  32. A) Notes and knows problems
  33.  
  34.    Please also read the notes in Appendix B - Troubleshooting in the Hardware 
  35.    User manual.

  38.    Installation of the Windows 3.1x driver
  39.  
  40.    Important! 
  41.    Different to the manual the Intel ICU Plug & Play Utility is NOT delivered 
  42.    with the SPEA MEDIA XTC. The configuration and installation of the 
  43.    soundboard can now be executed under DOS / Windows 3.1x also without Plug & 
  44.    Play functionality (without ICU Utility and without Plug & Play BIOS in the 
  45.    system).
  46.    In this case, the configuration of the I/O addresses, Interrupts and DMA 
  47.    channels can be done by the SSINIT utility, which you can find in the 
  48.    installation directory (in general C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC).
  49.    Start SSINIT under DOS without any parameter. Select the Option `Advanced'. 
  50.    In the following you can change the settings of the board in the menu 
  51.    option `Hardware'. 
  52.    If you have installed a mouse driver under DOS, you can comfortably make 
  53.    the selections with the mouse.
  54.    If you don't want to make the hardware settings on your own, you should 
  55.    install the Intel ICU Plug & Play Utility on your system before you install 
  56.    the board. The program can be obtained by your local dealer. The 
  57.    configuration of the SPEA MEDIA XTC then will be executed automatically by 
  58.    this program.
  59.  
  60.    Please note, that without an installed Plug & Play fuctionality the SPEA 
  61.    MEDIA XTC will be set to the default values I/O=330, DMA=1, IRQ=9 and 
  62.    IRQ=5. Perhaps conflicts with other system components may occur with these 
  63.    settings.
  64.  
  65.    Q: After the SPEA MEDIA XTC Windows 3.1x driver installation the system 
  66.       reboots. During the booting process the system crashes while executing 
  67.       the program SSINIT.
  68.    A: You have installed your SPEA MEDIA XTC without having installed a Plug & 
  69.       Play Utility on your system and with the default I/O addresses, DMA 
  70.       channel or Interrputs conflicts occur between the SPEA MEDIA XTC and 
  71.       other system components. 
  72.       Boot your system without starting SSINIT (e.g. with a DOS boot disk or 
  73.       by pressing the F8 key while booting and confirming each executable 
  74.       command separately).
  75.       Change to the installation directory (in general C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC). 
  76.       Start SSINIT without any parameter and select the option `Advanced'. Now 
  77.       you can configure the settings of the soundboard in the `Hardware' menu. 
  78.       May be that you have to enter the following commands before you start 
  79.       SSINIT:
  80.     SET BLASTER=A220 1xx Dx T1
  81.     SET SNDSCAPE=C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC
  82.       Alternatively you can edit the file SNDSCAPE.INI directly:
  83.       Open the file SNDSCAPE.INI -which you will find in the installation 
  84.       directory - with an editor (e.g. the DOS-Editor EDIT) and change the 
  85.       parameter values of IRQ, SBIRQ and DMA corresponding to your 
  86.       requirements. For possible values for Interrupts and DMA channels please 
  87.       refer to the SPEA MEDIA XTC hardware manual in Appendix C - Technical 
  88.       Data.
  89.  
  90.    Q: Different to the manual the installation doesn't offer the option for a 
  91.       volume level control to be installed in the AutoStart group. The Level 
  92.       Control Utility will not be installed. 
  93.    A: Different to the description in the manual in Part 2 - Installing the 
  94.       SPEA MEDIA XTC, the Level Control Utility is not supplied and installed 
  95.       with the soundboard, as there are compatibility problems with Windows 
  96.       95.
  97.  
  98.    Q: The diagnostic Utility S2KSTAT - described in the manual in Part 3 - 
  99.       Configuration of the SPEA MEDIA XTC is not executable. It terminates 
  100.       with an error message. 
  101.    A: To get use of the diagnostic Utility S2KSTAT you have to add the 
  102.       following line to the file SNDSCAPE.INI. 
  103.     CodeFile=SNDSCAPE.C03
  104.       Now you can use the program.
  105.  
  106.    Q: The SPEA MEDIA XTC can not be installed under Windows 95 as described. 
  107.       Either the board cannot be detected by the system or the driver tells 
  108.       (in the Windows 95 device manager) that actually there are no conflicts 
  109.       but that the board is not ready for use or that the driver installation 
  110.       is incomplete. 
  111.    A: In such a case the Plug & Play functionality under Windows 95 is 
  112.       seriously disrupted. This most likely occurs with an elder or a 
  113.       defective System BIOS. Contact your local dealer or the motherboard 
  114.       manufacturer and ask for a System BIOS update.
  115.  
  116.    Q: Windows 95 or the SPEA MEDIA XTC Windows 95 driver reports a conflict 
  117.       between the SPEA MEDIA XTC and another installed device.
  118.    A: Eventually Windows 95 has not recognized the Ensoniq Soundscape chip set 
  119.       of the SPEA MEDIA XTC due to an error with the Plug & Play functionality 
  120.       and therefore installs the Soundboard as an unknown device. Remove the 
  121.       unnknown devices and the SPEA MEDIA XTC entries with the device manager 
  122.       of Windows 95. Restart Windows 95 and follow the instructions of Windows 
  123.       95, in case that it requires driver disks.
  124.  
  125.    Q: After a -as it seems- successful installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  126.       Windows 95 driver the network card, the mouse or another device does not 
  127.       work propely any more.
  128.    A: These problems can have several reasons:
  129.       - An elder Plug & Play BIOS or one that is incompatible to Windows 95 
  130.     can cause the described effect. After you update the BIOS, the problem 
  131.     should be solved.
  132.       - If your BIOS offers the possibility to mark IRQs as reserved, it may 
  133.     be necessary that you mark the IRQs as reserved that are reserved by 
  134.     ISA boards without Plug & Play functionality.
  135.       - May be that conflicts between different devices already occured before 
  136.     the Installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC. The devices could have worked 
  137.     properly without any errors before, though the error has already been 
  138.     existing. In the device manager check, if there are conflicts between 
  139.     other devices and change the configuration of these devices.
  140.  
  141.    Q: After a - as it seems - successful installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  142.       Windows 95 driver the SPEA MEDIA XTC doen not work.

