  6. This driver package contains following files. Please copy them to a 
  7. floppy disk to make an installation disk.

  23. *** Installation Instructions ***
  24.  
  25. Please preset the Windows 95 PCMCIA socket to 32-bit mode before 
  26. installing the PRD-155SB Sound Box driver for Windows 95.
  27.  
  28. Presetting PCMCIA socket to 32-bit mode
  29.  
  30. 1. Quit any applications you are running, and remove the PC Card of the
  31.    Sound Box from your PC card slot.
  32. 2. From the My computer window, open the Control Panel.
  33. 3. Double-click on the System icon to open the System Properties window.
  34. 4. Click the Performance tab to see the Performance Status.
  35.     If the "PC Cards[PCMCIA]:" line indicates "32-bit", go to the 
  36.     next procedure - Installing the PRD-150 driver.
  37.     If it indicates "MS-DOS compatibility mode," continue this 
  38.     procedure to change the PC card mode to 32-bit.
  39. 5. Double click on the PC Card(PCMCIA) icon located in the Control 
  40.    Panel.
  41.     The message - "Welcome to the PC Card Wizard" appears. 
  42. 6. Click Next until the third screen opens.
  43.     The third screen indicated that the 32-bit device driver support
  44.     is ready to be enabled.
  45. 7. Click Finish to enable the drivers.
  46.     The message - "System Settings Change" appears.
  47. 8. Click YES to shut down your PC. 
  48.     Turn on your PC again, and follow the above steps 1-4 again to 
  49.     confirm that the PCMCIA socket works in 32-bit mode.

  51.  
  52. Using the Help program.
  53.  
  54. During the PCMCIA socket set-up, the PC Card(PCMCIA) Troubleshooter 
  55. guides you step-by-step through the setup procedure. To activate the 
  56. help program, 1) click Start in the Task Bar and select Help, 2) click 
  57. the Contents tab, 3) double-click on Troubleshooting and look for PC 
  58. card(PCMCIA) help.

  61. Installing the Sound Box driver
  62.  
  63. 1. Insert the PC Card of the Sound Box to the PC card slot.
  64.     The New Hardware Found window appears. Windows will prompt you 
  65.     to install "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer."
  66.  
  67.     *** WARNING ***
  68.     To cancel the installation, always use the Cancel button. Never 
  69.     use the "Do not install a driver" option. If you select this 
  70.     option, your PC rejects the PC card of the Sound Box and the 
  71.     New Hardware Found window will not appear again even if the PC 
  72.     is re-booted. If you selected this option, see the 
  73.     "Troubleshooting."
  74.   
  75. 2. Insert the installation disk into your floppy disk drive.
  76. 3. Click OK.
  77.     The Install From Disk window appears. Confirm that the indicated
  78.      drive(default A) is the correct letter of your floppy disk 
  79.      drive. If not, please type the correct drive letter.
  80. 4. Click OK.
  81.     Windows will prompt you to restart your computer.
  82. 5. Click Yes to restart your computer.

  85. Optimizing performance
  86.  
  87. 1. Double-click on the System icon in the Control Panel to open the 
  88.    System Properties window.
  89. 2. Select the Performance tab and click File System... in the Advanced
  90.    settings box. 
  91. 3. Select the CD-ROM tab.
  92. 4. Select "Double-speed drivers" or higher under "Optimize access 
  93.    pattern for:" and click OK.

  96. Troubleshooting
  97.  
  98. If you accidentally selected the "Do not install a driver" option in 
  99. the New Hardware Found window....
  100.  
  101. 1. Insert the PC card of the Sound Box and remove any other PC cards in
  102.    the slot.
  103. 2. Double-click on the System icon to open the System Properties window.
  104. 3. In the Device Manager, select "View devices by connection" in the 
  105.    upper right corner of the window.
  106. 4. Look for your PCMCIA controller in the Device Manager window, and
  107.    double-click on it.
  108.     "DSP Solutions-DSP Card" appears next to the PCMCIA controller.
  109. 5. Click it to highlight, and click Remove.
  110.     The confirmation window appears.
  111. 6. Click OK.
  112. 7. Remove the PC card from your socket and follow the "installing the 
  113.    Sound Box driver" to install the correct driver.
  114.  
  115.  
  116.  
  117. *** Before using the Sound Box ***
  118.  
  119. Please read the following information before using the Sound Box under 
  120. Windows 95.
  121.  
  122.  
  123. MIDI port resources
  124. -------------------
  125. The default configuration enables the external MPU401 compatible MIDI 
  126. port. If you do not use the external MIDI port, it is better release 
  127. its I/O address space. To do so, follow the steps below: 
  128.  
  129.     a. Open the Control Panel from the My Computer window.
  130.     b. Double-click the System icon.
  131.     c. Click the Device Manager tab.
  132.     d. Double-click the item "Sound, video and game controllers."
  133.     e. Click "DSP Solutions Multimedia Card (TM) Version 6.0" and 
  134.        click Properties.
  135.     f. Click the Settings tab and clear the check mark of "MIDI 
  136.        MPU401 Configuration."
  137.  
  138.  
  139. MIDI MAPPER configuration
  140. -------------------------
  141. If MIDI synthesizer playback lacks percussion instruments, set the MIDI
  142. MAPPER configuration to "Percussion on Channel 16". To do so, follow 
  143. the steps below:
  144.  
  145.     a. Open the Control Panel from the My Computer window.
  146.     b. Double-click the Multimedia icon.
  147.     c. Click the Advanced tab.
  148.     d. Double-click the item "MIDI Devices and Instruments."
  149.     e. Click "DSPS MPU-401 Card" and click Properties.
  150.     f. Click the Details tab.
  151.     g. Click "Percussion on Channel 16" and click Apply.
  152.  
  153.  
  154. Microphone AGC configuration
  155. ----------------------------
  156. The Sound Box is equipped with an advanced Automatic Gain Control (AGC) 
  157. circuit for the microphone. When this circuit is enabled, it 
  158. automatically adjusts microphone recording level, overcoming differences
  159. such as speaker voice level and microphone to speaker distance.
  160. To enable AGC, follow the steps below:
  161.  
  162.     a. Click Start and choose Programs > Accessories > Multimedia >
  163.        Volume Control.
  164.     b. From the Volume Control panel, click Options and open 
  165.        Properties.
  166.     c. Click Recording and click OK.
  167.     d. Click Options and check Advanced Controls if you do not see 
  168.        the Advanced button under Microphone Volume.
  169.     e. Click Microphone Advanced.
  170.     f. Check mark at Auto Mic Level.
  171.

