually be C: drive. If installing on a network you will
select the Server HardDrive later.
If installing on a standalone computer, do nothing. If installing on a
network, the Server HardDrive is the mapped drive that all instances on
FaxMail will be using as their [Server HardDrive]. Do not map to FAXMAILN
directory.
You may need to reinstall all workstations. Be VERY careful when asked for
THIS COMPUTERS HardDrive and then for the SERVER HardDrive. THIS COMPUTERS
HardDrive is normaly C: drive.
If you have mapped the workstation 2 SERVER HardDrive to the
ServerDriveLetter:\FAXMAILN, it will not work. You will need to re-map it
to ServerDriveLetter:\
You can use paths if you are good with mapping directories.
To learn how to map to a directory instead of the root of a server drive,
go to www.ElectraSoft.com, the bottom of [Run FaxMail Network for Windows
as an NT Service] and read the message thread on this subject.
You may want to dedicate a whole server drive to FaxMail.
After final installation:
If you have installed FaxMail two or more times; once on one HardDrive
and once on another, go to the <printers> and be sure that the ?:\TOFAX
port is correct. Where ? is the HardDriveLetter that FaxMail is installed
on.
FaxMail Convert to Fax MUST use ?:\TOFAX as its port!
Be sure you do *NOT* have a directory or file called ?:\TOFAX on the
system.
Do not share the FaxMail Convert to Fax on ?:\TOFAX. Each station has
its own.
All versions of Windows except NT will have the FaxMail Convert to Fax
available now.
If you have Windows NT, go to the Printer-Installer and create the
[FaxMail NT Convert to Fax] as per the FaxMail README instructions. The
section you want to read is called WINDOWS NT.
Thousands of people are using FaxMail. You can too:-)
