1. General Notes
================
IMPORTANT!
You must IMPERATIVELY read this README file and all the documentation
supplied BEFORE you continue the installation!
Otherwise SPEA cannot accept any responsibility for claims that may be
caused as a consequence.
Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the
features provided by the MIRAGE VIDEO TV, if the other components of
your system, especially the graphic monitor that is being used,
also comply with the specifications of the MIRAGE VIDEO TV.
(Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the
MIRAGE VIDEO TV can obviously not be used with a monitor that is
specified to only support resolutions up to 1024x768).
1.1 Supported TV Systems
-------------------------
This board supports only the PAL B/G TV system, which is used e.g. in
Germany.
2. Installation
===============
SPEA offers the MIRAGE VIDEO TV with and without a MPEG hardware
module. The installation detects automaticly the module and
uses the right installation.
The program calls stated below refer to the installation from the
SPEA installation disks and the SPEA Media Gallery CD ('MG-CD').
If you have only floppies in the box, the software at the floppies
will be newer as the current CD.
2.1 Installation under DOS
==========================
Note:
Before you start the installation you should know where (drive and
directory) your applications are installed for which you wish to
install driver software.
Start the installation from
a) Disk with b) MG-CD with
A:\ <CD drive>:
INSTALL SPEAINST
After the installation it will normally be necessary to reconfigure
your applications for the new driver software. The steps necessary
to achieve this are described in the manuals.
VESA Modes:
-----------
VESA mode support is integrated in the BIOS of the MIRAGE VIDEO TV.
2.2 Installation under Windows / Windows 95
===========================================
Note: The install program detects your operatin system and installs
the correct drivers.
Select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run' in the Windows Program
Manager. Then enter:
a) (Disk) b) (MG-CD)(not for this release!)
A:\SETUP <CD drive>:SPEAINST
Note:
If you intend to use the DOS programs SPTUNE, MX2TEST and S3TEST under
Windows 95 then you must do this via the Explorer ('Start', 'Run')
using the path C:\SPEA\GDC\SPTUNE for example, and NOT via a DOS
box.
Windows 95 and problems while playing Video-CD or CDI
-----------------------------------------------------
Our MPEG playback MCI driver uses the WIN95 driver for the CD-ROM
drive. If Win95 doesn't support your CDROM controller not rigth (if
you use a CDROM drive at a IDE port, you are using the Win95 controller
driver for the IDE controller), there are 2 workarounds:
- Using the DOS-realmode driver
Install the CDROM driver in the Config.sys and \WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE
in autoexec.bat. Additional it could be possible to disable the 32 bit
mode for the drives.
- Using an other IDE controller
Use an other, secondary, IDE controller (normally address 170, IRQ 15
or 10), supported by Win95. If you use your CD-ROM at this port, the
problem should be solved.
(Only possible if your motherboard uses only one IDE controller, normally
address 1F0, IRQ 14).
You can use a second IDE port at newer soundboards with IDE port (no
soundboards with CD-ROM CDROM interfaces for special xxx-drives) or a
simple ISA IDE controller.
2.3 Installation under OS/2 Warp
================================
The Driver for OS/2 are not a part of the floppy release. Please get the
from our CD-ROM or turn to the SPEA Mailbox.
To install other drivers and tools z.B. for Win-OS/2, start Win-OS/2
and continue as described in section 2.2
2.4 Installing the Windows NT 3.5x Driver
-----------------------------------------
The Driver for NT are not a part of the floppy release. Please get the
from our CD-ROM or turn to the SPEA Mailbox.
3. Choosing a Monitor
======================
As mentioned above, the graphics monitor you choose to use with
your board should be technically suitable for use with your
MIRAGE VIDEO TV board in order to be able fully utilize this.
The display refresh rate for graphical user interface operating
systems (Windows [95], OS/2 and Windows NT) is selected using
the corresponding program V7SETUP, V7SETOS2 and V7SETNT.
