  4.   This file contains information that is not included in the OKIJET 2010 Printer
  5.      User's Guide or in the on-line help.

  7. [ Network Printing
  8.  
  9.      w Sharing a OKIJET 2010 on a network.
  10.  
  11.     The OKIJET 2010 will operate as a shared printer in a network
  12.     environment that supports file-sharing but only through the OKIJET 2010         printer's sharing solution.  For more information on how to setup
  13.     your OKIJET 2010 as a shared printer in a network environment search
  14.     for the Queue Menu section of the OKIJET 2010's on-line help.
  15.  
  16.     The OKIJET 2010 can be shared in a network environment but not
  17.     through the methods detailed in the documentation supplied with the
  18.     network.  Windows for Workgroups,  for instance,  has it's own
  19.     method for sharing a printer but the OKIJET 2010 will not operate
  20.     correctly if that method is followed.  It will operate correctly under the
  21.     Windows for Workgroups environment if the OKIJET 2010 is
  22.     set up according to the method detailed in the Queue Menu section
  23.     of the OKIJET 2010's on-line help.
  24.  
  25. : System Requirements
  26.  
  27.     386 processor or higher
  28.     Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (386 Enhanced Mode)
  29.     4MB of RAM (8MB required by some applications)
  30.  
  31.     ²  WIN-OS/2 printing is not supported
  32.  
  33. ╢ Speeding up Your System
  34.  
  35.      s  Print at 300 dpi if possible.    
  36.      s  Remove as many unused fonts as possible from your system.    
  37.      s  Increase computer memory to 8MB or higher.    
  38.      s  Increase the amount of virtual memory in Windows.    
  39.      s  Run a memory-management program, such as MEMMAKER or
  40.         RAMBOOST, to optimize your conventional memory.
  41.  
  42.     $ See Chapter 14,  Optimizing Windows,  of the Microsoft Windows
  43.            User's Guide for more help.

  45. S Print Quality and Color Issues
  46.  
  47.      w Automatic mode;  colors on printout differ from screen.  
  48.  
  49.     A better color match may be obtained by either:

  51.     ü  Changing the halftoning method,  found in the Halftoning section
  52.           of the OKIJET 2010 printer driver, to Airbrush.
  53.

  55.  
  56.     é  Selecting Photographic Color for the Document Type in the
  57.           Document Type/Color section of the OKIJET 2010 printer
  58.           driver. 
  59.  
  60.      w Printouts are too dark or fuzzy. 
  61.      
  62.     Some applications use their own halftoning methods.  These
  63.     applications may allow you to select the printer driver's
  64.     halftoning method instead of their own.  Some applications
  65.     which behave in this manner include:
  66.  
  67.     Adobe PhotoShop 2.5 & 3.0
  68.     Micrografx Picture Publisher 4.0 & 5.0
  69.     Aldus PhotoStyler 2.0.
  70.  
  71.   w WordPerfect for Windows;  black prints as color 
  72.      
  73.     If a color document is to be printed as a black (greyscale)
  74.     document,  you will need to change the Color Format
  75.     setting,  found in the Document Type/Color tab in the
  76.     Windows Driver Setup section of the OKIJET 2010 Control     
  77.     Program, to the CMYK setting.  Selecting Black from within 
  78.     the WordPerfect Print dialog will function correctly only if this 
  79.     change has been made.

