  7. INTRODUCTION:
  8.  
  9. Graphics Developer With Slide Show (GDWSS) is an application 
  10. designed to help you browse, search, find, create, view, 
  11. enhance, convert, and print your picture files. You can crop 
  12. it, adjust the shading, size, orientation, placement on the 
  13. page, aspect ratio, and save an ordered list of files to display
  14. again or as a screen saver.  You can even reduce the color 
  15. content and convert color images to gray scale images for 
  16. laser printing.  GDWSS works with many different kinds of 
  17. picture file types such as TIFF, GIF, JPEG, PICT, Raster, 
  18. Targa, Bitmap, and more.

  20. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

  22.  * Microsoft Windows 3.1 and DOS 5.3 or higher
  23.  * A hard disk and a mouse
  24.  * 486/25 MHz or higher recommended
  25.  * A minimum of 4 Meg of RAM; 8 Meg recommended
  26.  * Approximately 1.5 Meg of hard disk space
  27.  * To edit images, you'll need Windows PaintBrush or 
  28.    another graphics editor program

  59. INSTALLING GDWSS:
  60.  
  61. If you received one compressed file:
  62.  
  63.   1) Unzip GDWSS.ZIP or run GDWSS.EXE from DOS or Windows 
  64.      File Manager to expand the files.  
  65.  
  66. If you received a disk with all of the compressed files
  67. or after expanding the files:
  68.  
  69.   2) Run SETUP.EXE which will uncompress the files and install 
  70.      GDWSS to the default or selected directory and create icons 
  71.      in Program Manager.
  72.  
  73. The following files are installed in the same directory:

  90. MSGBLAST.VBX.

  115. GDWSS is written in Visual Basic Ver 3.0.  You will need 
  116. the runtime DLL for Visual Basic: VBRUN300.DLL.  This may
  117. not come with your copy but can be downloaded from most

  126. GETTING STARTED:
  127.  
  128. To begin using Graphics Developer With Slide Show double click 
  129. on the GDWSS icon in Program Manager created by GDWSS SETUP.EXE 
  130. or double click on GDWSS.EXE in File Manager.  
  131.  
  132. Graphics Develeper and Slide Show are combined into one program.
  133. You can create two seperate icons in Program Manager, one to 
  134. start Slide Show directly and one to start Graphics Developer 
  135. directly.  To have the Slide Show form come up first use 
  136. "GDWSS.EXE /SS" in the command line.  To have Graphics Developer 
  137. come up first use "GDWSS.EXE" or "GDWSS.EXE /DEV" in the command 
  138. line.  You can also follow GDWSS.EXE with a path and file name 
  139. and Graphics developer will be first to start with that picture 
  140. file.  See GDWSS.HLP for more information on using GDWSS.

  142. The Graphics Developer Screen Saver is copied to your Windows
  143. directory.  To run it you must go to the Windows Control
  144. Panal, click on Desktop and choose "GDWSS Scrn Svr" from the
  145. list.  Use the Setup button to specify which .SSG gallery file
  146. you want to use.

  162. UPGRADES

  164. Registered users of GDWSS will receive a free upgrade to version
  165. 2.6.  You should receive instructions on how to receive your
  166. upgrade in the mail.  If you do not receive it, send me an E-mail
  167. or a letter and we will take care of it.

  170. UNINSTALL
  171.  
  172. To uninstall Graphics Developer, run UNINSTAL.BAT located
  173. in the directory GDWSS.EXE is located.  You may need to
  174. edit the file if you specified a location other than
  175. C:\GDWSS.  You can also manually deleting the program files 
  176. listed above.  You probably do not want to delete CMDIALOG.VBX, 
  177. THREED.VBX, or COMMDLG.DLL from your Windows\System direcory.  
  178. They may be used by other programs.  
  179.

  181. SHAREWARE/REGISTRATION:
  182.  
  183. Graphics Developer With Slide Show is a shareware program.  
  184. You may use it for a trial period of up to 30 days.  After that 
  185. time, you must register your copy of the program.  The 
  186. registration fee is $25.  Registered users will receive the very 
  187. latest version of the program, notification of future releases,
  188. and full online support.
  189.  
  190. To register your copy: run the program and when the About form 
  191. is displayed, click on the Register button and a registration 
  192. form will be displayed.  Click on the Print Topic button to 
  193. print out a registration form.  Fill out the registration form 
  194. and mail it with your payment to the address on the form.  You
  195. will be mailed the most recent, registered version of Grahics 
  196. Developer.  If you do not use the registration form, send your 
  197. name and address and check or money order to:

  218. TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS:
  219.  
  220. 1. Format conversion problems - some formats will not convert to 
  221. others.  Try reducing the number of colors, changing palettes, 
  222. or going to greyscale.  For example to convert from .BMP to .JPG 
  223. or be able to use the FILTER functions, first convert the .BMP 
  224. to Class "True Color" or "Grayscale", then you can use FILTERS 
  225. and /or "Save As" with a .JPG extension.
  226.  
  227. 2. If you want to convert your pictures so you can edit them with 
  228. Windows Paint Brush first make sure you convert the image class 
  229. to Palette, if it isn't already, using the Development Toolbar 
  230. "Convert" option.  Then use SaveAs .PCX or .BMP no compression.
  231.  
  232. 3. If you bring up the .JPG files you received with GDWSS and 
  233. they look grainy or off color, you can try to load a different 
  234. display driver with more colors and/or a higher resolution.  You 
  235. do this by running C:\WINDOWS\SETUP.EXE.
  236.  
  237. 4. Using full screen slide show with icons from the file list may 
  238. not work correctly if the "Keep Existing Graphics" options is 
  239. set.  Turn this option off (located on the setup form) and try 
  240. again. 
  241.  
  242. 5. Gallery printing may not work with some HP printers.  If you 
  243. have this problem, let me know and I will send you an update when 
  244. the fixes are made to the HGC.VBX.
  245.  
  246. 6. If you get an error during installation about not being able
  247. to load DDEMD.DL_, don't worry about it.  You already have it
  248. in your system.  Click OK to continue the intallation.
  249.  
  250. 7. If you install all GDWSS files to the same directory and
  251. get a file not found error, re-run GDWSS SETUP.EXE and select
  252. the "copy to WINDOWS/SYSTEM" option or you can copy all VBX and 
  253. DLL files in the GDWSS directory to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM 
  254. directory and try again.  
  255.  
  256. 8. GDWSS uses a lot of system resources.  If it is running too 
  257. slow or graphics are taking too long to load, your system may not 
  258. have enough horsepower to run this application.
  259.  
  260. 9. Memory Problems - Even at 8 Meg you can run into memory 
  261. problems with this application since it is graphics intensive.  
  262. 12 Meg or higher seems to work best.  If you have 8 Meg or less, 
  263. limit the number of thumbnails you create and display.  Do not 
  264. do a Find Files using a pattern of *.* which searches the entire 
  265. hard drive.
  266.  
  267. 10. GDWSS currently only supports writing to the Postscript (.EPS)
  268. graphics format.  It will not read and display them.  
  269.  
  270. 11. If you use large or high resolution graphics for your screen
  271. saver, your PC might lock up due to lack of resources.  Be careful
  272. how you set this up.
  273.

  275. LICENSE INFORMATION:
  276.  
  277. Each copy of the program may be used on only one computer at any 
  278. one time.  If used on a network system, each user is considered 
  279. to be using a distinct copy of the licensed program whether or 
  280. not he or she is actually using it.
  281.  
  282. SKISOFT, Inc. warrants that for a period of ninety days 
  283. from the date of delivery of the licensed program, the program, 
  284. if unmodified by the Licensee, will perform in substantial 
  285. conformity with the user documentation.  SKISOFT, Inc. does not 
  286. warrant that the licensed program is free from coding errors.  
  287. Any modifications to the licensed program shall thereafter be 
  288. licensed AS IS.
  289.  
  290. The above warranty does not apply to the extent that any
  291. failure of the licensed program to perform as warranted is caused 
  292. by the licensed program being (1) not used in accordance with the 
  293. user documentation, or (2) modified by any person other than 
  294. authorized SKISOFT, Inc. personnel.

  296. LICENSOR MAKES AND LICENSEE RECEIVES NO OTHER WARRANTY OF ANY 
  297. KIND, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION,

  302. damage arising out of the use of the licensed program or

  306. project which is the subject of such claim or damage.
