  5. WinLab is a powerful Image Processing tools able to satisfy the needs of both 
  6. inexperienced and advanced users.  Besides the opportunity of managing a 
  7. number of different image formats, including the JPEG compression standard, 
  8. WinLab also offers a wide choice of advanced processing tools.
  9. WinLab supports any kind of image format up to 24 bpp full color images,
  10. 8 bpp grayscale,256 colors.
  11. WinLab can perform: 
  12. color correction/calibration, color format conversion (HSL, HSV, YUV, YIQ, 
  13. CMYK, etc), on-line color palette changes (loading, saving), histogram 
  14. equalization stretching  specification, contrast/intensity change (many 
  15. color spaces), resizing, rotation, zooming, color dithering (many algorithms),
  16. bit per pixel conversion, color channels split/merge (many color spaces), 
  17. filtering (user defined masks, low/high pass, crispening, blurring, 
  18. directional, autoregressive, edge preserving, etc), noise addition (gaussian,
  19. uniform), edge detection (many), edge thinning, segmentation, classification, 
  20. image operations (add,sub,blend, etc), image masking, and many others.
  21. WinLab fully supports floating selection inside images (rectangular,elliptical,
  22. segment/freehand, magic wande), each operation is transparently applied to the 
  23. whole image or to the selection if any.
  24. WinLab has supports tools bars for fast command access and floating selection 
  25. operations.
  26. The speed aspects have been carefully taken into account during the 
  27. implementation of every WinLab module, from the access to image data to the 
  28. more complex processing tools.
  29. Many instruments have been introduced to improve the accessibility to the 
  30. system functionalities even to less experienced users

  32. The processing tools have been designed to have good performances in terms of 
  33. speed/accurateness.
  34. The interface of WinLab has been designed in order to be easy-to-use, 
  35. configurable, ergonomic, compliant to windows standard.
  36. The introduction of image folders gives the possibility to easily manage and 
  37. access collections of images in different formats and in different places by 
  38. an immediate and transparent interface.
  39. WinLab has a built-in network support (any NETBIOS compatible layer) for 
  40. folders, which enables to share images over a LAN in a transparent way, 
  41. moreover you can send and receive an image or a folder through the use of the 
  42. netproto.exe DDE server which is a window socket compliant application.

  44. WinLab rely on the PhD TWAIN DDE server to fully support TWAIN compliant source
  45. handling, enabling image acquisition from any kind of device which is TWAIN 
  46. compatible.
