  9. The XingMPEG Player UPDATE version 1.3p updates the following versions
  10. of the XingMPEG Player to the latest released version (1.3):

  17. Before running the XingMPEG Player UPDATE, you must have first installed
  18. on your PC one of these versions of the XingMPEG Player.

  21. To update your XingMPEG Player software:
  22.  
  23. 1 Turn on your computer and start Windows.
  24. 2 Open the Windows 3.x Program Manager and choose the "Run" command
  25.   from the "File" menu (under Windows 95, choose Run from the Start menu);
  26.   the "Run" dialog appears.
  27. 3 Type "{path}\UPDATE" 
  28.   Where {path} is the pathname of the directory that contains the
  29.   the XingMPEG Player UPDATE program; e.g., if the UPDATE program resides
  30.   in c:\tmp\xmp13p, type "C:\TMP\XMP13P\UPDATE".
  31. 4 Click the "OK" button. The XingMPEG Player UPDATE program starts.
  32. 5 Click the Update button to update your XingMPEG Player software.

  35. NOTES TO WINDOWS 95 USERS
  36. *************************************************************************
  37. REGARDING PLAYBACK OF CD-I TITLES - If you encounter problems playing
  38. CD-i titles (or Video CD titles opened with the "Open CD-i Movie"
  39. command) read the WN95_CDI.TXT file included on your XingMPEG Player
  40. installation disk.

  42. REGARDING VIDEO ACCELERATION AVAILABILITY - Under Windows95, DCI
  43. acceleration is unavailable with most Display Systems. If you are
  44. using such a display system, you must obtain a Direct Draw version
  45. of the XingMPEG Player and Direct Draw drivers for your PC's Display
  46. System to access video acceleration (including hardware stretching
  47. and color space conversion). Read the SUPPORT.TXT file included on
  48. your XingMPEG Player installation disk for more information.

  53. XingMPEG Driver (XMDRIVER.DRV)
  54. - Embedded Media Objects now behave properly
  55. - Under Windows95, playback of WhiteBook (VideoCD) CDs is now
  56.   supported via CDFS
  57. - Offscreen DCI is now available under Windows95 when using the
  58.   Trident 9680 display system.
  59. - Audio buffer initialization routine has been modified to improve
  60.   compatibility with audio cards that use IBM's MWAVE chip.
  61. - The MCI driver has been modified to support new clarifications
  62.   to the OM1 (MCIMPEG) specification:
  63.   - MCI_UPDATE_HDC is now supported
  64.   - MCI SAMPLES PER SECOND is now supported
  65.   - MCI STATUS_FRAME_RATE is now supported
  66.   - MCI STATUS_AUDIO STREAMS now returns "0" when a video-only 
  67.     MPEG file is opened
  68.   - MCI SET_AUDIO/VIDEO STREAMS is now supported
  69.   - MCI SET_TIME_FORMAT now supports the BYTES (or "2") parameter
  70.   - MCI SETAUDIO now supports LEFT and RIGHT parameters

  80. XingMPEG Driver (XMDRIVER.DRV)
  81. - The XingMPEG Driver's configuration dialog contains a new audio
  82.   sampling rate option "44kHz".
  83. - The XingMPEG Driver now supports a wider selection of CD-i titles.
  84. - The XingMPEG Driver now handles changes in frame resolution when
  85.   playing multiple tracks from a CDi or Video CD title.
  86. - Handling of on-the-fly switch from DIB to Primary Surface DCI has
  87.   been improved.
  88. - Handling of on-the-fly resizing of a non-DCI video window
  89.   under Windows 95 has been improved.
  90. - The XingMPEG Driver now properly accesses primary DCI surfaces
  91.   when opened as a child of an application's window.
  92. - Corrections have been made to the return values of several MCI
  93.   commands. 
  94. - The XingMPEG Driver now returns "1.2" when responding to the MCI

  105. XingMPEG Driver (XMDRIVER.DRV)
  106. - Installation of the XingMPEG Driver now registers two MCI device TYPES:
  107.   In addition to the "MpegVideo" device type, the device type "CDIVideo"
  108.   is registered to provide direct access to CD-i and VideoCD titles.
  109. - The XingMPEG Driver's configuration dialog contains a new option
  110.   "Crop to fit in standard window" that affects the driver's behavior
  111.   when playing CD-i movies. When this option is selected, CD-i movies
  112.   whose horizontal dimension is greater than 352 pixels are cropped
  113.   to fit in the standard 352 pixel wide Video Display window.
  114.   This feature is provided because some DCI-compliant Windows display
  115.   systems suffer degraded video playback performance when video frames'
  116.   horizontal dimension exceed 352 pixels. If you notice slower video
  117.   playback when playing CD-i titles, try enabling this feature.
  118. - The XingMPEG Driver now returns "1.1" when responding to the MCI
  119.   command "INFO VERSION".

