-
- Requirements to contact the SPEA Mailbox?
- =========================================
- All you need is a modem connected with your PC and the phone net
- and a terminal software (is mostly contained in the delivery package
- of the modem).
- The box is free for all and no registration is needed.
-
- Which phone number? Which modems are in use?
- ============================================
- * Main Number for 14400 (9600-14400 Baud):
- ------------------------------------------
- Common number (switches through all high speed lines available until a
- free line is detected):
-
- +49-(0)8151/2662 41 (5 lines)
-
- You can also call the lines directly:
- In this case the line may be engaged and you will not be passed on to the
- next free line.
-
- - 92 Fury 19.2 Ti (upto 19200 Baud, L8)
- - 93 Fury 14.4 Ti (upto 14400 Baud, L6)
- - 94 Telebit WorldBlazer (upto 14400 Baud, TurboPEP, L4)
- - 95 Fury 14.4 Ti (upto 14400 Baud, L5)
- - 96 Hayes Optima 14.4 (upto 14400 Baud, L2)
-
- * Main Number for 28.800 (max. 28.800 Baud, v.34):
- -------------------------------------------------
- +49-(0)8151/129 21 (10 lines)
-
- This new lines will be avaibale at the end of 03/95!

- --------------------------
- * When using a Zyxel modem please call the following number:
-
- 08151/211 96 Zyxel U-1496 EG+ (upto 19 200 Baud, L7)
-
- * When using a modem that only offers 2400 baud:
-
- - 97 Fury PC intern (upto 2400 Baud, L3)
-
- * ISDN Line
- ---------
- * Now you also can call the SPEA BBS via ISDN!
-
- 08151/780 01 ISDN line
-
- Use a terminal program that also supports ISDN (i.e. TERMINAT),
- configure for x.75 or v.100 or v.110 and 38400 Baud. Use Zmodem (or
- Zmodem 8k)
-
- How to configure your modem?
- ============================
-
- Configure your modem as follows:
- * 2400, 9600, 14400 or 19200 Baud (depending on modem/line)
-
- * 8 data bits; 1 stop bit; no parity
-
- * Terminal Emulation: ANSI.SYS (Emulatormodus ANSI.BBS)
- also : TTY
-
- * File Transfer Protokol (communication between both modem)
- Zmodem (that we recommanded)
- Ymodem, Ymodem -G
- Xmodem, Xmodem /1k, Xmodem /1k -G
-
- * float control (communication between modem and PC):
- Hardware Handshaking (RTS/CTS)
- ATTENTION! NOT software handshaking (Xon/Xoff)!
-
- * Compression (MNP5, V.42bis): OFF
-
- Availability
- ============
- Daily 24 h online, but daily 3.50 AM upto ca. 4.10 AM there are some
- refresh works.
-
-
- Problems concerning the connection
- ==================================
- P: You are using ISDN and you could not get a connection to our ISDN line.
- A: - Don't use the common ISDN software (Verzeichnis holen, Directory) but
- use a terminal program that supportsISDN (i.e. shareware TERMINAT, available
- in the SPEA BBS).
- - Load x.75 or v.100/v.110 and configure for 38400 baud. Use Zmodem (8k).
-
- P: You have a 2400 baud connection only, although your modem supports
- higher speeds.
- A: - If the lines are very bad the modem will set the speed on lower level
- automatically to get an error-free connection.
- Please call again to get a better line or call later when phone net is
- not so busy.
-
- P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) this connection is
- lost.
- A: - Check the basics adjustments of your modem as described in the bulletin
- 'How to configure your modem?'.
- - Don't use the main number -41 but call the lines directly (see above).
- - If you work on a modem that supports 2400 Baud only please only use the
- phone number -97 to make sure that you have no connection with highspeed
- modems. Some 2400 baud modems have problems to communicate with HS modems.
- - When using a Zyxel modem please only call 08151/21196. This lines
- connects you as well with a Zyxel modem and so you will get a better
- connection.
-
- P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get AT commands
- on your screen.
- A: - The called modem was just in initializing, please call again.
-
- P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get undefined chars
- on your screen.
- A: - Maybe these faults are caused by bad lines. Please call again to get a
- better line or call later when phone net is not so busy.
- - The chars appears like impulses? Please check whether there are any
- impulse counter is connected with your phone line.
-
- P: Special chars (e.g. menu frames, lines,..) are not displayed as such ones
- but as characters or control chars.
- A: -The terminal emulation you have chosen in configuring your modem is wrong.
- Select ANSI.BBS (see bulletin 'basis adjustings'). Note: ANSI.SYS has to
- be loaded via CONFIG.SYS.
- -For customers who use the Windows 3.1 tool TERMINAL.EXE: This software
- offers no terminal emulation that shows all ansi sequeces correctly. To
- work nevertheless with this program and our mailbox please select
- 'DEC VT-100 (ANSI)'. Using this emulation the lines, frames,.. are dis-
- played with characters - not correct but readable. So you can altthough
- work with the menus.
- If you want to have a really correct display you have to use another
- terminal software.
-
- Possible problems concerning the download
- =========================================
- P: There is no succesful download: Sending file process will not be started.
- ("No files to send").
- A: - You are in the wrong file area now and the file that you desire so cannot
- be found in this file area. (e.g. you want to downlaod FIRE_WIN.EXE but
- you are momentary in the area 'FIRE AutoCAD Driver'). -> The current file
- area is displayed in the download menu, right, on the top!
- Using 'B - List of files in the current area' you can check, whether the
- desired file is available in this file area with the used name.
- -You have not entered the right file name (error in entering).
- -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you
- have selected in your modem configuration.
- If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
- Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
- -There are some modems that needs pressing the >PageDown< or >Bild ab<
- key to start the file transfer. So press this key when you have entered >S<
- for 'Start transfer...'.
- IMPORTANT: Especially with 2400 modem you must be patient - the modems
- need some time for initializing!
- - Please check: Does the named destination directory exist? Is there
- enough space? Do you have rights to write in this directory (network!).
-
-
- P: There is no succesful download: The sending process is cancelled.
- A: -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you
- have selected in your modem configuration.
- If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
- Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
- - Select in YOUR modem software Hardware Handshaking (RTS/CTS) as float
- control protocol (communication between your modem and your PC)
- Do NOT select software Float Control (Xon/Xoff)!
- - Deactivate "Compressing data" (V42.bis), all files are already packed
- files. Further compressing is not possible and there may occure problems
- or time delays caused by the vain attempts to compress the files.
- - check the speed modem - COM port: If you have the UART chip type
- 8250/16450 you can only use speeds upto 9600 bit/s. For HS modems you
- better use the chip type 16550 - so are bit rates of 38400 and also 57600
- bit/s possible! Use COMTEST (available in our mailbox) to check your
- COM port chip on COM 1 / COM 2.
-
- SPEA in CompuServe
- ------------------
- From now on you also can reach SPEA via CompuServe erreichbar: GO SPEA.
- There - in this worldwide medium - you can also download the most current
- drivers and utilities for all SPEA products.
- Only requirement: You have already CompuServe access (authorization, modem).
