  25.   The DivX Player is the official player application for DivX(R) video content.
  26.   The DivX(R) codec (compressor-decompressor) is an extremely high quality,
  27.   MPEG-4 based video codec that is gaining popularity as the "MP3 of video."

  29.   You may use the DivX Player to play content encoded in versions 3.11 alpha
  30.   and later of the DivX codec, including AVI-based and DivX MPEG-4 based file
  31.   formats. The application will also play other video and audio content stored
  32.   in AVI files, as well as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and Windows Media Video stored in
  33.   the ASF file format.

  50.   The DivX Player requires the following minimum configuration to run:

  52. * Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
  53. * Pentium-II 450 MHz or faster processor 
  54. * At least 64 MB of RAM  
  55. * 8 MB (or greater) video card  
  56. * 3 MB free hard drive space
  57.   
  58.   (NOTE: Additional hard drive space will be required for downloaded
  59.   movies)

  61.   You must also have DirectX version 3.0 or later installed for the DivX
  62.   Player to operate properly. You can download the latest version of
  63.   DirectX at <http://www.microsoft.com/directx>.

  66. Installation instructions

  69.   The DivX Player is optionally installed as a part of the DivX or 
  70.   DivX Pro video software bundle, or the Mastermind software bundle. 
  71.   Follow the installation instructions for those products to install 
  72.   the DivX Player.

  74.   **Which files are installed?**

  76.   The DivX Player installer installs the following files on your system:

  78. * DivX Player 2.1.exe        (The DivX Player Application) 
  79. * README.txt            (This README file) 
  80. * License.txt            (The License agreement of this software) 
  81. * DivXPlayerATIPlugin.dll    (Optionally installed when certain ATI hardware
  82.                  is present)
  83. * Skins                (The skins folder containing the included skins)
  84. * Movies            (A movies folder to store downloaded movies)

  86.   **Uninstalling the DivX Player**

  88.   Go to Start menu in Windows, go to Programs->DivX Player->
  89.   Uninstall DivX Player.

  92. DivX Player walk-through
  93. ------------------------

  95.   The default DivX Player interface consists of seven main buttons. These are:
  96.   Rewind, Stop, Play/Pause, Fast Forward, Fullscreen Mode, and Open. Volume
  97.   control is situated on a slider bar.

  99.   Right clicking your mouse anywhere on the DivX Player, or clicking the
  100.   "Menu" button at the upper left of the Player window will open a menu of
  101.   options, described below:

  103. * Open...
  104.   Opens a video file for playback. (As a shortcut, you can also use the Ctrl+O
  105.   hotkey, or click the Open button in the bottom right corner.
  106.  
  107. * Open URL...
  108.   Accepts an HTTP URL and attempts to download and play the file located
  109.   at that location.
  110.  
  111. * Change Playback Mode -> Compact Mode and Fullscreen Mode
  112.   Lets you view your video in one of these modes. Compact mode is a small
  113.   screen and Fullscreen Mode maximizes the video and plays on top of all other
  114.   open windows. Window modes may be changed by right-clicking on the window
  115.   and selecting a new window mode (or returning to normal mode).

  117. * Set Aspect Ratio -> TV / Wide / Custom / Free
  118.   These settings allow you to fix the playback aspect ratio to TV (4:3), Wide
  119.   (16:9), or custom (user defined) ratios. Once the aspect ratio is fixed, any
  120.   resizing of the window will be constrained to that aspect ratio. Selecting
  121.   the Free option allows the user to click and drag the bottom right hand
  122.   corner of the Player and resize the window free of any aspect ratio
  123.   constraints.

  125. * Change Video Size -> Normal / Half / Double
  126.   The Change Video Size option lets the user alter the size of DivX Player to
  127.   Half Size, Original Size and Double Size.

  129. * Choose Player Skin...
  130.   Opens the skin browser and lets the user preview and select skins that are
  131.   installed in the Skins directory.

  133. * Options...
  134.   Allows you to set the default post processing level for video playback.

  137.   Supplies copyright and version information about this version of the DivX
  138.   Player.  Also provides a listing of keyboard shortcuts.

  141.   Pops up a dialog box that allows the user to register for the DivX