  173. CD-ROM XA discs
  174. ---------------
  175. This driver does not support CD-ROM XA discs.
  176.  
  177.  
  178. CD-ROM Drive file system
  179. ------------------------
  180. The Sound Box driver for Windows 95 utilizes a 16-bit CD-ROM driver, 
  181. thus the installation makes modifications to the CONFIG.SYS and 
  182. AUTOEXEC.BAT files. Do not change or modify the added lines.
  183.  
  184. Since the Sound Box driver utilizes a 16-bit CD-ROM driver, Windows 95 
  185. does not detect the media change on the CD-ROM drive. 
  186. Please click View > Refresh manually when you change the disc.
  187.  
  188.  
  189. For the PRD-150 driver for Windows 95 users
  190. -------------------------------------------
  191. Do not install the PRD-150 driver for Windows 95 where the Sound Box 
  192. driver for Windows 95 has already installed. If you want to install 
  193. the PRD-150 Windows 95 driver, un-install the Sound Box driver before 
  194. installing it.
  195.  
  196. You may install the Sound Box driver after installing the PRD-150 
  197. driver, but do not insert the PC Card of the PRD-150 while the Sound 
  198. Box driver is installed. Doing so may freeze your PC.
  199.  
  200.  
  201. Un-installing this software drivers package
  202. -------------------------------------------
  203. To uninstall this software package do the following:
  204.  
  205.     a. Open the Control Panel from the My Computer window.
  206.     b. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  207.     c. Select "DSP Solutions Multimedia Card[TM]" and click 
  208.        Add/Remove.
  209.     d. Click OK.
  210.  
  211.  
  212. ===============
  213. Troubleshooting
  214. ===============
  215.  
  216. 1. You do not hear the sound at all.
  217.  
  218.     The resouces may be conflicting. Open the Device Manager
  219.     ([My Computer]/[Control Panel]/[System]/[Device Manager]) and 
  220.     double-click the item "Sound,video and game controllers."
  221.     You will see "DSP Solutions Multimedia Card[TM] Version 6.0." 
  222.     Check if it is active.
  223.     If not, modify the resources by doing the following. 
  224.  
  225.         a. Double-click the item "DSP Solutions Multimedia 
  226.            Card..." and click the "Resource" tab.
  227.         b. Clear the check mark at the "Use automatic settings"
  228.            box and try another basic configuration.
  229.         c. When you see the "No conflicts" message in the 
  230.            Conflicting device list, click OK to change the 
  231.            settings.
  232.  
  233. 2. You do not see a CD-ROM icon in the My Computer window.
  234.  
  235.     Check if the following lines of CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT 
  236.     files are present in the correct order.
  237.     
  238.     CONFIG.SYS:  
  239.     DEVICEHIGH=C:\<Windows Directory>\SYSTEM\ds430map.sys
  240.     DEVICEHIGH=C:\<Windows Directory>\SYSTEM\prd150.sys /d:mscd.....
  241.  
  242.     AUTOEXEC.BAT:
  243.     mscdex.exe /d:mscd.....
  244.  
  245.     If any of the above lines are missing, uninstall the software 
  246.     and install it again.
  247.  
  248. 3. While playing an audio CD, the CD sound is not muted when the CD 
  249.    volume is muted or minimized in the Volume Control panel. 
  250.  
  251.     Changing the recording source to another device will solve the 
  252.     problem.
  253.  
  254.         a. In the Volume Control panel, click "options" and 
  255.            select "properties."
  256.         b. Click "Recording" and click OK.
  257.         c. Check the "Select" box of a recording source other 
  258.            than CD.
  259.  
  260. 4. You do not see "DSP Solutions Multimedia Card[TM]" in the Add/Remove
  261.    list when un-installing.
  262.  
  263.     Please un-install using the un-installing program.
  264.  
  265.         a. Insert the driver disk into your floppy disk drive.
  266.         b. Run "sbuninst.exe" in the disk.
  267.  
  268. 5. AutoPlay does not work on a disc that supports it.
  269.  
  270.     This driver does not support AutoPlay feature.
  271.
