  45.     The V7-MERCURY Lite PCI graphic card is a product that offers 
  46.     significantly enhanced features compared to other standard VGA 
  47.     graphic and accelerator boards.
  48.  
  49.       This particularly applies to  
  50.     - higher resolutions    and
  51.         - higher refresh rates.
  52.  
  53.     Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the 
  54.     features provided by the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI, if the other 
  55.         components of your system, especially the graphic monitor 
  56.         that is being used, also comply with the specifications of 
  57.         the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI.

  59.     (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the 
  60.     V7-MERCURY Lite PCI can obviously not be used with a monitor 
  61.         that is specified to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

  68.         For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver 'BigWin':
  69.  
  70.         Select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run' in the Windows Program
  71.         Manager. Then enter:

  73.         a) (Drivers for Windows Disk)      b) (Media Gallery-CD)

  81.     Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  82.     for a specific non windows application.
  83.  
  84.     (1) (Only for floppy disk installation. You have to start the 
  85.         installation from Media Gallery CD-ROM always with SPEAINST.)
  86.  
  87.  
  88.         First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MERCURY 
  89.         Lite PCI Superdisk to the hard disk of your system.
  90.     This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the 
  91.         V7-MERCURY Lite PCI Superdisk.
  92.     Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and 
  93.     directories the applications are installed that you want to 
  94.         install    drivers for.
  95.  
  96.     - change to the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  97.     - select the language you prefer,
  98.     - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.   
  99.  
  100.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the  
  101.     applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The  
  102.     User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  103.     supported by the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI.

  107.     ║                    Monitor Selection                        ║
  108.     ╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝

  110.     As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with 
  111.         the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI must comply to the specifications of 
  112.         the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI. Only then can the full functionality
  113.         of the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI be used.
  114.     
  115.     The User Manual and the file \SPEA\GDC\MNTLPCI.BAT provide
  116.     detailed information on how to select and modify the various
  117.     monitor parameters (resolution and refresh rates).
  118.  
  119.                 *** IMPORTANT ***
  120.  
  121.     Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  122.     Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven 
  123.     with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  124.     If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
  125.     and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates!

  129.     ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  132.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more VGA boards in one PC at 
  133.     the same time. 
  134.     In case you want to use the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI board in a 
  135.         PC that has a VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, 
  136.         then this integrated VGA interface must be disabled before 
  137.         the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI may be used.
  138.  
  139.     (2) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer 
  140.  
  141.                      "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  142.  
  143.     in their configuration programs.
  144.  
  145.     These options should NOT be selected when using the 
  146.         V7-MERCURY Lite PCI.
  147.  
  148.     Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to 
  149.     guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI
  150.         is being installed.
  151.  
  152.     (3) To keep the compatibility to a lot of monitors, the 
  153.         V7-MERCURY Lite PCI has the possibility do create low 
  154.         refreshrates at high pixel resolutions. Synchronisation 
  155.         problems may in this case occure with high-class multi-sync 
  156.         monitors. To prevent this, please choose the highest 
  157.         horizontal frequenzy as possible with the file MNTLPCI.BAT or 
  158.         while using the windows utility V7SETUP.

  160.     (4)    MicroStation Protected Mode:
  161.         The MicroStation Protected Mode driver for the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI
  162.         does not support the 1152x870 8 bit resolution.

  165.     ║                  Notes on Applications                      ║

  168.     Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  169.     available for the V7-MERCURY Lite PCI. These READMEs contain 
  170.         last-minute information not included in the printed documentation
  171.         and information related to known limitations.

  173.     These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  174.     the related driver has been selected for installation while
  175.     running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
  176.     the file name extension .DOC .
  177.  
  178.     Use the command  SHOW *.DOC  from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
  179.     display the README file on your screen.

  201.     If you permanently use your monitor with a refresh           
  202.     rate that is too high for your monitor you may damage it!   
  203.     If you are not sure about the monitor frequencies your       
  204.     monitor supports, please inform yourself about the resolution   
  205.     and refresh capabilities in your monitor manual.        
  206.     Please note that you have to adjust the refresh rates again  
  207.     if you change your monitor.
