  6. The file you have downloaded, KVID-OS2.EXE, contains OS/2 Warp 
  7. drivers v1.24 for the Kelvin Video64 board.  This is a 
  8. supplemental driver release, not a complete driver disk set.  
  9. This does not replace your existing Kelvin Video64 driver disk 
  10. set, but is a supplement to it.  This readme file contains 
  11. instructions for installing the drivers.  You have already 
  12. completed the first step, by unpacking the KVID-OS2.EXE file and 
  13. reading this.  These drivers are only appropriate for the Kelvin 
  14. Video64 board, not other Kelvin models.  Do not use these drivers 
  15. with the Kelvin MPEG, Kelvin64, or KelvinEZ boards.

  17. When you unpack KVID-OS2.EXE you should have the following files:

  28. Installing the Drivers
  29. ----------------------
  30. These instructions assume that you already have the Kelvin 
  31. Video64 board installed in your system, and that you already have 
  32. the OS/2 Warp operating system installed on your hard disk.  In 
  33. addition, these instructions assume you have installed OS/2 on 
  34. the "C:" drive and you are installing the Kelvin Video64 driver 
  35. from floppy drive "A".  We will be using the OS/2 utility 
  36. DSPINSTL.EXE utility to install these new drivers.  The procedure 
  37. is menu driven, and somewhat self explanatory.  Here are the 
  38. step-by-step instructions for the procedure.  
  39.  
  40. 1.  Reset your display adapter support in OS/2 to VGA.  Refer to 
  41.     your OS/2 Installation Manual for assistance.  This is most 
  42.     important if you have installed other high resolutions 
  43.     drivers prior to installing your Kelvin Video64 board.
  44.  
  45. 2.  Insert a blank, formatted high density floppy disk into your 
  46.     "A:" drive, and create a subdirectory on it called OS2.  Copy 
  47.     the Kelvin Video64 files (listed above) into the OS2 
  48.     subdirectory on the floppy.  This is a very important step.  
  49.     The installer program expects to find the drivers in a 
  50.     subdirectory called OS2, and won't proceed properly if they 
  51.     are not.  Here are specific commands you can run from a DOS 
  52.     or OS/2 command prompt:
  53.  
  54. A: <CR>                      (logon to the A drive)
  55. MD OS2                       (make a directory called OS2)
  56. CD OS2                       (change to the new OS2 subdirectory)
  57. C:\{dirname}\KVID-OS2        (unpack files to this subdirectory)
  58.                            
  59. (Substitute the appropriate drive letter and directory name for 
  60. your system, where your copy of KVID-OS2.EXE is located.)
  61.  
  62. 3.  After creating the floppy driver disk, go to the OS/2 
  63.     desktop.  Before beginning new driver installation, we 
  64.     recommend that  you shut down any other programs you may be 
  65.     running.
  66.  
  67. 4.  From the OS/2 Workplace Shell, double click on the OS/2 
  68.     System icon.
  69.  
  70. 5.  Double click on the Command Prompts folder.
  71.  
  72. 6.  Double click on the OS/2 Full Screen or OS/2 Windows icon.
  73.  
  74. 7.  Insert the OS/2 driver diskette you created in step 2 into 
  75.     drive A, and from the command prompt, copy the ALSC.DSC file 
  76.     from the floppy to the C:\OS2\INSTALL directory.  Here is the 
  77.     command:

  79. COPY A:\OS2\ALSC.DSC C:\OS2\INSTALL
  80.  
  81. 8.  From the command prompt, change to the C:\OS2\INSTALL 
  82.     directory and run DSPINSTL.EXE.
  83.  
  84. 9.  Select Primary Display and click the "OK" button on the 
  85.     Display Driver Install screen.
  86.  
  87. 10. Select the "Alliance Semiconductor ProMotion" display driver 
  88.     from the Primary Display Driver List screen, and click on the 
  89.     "OK" button.  (You'll probably have to scroll all the way up 
  90.     to the top of the display driver list to find the Alliance 
  91.     entry.)  At this point, some versions of OS/2 display a 
  92.     warning about support for display adapters.
  93.  
  94. 11. Use the "Change" button to change the path for the source 
  95.     files to A:\OS2, and click on the "Install..." button.
  96.  
  97. 12. The Kelvin Video64 drivers are now installed on your 
  98.     computer.  You will be asked to restart OS/2.  Click on the 
  99.     "OK" button.
  100.  
  101. 13. Close the OS/2 command prompt screen with the "EXIT" command.  
  102.     Close the "Command Prompts Icon View" screen (if it's open).  
  103.     Remove the OS/2 driver diskette from drive A: and shutdown 
  104.     OS/2.
  105.  
  106. 14. After the system has restarted, the "OS/2 System folder - 
  107.     Icon View" should still be open from the previous session.  
  108.     If it isn't, open it now.  Double click on the "System Setup" 
  109.     icon, then double click on the "System" icon.  
  110.  
  111. 15. The "Screen" tab information should be showing by default.  
  112.     If it isn't, click on that tab to display it.  Select the 
  113.     desired screen resolution, color depth, and refresh rate from 
  114.     the list and close the applet.
  115.  
  116. 16. Shutdown OS/2 and restart the system for the new setting to 
  117.     take effect.  
  118.  
  119.  
  120. Known Issues
  121. ------------
  122. a.  When running WIN-OS/2 refresh rates for all resolutions 
  123.     default to 60Hz.
  124.  
  125. b.  At 800x600x16M colors there is no cursor in the System 
  126.     Editor.
  127.  
  128. c.  With 2MB boards, 800x600x16m @ 72Hz mode fails with wavy 
  129.     lines through the OS/2 desktop.
  130.  
  131. d.  With 1MB boards, 800x600x256 @ 72Hz mode shows static lines 
  132.     when moving around the desktop.  Problem does not occur with 
  133.     2MB RAM installed on the board.

  136. OS/2 Limitations
  137. ----------------
  138. a.  When you play an AVI movie in OS/2 then switch to WIN-OS2 
  139.     Full Screen, the AVI movie is still displayed.
  140.  
  141. b.  Playing an AVI clip at 16 million colors will not work.
