  6. To get started with your evaluation of DataImport for Windows, double
  7. click on the DataImport RoboTour icon in the DataImport program group.
  8. The RoboTour will walk you through a demonstration of DataImport and its
  9. data translation utilities.

  11. The RoboTour is NOT a slide show! The tour uses the Test Drive Version
  12. of DataImport to give its presentation and you can use your own files
  13. with the Test Drive after the tour! So, take the tour and find out how
  14. DataImport provides real solutions to your data translation needs!

  18. (For best results, we recommend running RoboTour with a 386-33Mhz or
  19. faster PC with 8MB RAM. This recommendation is for the RoboTour only;

  24. The following text provides information about the DataImport 4.0 for
  25. Windows Test Drive and the DataImport RoboTour.

  94. If you wish to remove DataImport from your computer, check the file
  95. INSTALL.LOG located in the directory that contains the DataImport
  96. program files.  INSTALL.LOG lists which files were loaded onto your
  97. system and which were not.  If a file was not loaded, it was because the
  98. file already existed on your computer and was the same version or later.
  99.  
  100. The files in the last section above are Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs)
  101. and Visual Basic Extensions (VBXs), which may be shared by multiple
  102. software programs.  Some of these files may have been copied to your
  103. system when DataImport was installed.  If you delete any of these files
  104. you may get an error message when running other software that was
  105. installed after DataImport.  That software could be using a DLL that
  106. DataImport installed.  You would then have to install the file(s) from
  107. the diskettes provided by the other software program.
  108.  
  109. To limit the amount of disk space taken, the Test Drive does not ship
  110. with all of the DLLs required for all of the output types.  The
  111. additional DLLs can be downloaded from our section on Compuserve.  Below
  112. is a list of the output types and the files that must be downloaded to
  113. output to that type:

  115.      Excel 5.0           XLDLL.ZIP
  116.      Access 1.1 & 2.0    ACCDLL.ZIP
  117.      Paradox 3.5 & 4.0   PDXDLL.ZIP

  119. After downloading the ZIP file, unzip the files using PKZIP 2.04g or
  120. equivalent and move the files into your Windows "SYSTEM" directory.
  121.  
  122. You may not need to download these files to use DataImport with your
  123. spreadsheet or database.  Excel 5.0 will read Excel 2.1, 3.0 & 4.0 as
  124. well as Lotus 1-2-3 files.  Access can use dBase files directly; and
  125. Paradox will import dBase files.

  128. New Features:
  129.  
  130. DataImport 4.0 for Windows has some additional features not available in
  131. DataImport 3.0 for DOS (the most current DOS version of the product).
  132.  
  133.   -  The configuration information is now held in the DIW.INI file (in
  134.      the WINDOWS directory) instead of the DICONFIG.DAT file (in the DOS
  135.      path).
  136.  
  137.   -  The International, Date and Signed overpunch settings are now held
  138.      in each mask file.  From the mask screen you can change the
  139.      settings for the mask, save the settings to be the defaults, or
  140.      load the default settings from the INI file.
  141.  
  142.   -  DataImport now has a Pause and Resume feature.  When a Pause match
  143.      string is found in the Input File, no Include or Global Value lines
  144.      will be output until a Resume match string is found.  However, any
  145.      lines with a line treatment, such as Titles, Values and Headings,
  146.      will be output normally.  When a Resume string is defined, you can
  147.      select whether to start the translation in Pause mode or un-Paused
  148.      (default).  This selection can be changed from the Options Global
  149.      dialog box.

  151.   -  DataImport can now unstack lines in the Mask application based on a
  152.      match string.  When defining the match string, you also define the
  153.      number of lines to be unstacked.  This number includes the line on
  154.      which  the Unstack match string occurs and the number of lines to
  155.      be unstacked that follow it.  Each unstacked line is padded out to
  156.      the length of the widest unstacked line in the input file.  This
  157.      length is stored with the mask so that when you read another input
  158.      file, that may have different length records, the padding will
  159.      always be the same.

  162. Translation Types:

  164.   -  Excel 5.0:
  165.  
  166.      You can set the sheet name on the Options Global dialog box.  The
  167.      default sheet name is "Sheet1".  If you are appending or file-
  168.      combining into an existing Excel 5 workbook, the sheet name must
  169.      exist.

  171.   -  Lotus 5.0 for Windows
  172.  
  173.      Lotus 5.0 uses the same file format (.WK4) as Lotus 4.0 for
  174.      Windows.

  177. RoboTour TroubleShooting:
  178.  
  179.   -  When running the RoboTour on a 386-33Mhz or slower machine, the
  180.      tour may pause after moving the cursor. If a prompt box does not
  181.      appear or the action stops for more than 10 seconds, hold down
  182.      [Ctrl] and press [F12] to continue the tour.
