  54. 2.) Single-screen configuration

  56. 2.1.) Supported boards

  66. 2.2.) Hardware installation
  67.  
  68.   Install your graphics board as described in the Hardware Manual
  69.   supplied with your board.
  70.

  72. 2.3.) Driver installation
  73.  
  74.   It is required that you have installed Windows NT 4.0 with a
  75.   graphics driver for your VGA board.
  76.  
  77.  
  78.   a) By using the Icon "My Computer", you can start the "Control Panel"
  79.      program.
  80.  
  81.   b) Start the "Display-Tool". Switch to the "Settings" section.
  82.  
  83.   c) Please choose the "Change Display Type" button.
  84.  
  85.   d) The "Display Type" window offers an overview of the currently
  86.      active Display Driver. Please activate the "Change..."-button.
  87.  
  88.   e) The "Select Device" window offers you an overview of all display
  89.      drivers supplied with your Windows NT 4.0 Installation. Please
  90.      select the "Have Disk..."-button.
  91.   
  92.   f) In the "Install from Disk" window, please choose the driver and
  93.      directory containing your installation software. You can search
  94.      your drivers by using the "Browse"-button. Only files with the 
  95.      filename extension ".inf" are displayed. The file you have to
  96.      look for is named "mirosing.inf".
  97.  
  98.   g) After selecting the proper file you choose the installed graphics
  99.      board from the "Change Display" window. Select your board and
  100.      press "OK" or doubleclick the appropriate entry in the list.
  101.  
  102.   h) Select "YES" in the "Third-party Drivers" messagebox.
  103.      The driver files are now being copied to your harddisk.
  104.  
  105.   i) Close the "Display Type" and the "Display Properties" windows and
  106.      reboot the computer.
  107.  
  108.   j) After the restart the driver which has just been installed
  109.      is active with the lowest resolution (31 kHz VESA monitor:
  110.      640 x 480, 256 colours, 60 Hz). Go on with 2.4.) to select a
  111.      monitor and with 2.5.) to change the resolution.
  112.  
  113.   If problems occur with the display driver when restarting
  114.   the system, you can reselect the VGA driver by using the
  115.   "Windows NT Version 4.0 [VGA mode]" option in the boot menu.
  116.   If this doesn`t solve the problem use the "last good menu"
  117.   option to reselect the old configuration.
  118.  
  119.   If your system uses another display driver, you need the installation
  120.   disk to enable the miro driver again.
  121.

  123. 2.4.) miro Monitor Select - Control Panel extension
  124.  
  125.   a) By using the Icon "My Computer", you can start the "Control Panel"
  126.      program.
  127.  
  128.   b) To select a monitor, start the "miro Monitor Select"-Tool.
  129.  
  130.   c) The title is the name of your graphics board.
  131.  
  132.   d) Select your monitor from the "Monitor" list. If your monitor
  133.      is not listed, select the monitor  from the "Multi Frequency"
  134.      monitors with the frequency which comes close to the frequency
  135.      of your monitor.
  136.  
  137.   e) To confirm your selection, click "OK".
  138.  
  139.   f) In the "Monitor Settings Change" window you can restart your
  140.      computer immediately by pressing the "Restart Now" button.
  141.      You can also click the "Don't Restart Now" button to get back
  142.      to the "Control Panel" program. Restart the system using the
  143.      taskbar.
  144.  
  145.   g) After the restart the selected monitor is active. If the
  146.      resolutions and refresh rates differ from the settings of
  147.      the previous monitor, the system will notify you. Then, the
  148.      640 x 480 resolution with 256 colors and 31 kHz / 60 Hz is
  149.      enabled. To change the resolution, proceed with 2.5.).
  150.  
  151.   h) Instad of proceeding as described under e), you can abort the
  152.      tool by pressing the "Cancel" button. In this case, the settings
  153.      you made will not be enabled.
  154.  
  155.   PLEASE NOTE:
  156.   The "miro Monitor Select" icon is only available in the "Control Panel"
  157.   program, if a driver installed from this disk is currently active.