  155.       - In some cases it can be necessary to reconfigure the SPEA MEDIA XTC, 
  156.     to select another Interrupt or DMA channel, though obvioulsy no 
  157.     problem occurs. It may be that other components or their drivers 
  158.     cause errors on Interrupts or DMA channels they actually don't 
  159.     reserve. It may also be that a motherboard has problems with some 
  160.     certain interrupts or DMA channels if a board is installed in an 
  161.     expansion slot.

  165. B) Corrections to the manual
  166.  
  167.    P.  9  Installation via a Plug & Play System or Utility (ICU):
  168.       If you don't have a Plug & Play Utility (e.g. Intel's ICU) or Plug & 
  169.       Play BIOS in your system, then you can also configure your SPEA 
  170.       MEDIA XTC with the SSINIT Utility (without Plug & Play 
  171.       functionality). Though it is adviced to purchase a Plug & Play 
  172.       Utility at your local dealer or motherboard manufacturer. 
  173.  
  174.    P. 11  Internal Audio Connectors / Mitsumi CD (J5):
  175.       Different to the description and the illustration on page 10 the 
  176.       Audio Connector J5 for a Mitsumi CD is not available on the SPEA 
  177.       MEDIA XTC.

  179.    P. 13  Installation of the Software for DOS / Windows 3.1:
  180.       For compatibility reasons (with Windows 95) the Level Control 
  181.       Utility described under item 6 is no longer part of the delivery 
  182.       scope. This means also that there is no possibility for setting up 
  183.       the Volume Level control in the Autostart group of Windows.

  200.    The SPEA MEDIA XTC is supplied with drivers for Windows 3.1x as well as 
  201.    drivers for Windows 95. Please use the drivers that fit to your operating 
  202.    system. The drivers are available on the supplied disk or on the Media 
  203.    Gallery CD Edition Nr. 12/95 upwards.

