  20. 1. What is VESA DPMS?
  21. =====================
  22. DPMS stands for 'Display Power Management Signaling' and is a
  23. standard laid down by VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association)
  24. to define the hardware signaling of power management states for use
  25. with video devices, such as monitors. DPMS is a part of the new swedish
  26. TCO 92 standard, which can be regarded as an extension of the
  27. internationally reknown MPR II standard.

  29. The four DPMS states that have been defined are: 'ON', 'STAND-BY', 'SUSPEND'
  30. and 'OFF' (whereby the STAND-BY state is not mandatory for DPMS
  31. compliancy).

  33. 2. What do the four different DPMS states mean?
  34. ===============================================
  35. (a) ON:       Display is in full operation. There is no power saving.
  36. (b) STAND-BY: State of minimal power reduction with the shortest recovery
  37.               time (optional DPMS state).
  38. (c) SUSPEND:  Substantial power management state. The display can have a
  39.               longer recovery time than from the STAND-BY state.
  40. (d) OFF:      The display is consuming the lowest level of power and is
  41.               non-operational. Power saving is maximized.

  43. 3. What is SPEAenergy?
  44. ======================
  45. SPEAenergy is SPEA Software AG's software realization of the VESA DPMS
  46. standard running under windows 3.1x. Using a simple Windows dialogue box it
  47. is possible to define various 'time-out' settings for the transition to the
  48. various DPMS states, relative to a screensaver time setting. SPEA has added
  49. screensaver and password controls for optional use.

  51. 4. What requirements exist for SPEAenergy?
  52. ==========================================
  53. To use DPMS and SPEAenergy fully you require a modern, DPMS-compatible
  54. monitor, such as the SPEA 2185 MS and a SPEA V7 graphics board.

  56. 5. Which SPEA V7 graphic boards support SPEAenergy?
  57. ===================================================
  58. The following table shows you which SPEA V7 hardware supports the DPMS
  59. states, and to which extent: (obviously, all support 'ON')

  79. Note: Boards which do not support the STAND-BY state do not permit the user
  80.       to make a STAND-BY time-out setting (the area is greyed-out).

  83. 6. How do I install SPEAenergy? How to update it?
  84. =================================================
  85. -  Start Windows.
  86. -  When updateing: If you have already installed a further version of
  87.    SEAenergy please make sure that SPEAenergy has been closed and that it
  88.    is not active during the update process!
  89. -  Start from Program Managers 'Main'-Window the File Manager with a double
  90.    click on the icon.
  91. -  Select drive A: or B: or else where files of SPEAenergy are located.
  92. -  Start 'SPENERGY.EXE' with a double click on the file name.
  93. -  The program is installing itself to your harddisk and puts an icon into
  94.    your SPEA V7 group or - when updateing - overwrites the older files.
  95.    The SPEAenergy menu comes up and you can change the DPMS settings.
  96. -  Activate DPMS settings and confirm your choices by pushing the OK-button.
  97.    SPEAenergy is active now.

  99. 7. Using SPEAenergy
  100. ===================
  101. SPEAenergy is fairly self-explanatory. If you still need help, call
  102. the online help for detailled instructions.

  104. 8) Fixed Bugs
  105. =============
  106. For PC Tools, Norton Desktop Windows: The icon of SPEAenergy isn't installed
  107. again with every call of SPEAenergy.
  108. Screen was blanked before calling screen saving mode. The contents of
  109. the screen couldn't be seen when screen saving mode was active.
  110. Networkinstallation and network operating now possible.
  111. different background colours when closing SPEAenergy whithin its
  112. close-checkbox.

  114. 9. Restrictions
  115. ===============
  116. SPEAenergy does not run under Windows95 (Tm).
  117. SPEAenergy does not run under Windows NT 3.x (Tm).
  118. SPEAenergy does not run under OS/2 2.x, 3.x (Tm).
