  7. -------------
  8. This is version 4.02.373B of the Diamond SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 Series
  9. Windows 95 Drivers disk. This driver currently supports the following 
  10. Diamond products:
  11.  
  12.         SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 (ISA & PCI)
  13.  
  14.  
  15. ** Important Notice **
  16. ----------------------
  17.  
  18. Please note that you have been provided with a Beta version of our 
  19. Windows 95 SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 driver.  By using this driver, 
  20. you have accepted responsibility for any issues that may develop with 
  21. your computer system once you have installed this driver. 
  22.  
  23. Please note the known driver limitations in this document. 
  24.  
  25. If you experience any problems or difficulties while using this 
  26. driver, please complete the problem report (PDR.TXT)  located on this 
  27. disk. You may fax the problem report (Attention:  Technical Support 
  28. - Diamond Windows 95 SpeedStar 64 Driver) to 408-325-7171,  mail it 
  29. to 2880 Junction Ave., San Jose, CA 95134 or e-mail this document to 
  30. any of Diamond's on-line services. Please do NOT call Diamond's 
  31. Technical Support for difficulties you encounter.  Technical Support 
  32. does not offer direct support for this Beta driver.

  35. Windows 95 Installation Notes
  36. ------------------------------
  37. 1.  Install the VGA driver for Windows 95.
  38.  
  39.         a.  From Windows 95, select Start, select Settings, select 
  40.         Control Panel, then select Display.
  41.  
  42.         b.  Select the Settings tab.
  43.  
  44.         c.  Select Change Display Type.
  45.  
  46.         d.  Select Change... in the Adapter Type section.
  47.  
  48.         e.  Select Show all devices.
  49.  
  50.         f.  Scroll to the top of the Manufacturers window.  Select 
  51.         (Standard display types).
  52.  
  53.         g.  Select Standard Display Adapter (VGA), then select OK.
  54.  
  55.         f.  Select Close.
  56.  
  57.         h.  Select Apply.
  58.  
  59.         i.  Windows 95 will ask that the computer be restarted.  Click
  60.         on Yes to restart the computer.
  61.  
  62. 2.  Preparing for the installation:
  63.         a. If you have downloaded the Diamond SpeedStar 64 Graphics 
  64.        2000 drivers to your hard disk, perform the following:
  65.  
  66.         i.   Create a temporary directory to contain the 
  67.              downloaded file.
  68.         ii.  Execute the file to perform the file 
  69.              decompression.
  70.         iii. Make note of the complete path to INSTALL.EXE.
  71.  
  72.         b. If you have the floppy disk version of the Diamond 
  73.        SpeedStar 64 2000 drivers, place the floppy disk in the 
  74.        drive now.
  75.  
  76. 3.  From Windows 95, select Start, then select Run.
  77.         a. If you are installing a downloaded version of the Diamond 
  78.        SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 Drivers, type the complete path
  79.        to INSTALL.EXE.
  80.  
  81.         Example: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\INSTALL.EXE
  82.  
  83.         b: If you have the floppy version of the Diamond SpeedStar 64 
  84.        Graphics 2000 Drivers, type in the following:
  85.  
  86.         X:\INSTALL.EXE
  87.         Where X is the letter of the floppy drive.
  88.  
  89.     The following command line switches can be used with INSTALL:
  90.  
  91.         /f              This forces a Full installation (Diamond 
  92.             SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 display driver and 
  93.             InControl Tools 95).
  94.  
  95.         /m              This forces a Minimal installation (Diamond 
  96.             SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 display driver 
  97.             only).
  98.  
  99.         /d"drive:\path" This installs InControl Tools 95 into drive:
  100.             \path. Note that the quotes around the drive 
  101.             and path are required, and that either the /f 
  102.             or /m must be used in conjunction with this 
  103.             switch.
  104.  
  105.         /r              This forces a system reboot after 
  106.             installation. Note that either the /f or /m 
  107.             switches must be used in conjunction with this
  108.             switch.
  109.  
  110.         /nr             This prevents a system reboot after 
  111.             installation. Note that either the /f or /m 
  112.             switches must be used in conjunction with this
  113.             switch.
  114.  
  115.         uninstall       This will completely uninstall the Diamond 
  116.             SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 display driver and 
  117.             InControl Tools 95.
  118.  
  119. 4.  From the Diamond Setup dialog box, select Next.
  120.  
  121. 5.  From the Hardware Check dialog box, select Next.
  122.  
  123. 6.  A dialog box will appear containing the path where InControl 
  124.     Tools 95 will be installed.  The default path is:
  125.  
  126.         C:\Program Files\Diamond
  127.  
  128.     Select Next, or change the path as necessary.
  129.  
  130. 7.  The next dialog box selects the installation type.  There are 
  131.     three installation types, Minimal, Full, and Custom.  They are 
  132.     defined as follows:
  133.  
  134.          Minimal:  This will install only the Diamond SpeedStar 64 
  135.            Graphics 2000 display driver.
  136.  
  137.          Full:     This will install both the Diamond SpeedStar 64 
  138.            Graphics 2000 display driver and InControl Tools 
  139.            95.
  140.  
  141.          Custom:   This will allow installation of either the Diamond
  142.                    SpeedStar 64 display driver or InControl Tools 95.
  143.                    At the minimum, the Diamond SpeedStar 64 Graphics 
  144.            2000 display driver must be installed during a 
  145.            first-time installation.
  146.  
  147. 8.  If Custom was selected in step 7, a dialog box will appear 
  148.     allowing selection of various items.  Select the items to be 
  149.     installed by clicking on them with the left mouse button.  When 
  150.     finished, click Next to continue.