  205.    The supplied applications Super JAM! Jr. and Recording Session Plus can be 
  206.    used under Windows 3.1x and under Windows 95.

  210. D) Notes to Super JAM! JR. from the Blue Ribbon Soundworks
  211.  
  212.    The Program SuperJAM! Jr. from The Blue Ribbon Soundworks is a powerful 
  213.    program which makes it very easy to compose.

  215.    When you have successfully installed your Software you can get aware of the 
  216.    program very easy with the available online help.

  218.    Installation of the Software:
  219.    1. Insert the Super JAM! Jr. Installation disk in the corresponding disk 
  220.       drive. 
  221.    2. Start Windows (if not already done)
  222.    3. Start the Software installation from the Program Manager with the 
  223.       following call:
  224.     `File' `Run' A:\SETUP.EXE
  225.    4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

  263. A) Hinweise und bekannte Probleme
  264.  
  265.    Beachten Sie bitte auch die Hinweise im Anhang B - Problemlösungen
  266.    des Handbuches.

  269.    Installation der Treiber für Windows 3.1x
  270.    
  271.    Achtung: Anders als im Handbuch beschrieben, wird die MEDIA XTC nicht mehr
  272.    mit dem Intel ICU Plug & Play Utility ausgeliefert. Die Konfiguration und 
  273.    Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC kann jetzt unter DOS / Windows 3.1x auch 
  274.    ohne Plug & Play-Funktionalität (ohne ICU  Utility und ohne Plug & Play
  275.    BIOS im Rechner) ausgeführt werden.
  276.    Die Konfiguration der I/O Adressen, der Interrups und DMA-Kanäle erfolgt 
  277.    in diesem Fall mit dem Utility SSINIT, das Sie im Installationsverzeichnis 
  278.    (in der Regel ist dies C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC) finden. 
  279.    Starten Sie hierzu SSINIT unter DOS ohne Parameter. Wählen Sie die Option 
  280.    'Advanced' aus, anschließend können Sie im Menü 'Hardware' die 
  281.    Einstellungen der Karte ändern.
  282.    SSINIT können Sie bequem mit der Maus bedienen, wenn unter DOS ein Treiber
  283.    für Ihre Maus installiert ist. 
  284.    Möchten Sie die Hardwareeinstellungen (I/O-Adresse, Interrupt und DMA-
  285.    Kanal) nicht selber vornehmen müssen, sollten Sie das Intel Plug and Play
  286.    Utility ICU vor der Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC auf Ihrem PC 
  287.    installieren. Sie erhalten dies von Ihrem PC Fachhändler. Die Konfiguration
  288.    der SPEA MEDIA XTC erfolgt dann automatisch durch das ICU Utility.
  289.  
  290.    Beachten Sie bitte, daß bei einer Installation ohne installierte Plug &
  291.    Play Funktionalität die SPEA MEDIA XTC auf die Standardwerte I/O=330, 
  292.    DMA=1 und IRQ=9 sowie IRQ=5 voreingestellt wird. Eventuell kann es mit 
  293.    anderen Systemkomponenten zu Konflikten kommen. 
  294.  
  295.    F: Nach der Installation der Windows-Treiber der SPEA MEDIA XTC führt das
  296.       System einen Neustart durch. Während des Bootens stürzt das System beim
  297.       Ausführen von SSINIT ab.
  298.    A: Sie haben die SPEA MEDIA XTC installiert, ohne Plug & Play auf Ihrem
  299.       System installiert zu haben und mit der Standard I/O-Adressen, dem 
  300.       Standard DMA-Kanal oder einer der Standard Interrupts kommt es zu einem
  301.       Konflik zwischen SPEA MEDIA XTC und einer anderen Komponente Ihres
  302.       Systems. 
  303.       Booten Sie Ihr System, ohne daß SSINIT ausgeführt wird (z.B. mit einer
  304.       DOS Boot-Diskette oder indem Sie beim Booten die Taste F8 gedrückt 
  305.       halten und die auszuführenden Befehle einzeln bestätigen). 
  306.       Wechseln Sie in das Installationsverzeichnis (in der Regel ist dies
  307.       C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC). Starten Sie SSINIT ohne Angabe von Parametern und
  308.       wählen Sie die Option 'Advanced' aus. Anschließend können Sie im Menü 
  309.       'Hardware' die Konfiguration der SPEA MEDIA XTC entsprechen Ihres 
  310.       Systems ändern. Gegebenenfalls müssen Sie vor dem Aufruf von SSINIT die
  311.       zwei folgenden Zeilen eigeben:
  312.     SET BLASTER=A220 Ixx Dx T1
  313.     SET SNDSCAPE=C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC
  314.       Alternativ können Sie auch die Datei SNDSCAPE.INI direkt editieren:
  315.       Öffnen Sie die Datei SNDSCAPE.INI, die Sie im Installationsverzeichnis 
  316.       finden, mit einem Editor (z.B. EDIT von MS-DOS) und verändern Sie die 
  317.       Werte hinter den Parametern IRQ, SBIRQ und DMA entsprechend Ihren 
  318.       Erfordernissen. Mögliche Werte für Interrupt und DMA-Kanäle entnehmen 
