  1.            Installing Document Conversion Manager
  2.            ======================================

  4. System requirements     This section describes the hardware,
  5.                         system, printer driver, and memory
  6.                         requirements for using Document
  7.                         Conversion Manager. 
  8.  
  9. Hardware                Document Conversion Manager requires the
  10.                         following hardware : 
  11.                         A 386-, or 486-based computer certified
  12.                         for use with MS-Windows version 3.x, or
  13.                         IBM OS/2 v2.x with full Windows
  14.                         support.
  15.                         A 1.2Mb 5¼" disk drive, or a 1.44Mb 3½"
  16.                         disk drive.
  17.                         A Microsoft Windows compatible mouse. 
  18.  
  19. System software         To use Document Conversion Manager you
  20.                         must have Microsoft Windows 3.x OR IBM
  21.                         OS/2 v 2.0 installed on your computer. 
  22.  
  23. Memory                  Document Conversion Manager requires a
  24.                         minimum of 512Kb of RAM to operate in
  25.                         Windows version 3.x enhanced mode.
  26.                         Document Conversion Manager will not 
  27.                         operate in Windows Real mode.

  29. Disk space              Document Conversion Manager requires 
  30.                         2 Mb of disk space to install correctly.

  33. Installation            You install Document Conversion Manager
  34.                         from the Microsoft Windows version 3.x
  35.                         Program Manager running under DOS 3.3 or
  36.                         higher. The Install program transfers the
  37.                         Document Conversion Manager program files
  38.                         to your hard disk, and configures Document 
  39.                         Conversion Manager for use with WP
  40.                         applications and printers. 
  41.                         The directions that follow assume that you
  42.                         are performing a Workstation installation,
  43.                         and starting the Install program from a
  44.                         high-density drive A.  If you start from a
  45.                         different drive, substitute the letter of
  46.                         that drive. 
  47.                         Install will need to know the location of
  48.                         the work-station WP applications. If you
  49.                         are installing for use with Wordperfect,
  50.                         Install will need to know the location of
  51.                         the WordPerfect printer drivers. These
  52.                         files will have a .PRS or .WRS extension.
  53. Running Install         If the installation directory does not
  54.                         exist, Install will create it for you.
  55.                        
  56.                       - Insert the Program diskette in drive A and
  57.                         close the door. 
  58.                       - Open the Windows Program Manager. 
  59.                       - Choose File/Run. 
  60.                       - Type A:\ INSTALL 
  61.                       - Choose OK 
  62.  
  63. The Install program prompts you for   
  64.  
  65. -  the drive and directory where you want to install 
  66.    Document Conversion Manager. 
  67. -  The conversion READERS and WRITERS that you wish 
  68.    to install. 
  69. Install assumes that you will be installing all READERS and
  70. WRITERS. If you don't want to install everything, highlight those
  71. READERS and WRITERS not to be installed and press REMOVE. 
  72. -  Press OK when finished.

  76. Install will display a list of Startable Applications
  77. corresponding to the WRITERS being installed.  These applications are : 
  78. Lotus  Ami Pro v2 & v3              AMIPRO.EXE 
  79. WordPerfect for Windows v5.2        WPWIN.EXE 
  80. Microsoft Word for Windows v1 & v2  WINWORD.EXE

  82. Install will search the system PATH and Windows environment to try
  83. and locate the applications. If successful, the application path
  84. will be displayed. If unsuccessful, you will need to enter the
  85. path to the application with the application name, if you want to
  86. launch documents as they are converted.

  88. WORDPERFECT             If you are installing the WordPerfect
  89.                         WRITER, Install will need to know the
  90.                         location of your WordPerfect printer
  91.                         files. These files will have either a .PRS 
  92.                         or .WRS extension. Without these files
  93.                         Document Conversion Manager may not run,
  94.                         or may produce badly formatted documents.
  95.                         If WordPerfect is not installed on your
  96.                         work-station, Install will configure
  97.                         Document Conversion Manager to produce
  98.                         WordPerfect documents with a "vanilla" 
  99.                         printer driver and default Courier, Times
  100.                         and Helvetic typefaces.

  102. Install will prompt you for the work-station WP format.
  103. Install will transfer the appropriate files to the specified
  104. directory, and setup default .INI files in your Windows directory.
  105. These files are : 
  106.  
  107. DCM.INI,     which tells Document Conversion Manager 
  108.              which READERS and WRITERS are available, 
  109.              the location of applications and whether 
  110.              they are set startable, the setup values 
  111.              for each pairing, and the work-station WP. 
  112.  
  113. ???PRN.INI,  which contains printer definitions and 
  114.              font mapping definitions for each READER. 
  115.              The first three characters represent the 
  116.              READER. 
  117.  
  118. ???FONT.INI, which provides the READER fonts/typestyles
  119.              definitions.

  121. Install will setup associations for the following file extensions
  122. according to the READERS being installed:  
  123.              .DOC =  
  124.              .RFT =  
  125.              .WP5 =     [drive][path]DCM2.EXE 
  126.              .UPX = 
  127.              .OPW = 
  128.              .SAM =

  130. Follow the Windows File Manager instructions to setup additional
  131. associations, or to change existing associations.

  133. The Install program will create a "Pembroke Applications" Program
  134. Group containing the Document Conversion Manager icon, on your 
  135. desk-top.

  138.      You must go through the SETUP procedures before converting
  139.      documents. 
  140.      Not using SETUP to ensure that font mapping and an output
  141.      device are correctly defined may result in badly formatted
  142.      documents.

  147. SERVER INSTALLATION
  148. ===================
  149. Install copies all files to the server drive and directory
  150. specified. You must then run NODESET.EXE from each workstation
  151. requiring conversion.

  153. If you are running OS/2 over a Novell network there may be
  154. problems associated with a WIN-OS2 session that cause the
  155. installation process to terminate the WIN-OS2 session. However 
  156. all the necessary files will be installed on the server. 
  157. You will need to re-start your WIN-OS2 session to run NODESET.EXE.