  151.  
  152. 9.  At the Select Files to be copied dialog box, click Next to begin 
  153.     the file copy process.
  154.  
  155. 10. After the files have been copied, a Finished Installing dialog 
  156.     box will appear.  Remove the installation diskette from the floppy
  157.     drive, then click Finish.
  158.  
  159. 11. Windows 95 will ask that the computer be restarted.  Click on Yes 
  160.     to restart the computer.
  161.  
  162.  
  163. Selecting A User-Defined Monitor
  164. --------------------------------
  165.  
  166. If your monitor is not listed in the Windows 95 monitor list, you can 
  167. define your monitor's specifications using the Diamond Monitor Wizard.  
  168. To run the Wizard, follow the directions below:
  169.  
  170. 1.  Double click on the InControl Desktop Manager icon in the tray.
  171.  
  172. 2.  From the Display Properties box, select the Settings tab.
  173.  
  174. 3.  Select Change Display Type.
  175.  
  176. 4.  Select Change next to the Monitor Type box.
  177.  
  178. 5.  Select Show All Devices.
  179.  
  180. 6.  Select (User defined monitor types).  User defined monitor
  181.     (InControl Tools 95) should be highlighted in the right side of
  182.     the dialog box.
  183.  
  184. 7.  Click OK.
  185.  
  186. 8.  Click Wizard.  This will launch the Diamond Monitor Wizard.
  187.  
  188.  
  189. Known Issues
  190. -----------------
  191.  
  192. If these drivers are installed from "Have Disk" with the Microsoft 
  193. Cirrus Logic driver already active, the Microsoft driver will 
  194. overwrite the PCI frame buffer address.  The system *MUST* be powered 
  195. down after installing the Diamond SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 Windows 
  196. 95 display driver to remedy this issue.  Note that this issue does not
  197. occur when installing over the Microsoft VGA driver.
  198.  
  199. If these drivers are installed from "Have Disk", the first restart 
  200. will result in Windows 95 coming up in Safe Mode.  You will receive an
  201. error message stating that there is a problem with your display 
  202. settings.  The Display Properties page will appear.  Select Cancel.  
  203. This will let Windows 95 continue to load in Safe Mode.  From the 
  204. Start menu or My Computer, select Control Panel, then select Display, 
  205. then select Settings. Change the color depth to 256 colors or greater 
  206. and restart Windows 95.
  207.  
  208. When installing DirectX applications, a dialog box may appear asking 
  209. if you would like to install a certified DirectX driver.  You should 
  210. select "No", so that the Diamond SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 drivers 
  211. will not be overwritten. The Diamond SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 
  212. drivers will be DirectX-certified as soon as certification begins by 
  213. Microsoft.
  214.  
  215. It is recommend that all screen savers be disabled prior to the 
  216. installation of the Diamond SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 / InControl 
  217. Tools 95 product set.
  218.  
  219. When the Microsoft Office v.4.3 Office Manager splash screen appears, 
  220. the splash screen will be white instead of gray.  Two gray blocks will
  221. also appear in the upper left hand corner of Windows 95.  The gray 
  222. blocks will disappear after the splash screen goes away.  This issue
  223. is being investigated.
  224.  
  225. MechWarrior 2 for Windows 95 will give a black screen if animation 
  226. sequences are run in 640x480 true color mode.  Use 320x200 mode to 
  227. resolve this issue. This problem should be fixed when DirectX 2 is 
  228. released.
  229.  
  230. A General Protection Fault may occur by running After Dark for 
  231. Windows v.3.1. Upgrading to After Dark v.3.2 will resolve this issue.
  232.  
  233. To view the Online Internet Services, your World Wide Web browser 
  234. must be registered with the Windows 95 Registry.
  235.  
  236. Using Microsoft's The Fox and The Bear application in 640x480 16bpp, 
  237. the display will not be correct.  This issue is being investigated.
  238.  
  239. If you encounter problems when setting modes, you may want to try 
  240. one of the Standard Monitor Types in the Monitor Type dialog of the 
  241. Display Properties sheet.
  242.  
  243. With some system configurations opening and printing multiple Excel 
  244. 7.0 documents, then opening a full screen DOS and switching back to 
  245. Windows 95 will cause distorted screens forcing a reboot.
  246.  
  247. With some system configurations using PCI version of card, opening 
  248. a DOS Full Screen session and then pressing Alt-Tab or Alt-Enter 
  249. causes system to hang. This happens intermittently. This issue is 
  250. being investigated.
  251.  
  252. With some BIOSes, you may encounter problems switching between the 
  253. desktop and 320x200 or 320x240 DirectDraw modes.  This issue is 
  254. being investigated.  A BIOS upgrade may address this for you.  See 
  255. below for more information on BIOSes.
  256.  
  257. With some BIOSes, the Diamond SpeedStar 64 Graphics 2000 driver may 
  258. not correctly identify your Diamond display adapter.  A BIOS upgrade 
  259. may address this for you.  See below for more information on BIOSes.
  260.  
  261. The following BIOSes have been tested with the Diamond SpeedStar 64 
  262. Graphics 2000 display driver. Please note that it is NOT necessary to 
  263. have one of the BIOS versions listed below in order to use these 
  264. drivers.  However, if you have an older BIOS and are encountering 
  265. difficulties, it is recommended that you contact Diamond Customer 
  266. Service at 408-325-7100 (option 3) to get the current version of the 
  267. BIOS for your Diamond display adapter:
