Countdown for Windows/DOS
version 1.0
(C) 1995 Jeremy Lilley
Readme / Quick Doc file
Thank you for obtaining Countdown! This file is relatively
short but important to use Countdown.
Countdown can count up or down to any date or time, and
it includes many flexible options and even math functions to
allow many things like birthdays, anniversaries, retirement,
ends of political or military service, etc. to be displayed.
Try running Countdown in Windows and open the various example
files included to see some of what it can do.
This package contains two main files, COUNT.EXE, which
displays Countdown files, and CNTEDIT.EXE, the Countdown file
editor. COUNT.EXE runs as a normal Windows program in Windows
but also as a DOS program in DOS, so you can use Countdown on
your Windows desktop or in batch files. A capture option from
DOS will even let you grab the text into a file to use for a
BBS-type application.
Countdown files, which end in .DAT, consist of text that
is displayed plus comments and commands in percentage signs (%).
You can use the Windows editor to edit files, but I recommend
looking at the sample files and reading a bit first because the
files are not completely intuitive. In between two percentage
signs, there will be either a REM to start a comment or something
like "days since 1/1/95" which is detailed in the reference. You
can just click the field edit option in the Windows editor to
edit these commands. The example files are extensive enough that
you can just change the date or text to make it fit.
Countdown is shareware, but only $10. For that $10, you
get a code to remove the starting screen from the Windows
version and, optionally, I can add you to my email list to
mail you updates free. If you are a Compuserve member, you
can register online (SWREG) and get your key even faster.
Thank you for your support!