Extended tuning (with display image positioning) and the selection
of the display refresh rate for DOS programs such as AutoCAD for
DOS, is made with the program SPEAtune (SPTUNE).
Note:
SPTUNE is exclusively programmed for use under DOS.
*** IMPORTANT ***
Only use settings that your monitor supports. If you use the monitor
outside the specified ratings then it may suffer permanent damage!
If you change the monitor then you must compare the ratings first
and should reconfigure with SPTUNE accordingly!
4. Known Restrictions
======================
(1) It is generally not possible to use more than one active VGA
board simultaneously in a PC.
If your PC has a VGA adapter on the motherboard and you wish to use
the MIRAGE VIDEO TV, then you must deactivate the VGA adapter in the
PC first.
(2) MPEG playback with the hardware MPEG-Module
- If you installed first the XING player and after that the MPEG
Modul, the link between the mpg extension and the XING Player still
exist. With a mouse double click at a *.mpg file the XING player
will be started with a error massage. This problem don't exist while
playing a MPEG file with the SPEA MEDIASTATION or the Windows media
player. Will be fixed in the next release.
- With SPTUNE stored monitor modes can't be used with WINTUNE.
Will be fixed in the next release.
- Capturing a single frame is possible (right mouse button in 'monitor')
capturing a sequence could not be released up to now.
(3) A Software MPEG Decoder for WIN95, supporting DIRECT DRAW will be
available soon via BBS /Compuserve. (The WIN95 driver are already
supporting DirectDRAW.)
5. Notes on Applications
=========================
Seperate README files exist for the applications supported by the
MIRAGE VIDEO TV. These contain information on last-minute changes
that could not be included in the manual. They also contain
information concerning known restrictions.
The README files are also copied to the \SPEA\GDC directory during
the software installation when you select a driver. The files have
the extension .DOC.
You can view the respective README files by entering SHOW *.DOC.
Example:
--------
C:>CD \SPEA\GDC Change to \SPEA\GDC directory
C:\SPEA\GDC>SHOW ACAD.DOC Show README file for AutoCAD
5.1. Mirage Video /TV together with the SPEA Crunch It
------------------------------------------------------
If you want to play a MPEG file, while you have installed the SPEA
Crunch It via the SPEA MoviBus, it may happen, that your system crashes.
This may happen only with the MPEG Module hardware revision R10
(indicated at the back side of the MPEG Module).
If you have the revision R10A02, R11... or higher, this problem could
not occur.
If this problem occures on your PC, please call our dept. System and
Service to get a new MPEG Module.
5.2. SPEA VIDEOTEXT
-------------------
A new, 32 bit Videotext program, supporting all advantages of Windows(R)95
will be released in spring 1996 at Compuserve (GO SPEA) and our BBS.
6. Corrections to the Manual
=============================
MIRAGE VIDEO TV and SPEA Ergonomic Modes up to 100 Hz:
-------------------------------------------------------
The BIOS of your MIRAGE VIDEO TV supports all available resolutions
up to a frequency of 75 Hz. An additional software solution (SPTUNE)
also makes refresh rates up to 100 Hz possible. An overview of the
frequencies available can be found in the file BIOS.TXT.
Important: the SPEA ergonomic modes with frequencies over 75 Hz are
only active if the program 'V7HFREQ' has been called with the parameter
't' (Windows 95: V7HFREQ tw). For this reason, a corresponding call
is placed in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file during the installation.
S3TEST:
-------
S3TEST is a program provided to test your graphics board for errors. It
check whether the board is correctly functioning together with your PC.
During the testing phase (which can take a few seconds), a number of
different color patterns will be displayed on your monitor (these are
different according to the board being tested). The patterns created
are the result of technical tests and do NOT represent an error on
your board. An accurate result is shown at the end of the test routine.
TVTEST:
-------
This program tests the Video In connectors, the TV and the teletext part
of this board. If you have no signal connected to the 2 Video In connectors,
you will get an ERROR message.