  319.       Sie bitte dem Handbuch Anhang C - Technische Daten.
  320.       
  321.    F: Anders als im Handbuch beschrieben, bietet die Installation der Treiber
  322.       für Windows 3.1x nicht die Option, einen Lautstärkeregler in der 
  323.       Autostartgruppe zu installieren. Das Level Control Utility wird nicht 
  324.       installiert.
  325.    A: Anders als im Handbuch unter Teil 2 - Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC
  326.       beschrieben, wird das Level Control Utility aus Gründen der 
  327.       Kompatibilit zu Windows 95 nicht mehr mit der SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  328.       ausgeliefert und installiert.
  329.  
  330.    F: Das im Handbuch unter Teil 3 - Konfiguration der SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  331.       beschriebene Diagnose Utility S2KStat läßt sich nicht ausführen. Es
  332.       bricht mit einer Fehlermeldung ab.
  333.    A: Um das Utility S2KStat nutzen zukönnen, müssen Sie der Datei 
  334.       SNDSCAPE.INI die folgende Zeile hinzufügen. Dann läßt sich S2KStat 
  335.       nutzen.
  336.     CodeFile=SNDSCAPE.CO3
  337.  
  338.    F: Unter Windows 95 läßt sich die SPEA MEDIA XTC nicht wie beschrieben
  339.       installieren.
  340.       Entweder Findet das System keine Karte oder der Treiber meldet (im
  341.       Windows 95 Gerätemanager) daß zwar keine Konflikte vorliegen, jedoch
  342.       das Gerät nicht betriebsbereit sei oder die Treiberinstallation 
  343.       unvollständig sei.
  344.    A: In einem solchen Fall kommt es zu einer schweren Störung der Plug & Play
  345.       Funktionalität von Windows 95. In der Regel liegt dies an einem 
  346.       verälteten oder fehlerhaften System-BIOS. Wenden Sie sich an Ihren PC 
  347.       Fachhändler oder Motherboard-Hersteller und fragen diesen nach einem 
  348.       BIOS-Update.
  349.  
  350.    F: Windows 95 bzw. der Windows 95 Treiber der SPEA MEDIA XTC meldet einen
  351.       Konflikt zwischen der SPEA MEDIA XTC und einem anderen installierten
  352.       Gerät.
  353.    A: Eventuell hat Windows 95 durch eine Störung der Plug & Play 
  354.       Funktionalität den Ensoniq Soundscape Chipsatz der SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  355.       erkannt und als unbekanntes Gerät installiert. Entfernen Sie mit dem
  356.       Gerätemanager von Windows 95 die unbekannten Geräte und die SPEA MEDIA
  357.       XTC Einträge. Starten Sie Windows 95 neu und folgen Sie den Anweisungen
  358.       von Windows 95, falls es nach Treiberdisketten verlangt.
  359.  
  360.    F: Nach der anscheinend problemlosen Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  361.       Treiber für Windows 95 funktioniert die Netzwerkkarte, die Maus oder ein 
  362.       anderes Gerät nicht mehr. 
  363.    A: Ausfallserscheinungen anderer Geräte nach der Installation der SPEA
  364.       MEDIA XTC unter Windows 95 können verschiedene Gründe haben:
  365.       - Bei veralteten oder zu Windows 95 inkompatiblen Plug & Play BIOSen 
  366.     kann es zu den beschriebenen Effekten kommen. Nach einem Update des 
  367.     BIOSes ist das Problem meist behoben. 
  368.       - Besitzt Ihr BIOS die Moglichkeiten IRQs als belegt zu markieren, ist 
  369.     es möglicherweise notwendig, die durch ISA-Karten ohne Plug & Play 
  370.     Funktionalität belegten IRQs im BIOS als belegt zu markieren.
  371.       - Eventuell bestanden schon vor der Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC
  372.     zwischen verschiedenen Komponenten Konflikte. Einige Geräte können
  373.     eventuell auch trotz eines vorhandenen Konfliktes vor der 
  374.     Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC problemlos funktioniert haben.
  375.     Überprüfen Sie im Gerätemanager, ob eventuell Konflikte zwischen
  376.     Geräten vorliegen und ändern Sie die Konfiguration dieser Geräte.
  377.  
  378.    F: Nach der anscheinend problemlosen Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  379.       Treiber für Windows 95 funktioniert SPEA MEDIA XTC nicht.
  380.    A: Fehlfunktionen nach der Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC unter Windows 95 
  381.       können verschiedene Gründe haben:
  382.       - Bei veralteten oder zu Windows 95 inkompatiblen Plug & Play BIOSen 
  383.     kann es zu diesem Fehlverhalten kommen. Nach einem Update des BIOSes 
  384.     ist das Problem meist behoben. 
  385.       - Besitzt Ihr BIOS die Moglichkeiten IRQs als belegt zu markieren, ist 
  386.     es möglicherweise notwendig, die durch ISA-Karten ohne Plug & Play