  160. 2.5.) Changing the resolutions
  161.  
  162.   a) By using the Icon "My Computer", you can start the "Control Panel"
  163.      program.
  164.  
  165.   b) Start the "Display"-tool to select/change the video display.
  166.  
  167.   c) The "List All Modes" button lists the resolutions your
  168.      board and your monitor support and the number of colours
  169.      and frequencies. Double-click to select a resolution.
  170.  
  171.   d) You can also use the "Desktop area" slider, the
  172.      "Color Palette" and the "Refresh Frequency" windows to
  173.      select a resolution. Keep in mind that the settings are
  174.      interdependent. If you select an invalid setting, the
  175.      other options change so that a valid setting is restored.
  176.  
  177.   e) To check the selected resolution in a testscreen, click
  178.      the "Test" button and confirm.
  179.  
  180.      - Is the selected resolution/frequency displayed on the monitor?
  181.      - Is the correct resolution specified?
  182.      - Are the arrows in the testscreen margins visible?
  183.      - Are the coloured and the hatched areas displayed correctly?
  184.  
  185.   f) After five seconds the testscreen disappears and you see the
  186.      workspace again. If the resolution on the testscreen is OK,
  187.      confirm the "Testing Mode" window with "Yes".
  188.  
  189.   g) You can restart the computer immediately by clicking "Restart Now"
  190.      in the "Display settings change" window. You can also click the
  191.      "Don┤t Restart Now" button to go back to the "Display type" window.
  192.      To close this window click "Close". To close the "Display settings"
  193.      window click "OK". Use the Program Manager to restart the system.
  194.  
  195.   h) After the restart the new resolution is active.
  196.  
  197.   i) If you do not like the resolution, click "No" in the "Testing Mode"
  198.      window. After another message has appeared, you are back in the
  199.      "Display Settings" window. Select another resolution and continue
  200.      with e) or close the Display Tool by clicking the "Cancel" button.
  201.  
  202.   The "Font Size" window allows you to select another font size
  203.   (see d)). If you have not installed the fonts of the selected
  204.   size, you are requested to insert the installation disk under
  205.   A:\. Overwrite the default with the drive letter of you CD drive
  206.   and enter the path \i386. Insert the Windows NT Version 4.0 CD
  207.   in your CD drive so that the required files can be copied to your
  208.   hard disk.

  212. 3.) Deleting drivers
  213.  
  214.   Delete drivers you do not need anymore by enabling
  215.   another driver using the Display Tool of the Control
  216.   Panel program and by restarting the sytem afterwards.
  217.   Then, use the File Manager to delete the display driver
  218.   (extension .DLL) under \WINNT40\SYSTEM32, the miniport
  219.   driver (extension .SYS) under \WINNT40\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS 
  220.   and the configuration files (extension .INI) under 
  221.   \WINNT40\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\MIRO\TIMING.

  224. 4.) In case of problems
  225.  
  226.   In case of problems with the VGA DOS box in the
  227.   fullscreen mode ask your dealer or miro for an update
  228.   of the BIOS-ROM. In some cases an unsynchronized image
  229.   may stabilize by switching between the window and the
  230.   fullscreen mode of the VGA DOS box.
  231.  
  232.   The VGA DOS box only supports the resolutions available
  233.   for a 'standard VGA', e.g. display modes of up to
  234.   320x200 pixels with 256 colors or 640x480 pixels with
  235.   16 colors. If a DOS application tries to use a higher
  236.   resolution, the VGA DOS box, or, in the worst case,
  237.   the hole system might crash.

  240. 5.) Special hint
  241.  
  242.   Please do not try to install drivers or system-relevant
  243.   tools which are suited for Microsoft Windows 3.x or
  244.   Microsoft Windows 95. Windows NT 4.0 does not support
  245.   these drivers or tools. In the worst case, this may
  246.   cause a system crash.
