Hyperlinks allow you to cross-reference an online document dynamically. If you want to cross-reference a section within an active document, you can add a hyperlink so that users can jump automatically to that section rather than scroll to it.

Creating hyperlinks
WordPerfect lets you create hyperlinks. Hyperlinks can be created that allow readers to jump to a file or to a bookmark within the same document.
If you are publishing to HTML, WordPerfect lets you create a hyperlink that opens in a separate frame.
To create a hyperlink to a file
1 Select text or a graphic.
2 Click Tools Hyperlink.
3 Type a path and filename in the Document/Macro box.
Note
You can use a macro file as a hyperlink. However, because browsers usually cannot play WordPerfect macros, hyperlinks to macros are not recommended in documents that will be published to the Web.
Tips
You can also create a hyperlink to a Web address by typing a URL in the Document/macro box. If you want to browse for the URL, click Browse Web.
You can browse for a file by clicking Browse in the Document/Macro box.
To create a hyperlink to a bookmark
1 Select text or a graphic.
2 Click Tools Hyperlink.
3 Choose a bookmark from the Bookmark list box.

To create a hyperlink that opens in a separate frame
1 Select text or a graphic.
2 Click Tools Hyperlink.
3 Type a path and filename in the Document/Macro box.
If you want to link to a bookmark, choose a bookmark from the Bookmark list box.
4 Type the name of the frame in the Target frame box.
Note

Tips
You can also create a hyperlink to a Web address by typing a URL in the Document/macro box. If you want to browse for the URL, click Browse Web.

Using hyperlinks
Hyperlinks let you dynamically cross-reference information within a document and between documents. WordPerfect allows you to activate hyperlinks within a document so that you can jump from one location to another. You can also navigate between hyperlinks to find the link you need.
You can change and reset the color of hypertext in a WordPerfect document.
You can also change other attributes of the hypertext style. For more information about text styles, see "Applying and editing text styles."
To activate hyperlinks in a document
1 Click Tools Settings.
2 Click Environment.
3 In the Environment settings dialog box, click the General tab.
4 Enable the Activate hyperlinks check box.
Tip
You can deactivate hyperlinks in a document by disabling the Active hyperlinks check box.
To jump to a hyperlink
Click the text or graphic specified as the link.
To navigate between hyperlinks
1 Click Tools Settings.
2 Click Environment.
3 In the Environment settings dialog box, click the General tab.
4 Disable the Activate hyperlinks check box.
5 Click OK.
6 Click a hyperlink.
7 Click any of the following buttons on the property bar:
Hyperlink previous-moves the cursor to the previous hyperlink
Hyperlink next-moves the cursor to the next hyperlink
Tip
If you want to navigate between hyperlinks, you can also right-click a toolbar, click Hyperlink tools, and click the Hyperlink previous or Hyperlink next button on the property bar. For information about using toolbars, see "Customizing toolbars."
To change the color of hypertext
1 Click Format Styles.
2 Choose Hypertext from the Available styles list.
For the Hypertext option to display, the document must contain a hypertext link.
3 Click Edit.
4 In the Styles editor dialog box, click in the Color code in the Contents box.
5 Click Format Font.
6 In the Font properties dialog box, open the Color picker, and click a color.
7 Click OK.
8 Click OK in the Styles editor dialog box.
9 Click Close in the Styles dialog box.

To reset hypertext color to the default settings
1 Click Format Styles.
2 Choose Hypertext from the Available styles list.
For the Hypertext option to display, the document must contain a hypertext link.
3 Click Options Reset.
Notes
All hypertext in a document has the same style.
Changing the hypertext style does not affect the appearance of hypertext buttons.
Editing hyperlinks
When a URL, a bookmark, or the name of a document has changed, you can edit the hyperlink destination. You can also edit the text used for a hyperlink and delete a hyperlink.
To edit a hyperlink
1 Right-click a link.
2 Click Edit hyperlink.
3 Edit the URL or path and filename in the Document/Macro box.
To edit hyperlink text
1 Click Tools Settings.
2 Click Environment.
3 In the Environment settings dialog box, click the General tab.
4 Disable the Activate hyperlinks check box.
5 Click OK.
6 Edit a hyperlink.
Note
When you edit a hyperlink, you deactivate all hyperlinks in a document. For information on activating hyperlinks in a document, see "To activate hyperlinks in a document."
To delete a hyperlink
1 Click Tools Settings.
2 Click Environment.
3 In the Environment settings dialog box, click the General tab.
4 Disable the Activate hyperlinks check box.
5 Click OK.
6 In the Settings dialog box, click Close.
7 Select the button, graphic, or underlined hypertext you want to delete.
8 Press Delete.
Notes
When you delete a hyperlink, you deactivate all hyperlinks in a document. For information on activating hyperlinks in a document, see "To activate hyperlinks in a document."
Deleting a hyperlink deletes the associated text or graphic.
Using SpeedLink
You can use SpeedLink to automatically create hyperlinks in a document, as long as SpeedLink and hyperlinks are activated. When you type text that begins with "www," "ftp," "http," or "mailto," WordPerfect marks that text as hypertext. You can also disable SpeedLink. For information about activating hyperlinks, see "Using hyperlinks."
WordPerfect contains predefined SpeedLink shortcuts. When you type the shortcut in a document, WordPerfect automatically creates a hyperlink. You can also create, edit, and delete SpeedLink entries.
To activate SpeedLink
1 Click Tools QuickCorrect.
2 Click the SpeedLinks tab.
3 Enable the Format words as hyperlinks when you type them check box.
To disable SpeedLink
1 Click Tools QuickCorrect.
2 Click the SpeedLinks tab.
3 Disable the Format words as hyperlinks when you type them check box.
To automatically create links in a document
Type text that begins with "www", "ftp", "http", or "mailto."
WordPerfect marks the SpeedLink text in blue and underlines it.
Note
You must activate SpeedLink before you automatically create links in a document. For information on activating SpeedLink, see To activate Speedlink."
To add a hyperlink using SpeedLink
1 Click Tools QuickCorrect.
2 Click the SpeedLinks tab.
3 Choose a link from the list of registered links.
4 Click Insert entry.
Tip
In a document, you can also type @ followed by a SpeedLink entry you have created. For information on creating a new SpeedLink entry, see "To create a new SpeedLink entry."
To create a new SpeedLink entry
1 Click Tools QuickCorrect.
2 Click the SpeedLinks tab.
3 In the Link word box, type the entry that you want to be linked, followed by a space.
WordPerfect automatically adds @ in front of the SpeedLink entry.
4 In the Location to link to list box, type the destination for the SpeedLink.
5 Click Add entry.
Note
You must type a space after the text for WordPerfect to recognize it as a SpeedLink entry.
Tip
If you want to use quotation marks in the SpeedLink entry, click the SmartQuotes tab, and enable the Use double quotation marks as you type check box.
To edit a SpeedLink entry
1 Click Tools QuickCorrect.
2 Click the SpeedLinks tab.
3 From the list of registered links, choose the entry you want to replace.
4 Select the text in the Link word box.
5 Type a new entry in the Link word box.
6 Click Replace entry.
Tip
If you want to edit the destination of a SpeedLink, select the text in the Location to link to box, and type a new destination.
To delete a SpeedLink entry
1 Click Tools QuickCorrect.
2 Click the SpeedLinks tab.
3 Choose a link from the list of registered links.