  390.     eventuell auch trotz eines vorhandenen Konfliktes vor der 
  391.     Installation der SPEA MEDIA XTC problemlos funktioniert haben.
  392.     Überprüfen Sie im Gerätemanager, ob eventuell Konflikte zwischen
  393.     Geräten vorliegen und ändern Sie die Konfiguration dieser Geräte.
  394.       - In einigen Fällen kann es notwendig sein die SPEA MEDIA XTC auf eine
  395.     andere Konfiguration umzustellen und einen anderen Interrupt oder DMA-
  396.     Kanal zu wählen, obwohl anscheinend kein Konflikt vorliegt. 
  397.     Es kann vorkommen, daß andere Komponenten oder deren Treiber Störungen
  398.     auf Interrupts oder DMA-Kanälen verursachen, die sie eigentlich nicht
  399.     belegen. Ebenso kann es vorkommen, daß ein Motherboard einfach auf
  400.     bestimmten Interrups oder DMA-Kanälen Probleme mit bestimmten
  401.     Steckkarten hat.
  402.

  405. B) Änderungen zum Handbuch
  406.  
  407.    S.  9  Installation über ein Plug & Play-System bzw. Utility (ICU):
  408.       Verfügen Sie auf Ihrem System nicht über ein Plug and Play Utility
  409.       (z.B. ICU von Intel) oder ein Plug & Play BIOS, dann können Sie
  410.       die SPEA MEDIA XTC auch über das SSINIT Utiliy (ohne Plug and Play
  411.       Funktionalität) konfigurieren.
  412.       Es wird allerdings empfohlen, daß Sie sich ein Plug and Play Utility
  413.       (z.B. ICU von Intel) von Ihrem PC Fachhändler oder Motherboard-
  414.       Hersteller besorgen.
  415.    
  416.    S. 11  Interne Audioanschlüsse / Mitsumi CD (J5):
  417.       Anders als auf Seite 11 beschrieben und in der Zeichnung auf Seite
  418.       10 eingezeichnet ist der Audioanschluß J5 für Mitsumi CD auf der
  419.       SPEA MEDIA XTC nicht bestückt.

  421.    S. 13  Installation der Software für DOS/Windows 3.1:
  422.       Das unter 6. beschriebene Level Control Utility gehört aus Gründen