  81.   Printing from Windows
  82.  
  83.      w Windows 95.
  84.  
  85.     Windows 95 (as of the date of this document) has not been released.
  86.     Please contact Okidata for information on obtaining the most recent
  87.     OKIJET 2010 printer driver if you encounter problems when printing
  88.     in Windows 95.
  89.  
  90.      w No communication with printer.
  91.  
  92.     It is important that you use a fully-shielded IEEE 1284 compliant parallel
  93.     printer cable.  
  94.  
  95.     Many switchboxes do not support bi-directional communication.  If you
  96.     encounter problems while printing through a switchbox,  you should
  97.     remove it to insure proper operation of the printer.
  98.  
  99.      w Print Setup from within Excel.
  100.  
  101.     Some applications such as Excel may not allow you to properly set printer
  102.     features from within those applications.  You should instead exit the
  103.     application and make any printer configuration changes from within
  104.     the Windows printer control panel.
  105.     
  106.     
  107. ■ Printing from a DOS Box
  108.  
  109.      w Printing from DOS outside of Windows.
  110.  
  111.     The OKIJET 2010 will ONLY print from a DOS session under
  112.     Windows;  it will not print from a native (non-Windows) DOS session.
  113.  
  114.     The only exception is that you can copy a print file, created by the
  115.     OKIJET 2010 Windows Driver,  to the OKIJET 2010,  from a native
  116.     DOS session. 
  117.  
  118.     w Using a HP 500C printer driver;  blank pages are printed.  
  119.  
  120.     The OKIJET 2010 emulates a HP 500C if you print from a DOS
  121.     application under Windows.  If only blank pages are printed,  check
  122.     the orientation setting,  found in the DOS Printing section of the
  123.     OKIJET 2010 Control Program, is set to portrait mode.  Some
  124.     applications require this setting to be portrait even if the printout is
  125.     meant to be landscape.
  126.  
  127.      w Using a HP 500/500C printer driver;  single page prints on
  128.       multiple pages. 
  129.  
  130.     This problem can result from task-switching during a DOS print
  131.     job or from an application that is slow in sending data to the printer
  132.     port.  If you are running the DOS application from the Windows MS 
  133.     DOS PROMPT,  you can correct the problem by enabling Background
  134.     Execution as follows:
  135.  
  136.     ü  Run the PIF Editor program found in the Windows Main folder.
  137.  
  138.     é  Load the file "DOSPRMPT.PIF" found in the C:\WINDOWS
  139.          directory.
  140.  
  141.      â  Select and activate the box labeled Background found in the
  142.           Execution section at the bottom-right of the PIF Editor screen.
  143.  
  144.      ä  Select File and then Save.
  145.  
  146.     This turns on background execution for all future DOS sessions.
  147.  
  148.     If you are not running the application from the MS DOS PROMPT
  149.     consult your Windows documentation about creating a PIF file for
  150.     your application and enabling background execution.  If your
  151.     application already has a PIF file you may edit it as described above.
  152.     To determine if a program already has a PIF file,  highlight the icon
  153.     and select Properties from the Program Manager File menu.  If the
  154.     file specified in the Command Line section has a ".PIF" extension you
  155.     should edit that PIF file.
  156.  
  157.     Another solution to this problem is to select Run Minimized from the
  158.     Options tab of the OKIJET 2010 Control Program.  This will allow the
  159.     DOS application to remain in the foreground when printing instead of
  160.     bringing the Control Program to the foreground.
  161.  
  162.     If your application does not go to the background and you are seeing
  163.     single page print jobs printing on multiple pages the port may be timing
  164.     out because the application is taking too long to process the job.  This
  165.     problem is more likely to occur on slower computer.  In order to
  166.     compensate for slower computers and/or applications you can increase
  167.     the Form Feed Timeout value in the DOS Printing tab of the OKIJET 
  168.     2010 Control Program.
  169.  
  170.      w Using a HP 500/500C printer driver;  printout won't fit on
  171.       single page.
  172.  
  173.     The OKIJET 2010 printer,  as well as the HP 500/500C,  has an
  174.     unprintable region at the bottom of the printed page.  The HP 500 allows
  175.     print to be placed as low as approximately 0.33 inches from the bottom
  176.     of the page but recommends to allow a 0.5 inch bottom margin.  The
  177.     OKIJET 2010 instead prevents printing below the 0.5 inch bottom
  178.     margin and places that print on a successive page.  You should set a
  179.     minimum 0.5 inch bottom margin in your DOS applications to prevent
  180.     page overflow problems.
  181.  
  182.      w OKIJET 2010 Control Program comes to the foreground
  183.       while printing,  taking the focus away from what I am currently
  184.       working on.
  185.  
  186.     This is how the printer functions by default.  If you do not want to be
  187.     interrupted while printing,  select Run Minimized from the Options
  188.     tab in the OKIJET 2010 Control Program.
  189.  
  190. ╒ Uninstalling Driver
  191.  
  192.      w Need to uninstall driver.
  193.  
  194.     O NOTE:   Before modifying any of your system files such as WIN.INI &
  195.                  SYSTEM.INI you should make BACKUP copies of those
  196.                  files!
  197.  
  198.     v To remove the OKIJET 2010 driver from your computer system,
  199.            you need to do the following:
  200.  
  201.     - Remove the OKIJET 2010 printer driver from the available printers list in the
  202.        Printers utility in the Control Panel.
  203.  
  204.     - Delete the OKIJET 2010 group from your desktop (minimize and select this group
  205.        and then hit the delete key).
  206.  
  207.     v You need to delete the following files:

  209.     - In the C:\WINDOWS directory:
