  5. *** Standard Installation ***
  6.  
  7. Follow this easy one-time installation procedure:
  8.  
  9. 1) Create a directory to hold the Raven related files.  The
  10. recommended directory name (used in the following instructions) is
  11. "C:\Raven".
  12.  
  13. 2) Copy all Raven-related files to this directory.  At a minimum
  14. you need the following files:  
  15. Raven.EXE
  16. Raven.HLP
  17. Raven.Wav
  18. bricks3.bmp
  19. bricks4.bmp
  20. bricks5.bmp
  21. NewUser.Txt
  22. help.ico
  23. missing.ico
  24. Raven.ico
  25. twice.ico
  26. vbrun.ico
  27. weather.ico
  28. vbrun.txt
  29. srce0001.txt
  30. faq.txt
  31. weather.txt
  32.  
  33. 3) Note:  You will also need a copy of VBRUN300.DLL.  This file is
  34. available within many CompuServe forums. To obtain this file from
  35. CompuServe, GO WINUTIL and search for the file VBRUN3.ZIP.
  36.  
  37. 4) You may optionally copy the following files to C:\Raven:
  38.    CMDIALOG.VBX   
  39.    THREED.VBX
  40.    SSIDXTAB.VBX
  41.  
  42. Note:  It is possible that you may have existing copies of these files
  43. within your WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory or within other directories
  44. on your system.  These files are used by many different applications both
  45. from shareware and commercial companies.  The proper location for these
  46. files is within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  Caution, before you copy
  47. these files to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, you should use the Windows
  48. File Manager to see if copies of these files already exist.

  50. If these files are not present within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, you
  51. may simply copy them into it and proceed to step 5. 
  52.  
  53. If versions of any of the files are already on your computer, you should
  54. use the Windows File Manager to look at each file's date & time to determine
  55. if the existing version is newer than the files included within the 
  56. RAVEN.ZIP file.  If your existing files are newer, The Raven should
  57. work just fine with them and you can proceed to step 5.
  58.  
  59. If the Raven files are newer, you should move your original files
  60. to a temporary directory in case you encounter problems with other
  61. software and need to get them back.  
  62.  
  63. Once you have moved the older files to a temporary location, you may
  64. copy the The Raven supplied versions to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  65. Note:  Once The Raven is installed and running, you can use it's ability
  66. to peek inside files and view the file's version information.  This will 
  67. generally confirm which one is the older version.
  68.  
  69. 4) Use the Windows Program Manager to place The Raven within an
  70. existing program group or create a new group and then add the program
  71. to it.  Refer to your Windows' documentation on adding new programs
  72. and groups.  
  73.  
  74. That's all there is to installing The Raven. 
  75.  
  76. Remember that while The Raven is active, online help is always
  77. available by pressing the F1 key.
  78.  
  79. Common installation problems:  
  80. Many of today's applications include components from other 3rd party
  81. distributors.  These components are like snap-together parts.
  82. When an application is initially designed, the programmer
  83. is probably using the latest version of all of the components his
  84. application needs.  Over time, these components may be enhansed to
  85. include new features and capabilities.  A frequent problem occurs when
  86. a newer application makes use of features that were not available
  87. in earlier version of the software.  This can cause problems when
  88. multiple versions of these components exist on your computer. 
  89. Please refer to the following list of files and eliminate older
  90. version if possible.  
  91.    RAVEN.EXE  
  92.    CMDIALOG.VBX  
  93.    THREED.VBX 
  94.    SSIDXTAB.VBX

  97. SYMPTOM:  A GPFault occurs when you launch the program.  Normally, this
  98. will be the result of a conflict with some aspect of The Raven and
  99. your video card.  The module that reports the fault will have a file
  100. extension of .DRV and most likely, you will be using a driver with more
  101. than 256 colors.
  102. CURE:  Make sure that you are using the latest driver.  Contact your video 
  103. card manufacturer.  If this does not fix it, try adjusting the number of
  104. colors used up or down as well as adjusting the resolution. If this still
  105. does not correct the problem, use the standard VGA drivers which ship
  106. with Windows.

  111. This program requires Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups.