  121. XingMPEG Player (XMPLAYER.EXE)
  122. - The XingMPEG PlayerÆs "File" menu now contains the entry "Open CD-i 
  123.   Movie". When this item is chosen, the XingMPEG Player automatically 
  124.   locates and opens all readable MPEG files on a mounted CD-i or VideoCD
  125.   disk.
  126. - The File Information windowÆs "File Duration" field now displays the
  127.   correct SMPTE formatted value; previously, calculation of this value
  128.   failed to account for the loaded fileÆs frame rate and assumed
  129.   30 frames/second.
  130. - Clicking on the Track Bar now moves the current position indicator
  131.   in increments equal to approximately 1/16 the total duration of
  132.   the current file. In previous versions, clicking on the Track Bar
  133.   moved the current position indicator in 1 second increments.

  138. XingMPEG Driver (XMDRIVER.DRV)
  139. - The XingMPEG Driver now returns "1.03" when responding to the MCI
  140.   command "INFO VERSION".
  141. - Eliminated an unnecessary reinstallation of the color pallette (in
  142.   256 color display mode) that occurred when the XingMPEG Driver switched
  143.   between DCI and DIB during video playback.

  145. * Note Regarding Unreadable MPEG Files:
  146.   The XingMPEG Player can play any MPEG file that conforms to the MPEG-1
  147.   standard. Some MPEG files do not conform to this standard; e.g., they may
  148.   have undergone data encryption that renders them readable only by the
  149.   application that performed the encryption; or they may contain non-standard
  150.   data. If you attempt to play such an MPEG file with the XingMPEG Player,
  151.   an error message appears indicating that the file is unreadable.

  158. - The "Rate Control Off" warning is re-enabled whenever the driver's
  159.   Rate Control setting is toggled.

  161. XingMPEG Driver (XMDRIVER.DRV)
  162. - The XingMPEG Driver now returns "1.02" when responding to the MCI
  163.   command "INFO VERSION".
  164. - Corrected method for sending a null region to DCI providers;
  165.   prior to this change, clipping the video window occasionally
  166.   produced unwanted remnants of the DCI surface.
  167. - Eliminated an unnecessary yield on Show Window call; prior to this
  168.   change, some applications (e.g., video screen savers) might destroy
  169.   the video window prior to closing the MCI driver instance.
  170. - Improved handling of bad data in an MPEG stream; prior to this change,
  171.   corrupted data in an MPEG stream could cause cessation of video playback.
  172. - Eliminated problem whereby the Performance diagnostic failed to play
  173.   video in some 256-color display environments; this change also
  174.   eliminated potential playback problem when an MPEG file is passed to
  175.   XMPLAYER as a command line argument.

  181. INSTALLATION
  182. - You can now deinstall XingMPEG Player components by running the
  183.   SETUP program and deselecting items.

  186. - Clicking the "Seek to Start" button during playback no longer stops
  187.   playback.
  188. - When the Performance Diagnostic dialog is opened, the default "Drive"
  189.   is now your PC's local fixed drive on which the XingMPEG Player
  190.   is installed.

  192. XingMPEG Driver (XMDRIVER.DRV)
  193. - The XingMPEG Driver now automatically determines if your PC's
  194.   Windows Sound System is capable of 16-bit audio playback; this
  195.   feature insures proper audio playback on PC's equipped with
  196.   8-bit-only sound systems.
  197. - The XingMPEG Driver now returns "1.01" when responding to the MCI
  198.   command "INFO VERSION".

  200. XingMPEG Saver (XMSAVER.SCR)
  201. - The Montage option has been removed from the XingMPEG Saver's
  202.   setup dialog.
