2.) Hardware installation
Install your miroVIDEO DC20 board as described in the Hardware
Manual supplied with your board.
3.) Driver installation
It is only possible to install the driver from a floppy disk!
If you have taken this driver from network or from a CD make a copy
to a floppy diskette!
a) In the "main" group start the "Command prompt".
b) Change to the drive with the installation diskette.
c) Call "SETUP.BAT". The "miroVIDEO DC20 control program" file
and both help files will be copied to your harddisk. Furthermore
the Windows NT "Control Panel" program will be invoked.
d) Start the "Drivers" tool to select / change multimedia drivers.
e) Click the "Add" button.
f) In the "List of Drivers" window you get information about
all installed multimedia drivers.
g) Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and click "OK" to confirm.
h) In the "Install Driver" window you are requested to insert the
installation disk "A:\". If necessary, overwrite the default
selection. Click "OK" to confirm.
i) In the "Add Unlisted or Updated Driver" window you see the list
of drivers for the miroVIDEO DC20. Select "miroVIDEO DC20 Capture
Driver" and click "OK" to confirm.
j) In the "miroVIDEO DC20 Capture Setup" click "OK" to confirm.
k) Repeat steps e) to j) for the "miroVIDEO DC20 Codec Driver"
resp. "miroVIDEO DC20 Codec Setup". Both drivers must be
installed to work properly with a video application!
l) Close the "Control Panel" program with the "Close" button.
Close the "Command Prompt".
3.1.) Video presets for Adobe Premiere 4.2
In the diskette's subdirectories "ENGLISH" / "FRANCAIS" / "DEUTSCH"
you find presets for Adobe Premiere 4.2 corresponding to the selected
language. For an english version of Premiere you have to copy these
files manually to the "PLUGINS" subdirectory of your Premiere
installation. For french take "MODULES" and for german "ZSMODULE".
3.2.) Microsoft's VIDCAP32 video capture program
In the diskette's subdirectory VIDCAP32 you find Microsoft's VIDCAP32
video capture program. Copy the program and the help file manually to
your system32 directory (eg. c:\winnt35\system32) and add an icon
reference inside a program mananger's group. There is no support by
miro for this program.
4.) Deleting drivers
a) In the "main" group start the "Control Panel" program.
b) Start the "Drivers" tool to select/change multimedia drivers.
d) From the "List of Drivers" window select the "miroVIDEO DC20
Capture Driver" and click the "Remove" button.
e) Repeat step d) with the "miroVIDEO DC20 Codec Driver".
Both drivers must be removed together!
f) Call "Devices" at the "Control Panel" window.
g) Select the DC20 driver and press the "Stop" button.
h) Delete the "DC20CTRL" icon from your main group.
i) Delete manually the file "DC20.SYS" from your driver directory
(eg. c:\winnt35\system32\drivers") and all other related files
from your system32 directory (eg. c:\winnt35\system32).
5.) How to work with the driver software
You can work with the driver software as decribed for Windows 95
but there are implementation restrictions because of the early state.
If an application hangs, you have to kill it with the "task manager".
Then close all other video applications and run the "Drivers" tool
from the "control panel". From the "List of Drivers" window select
the "miroVIDEO DC20 Capture Driver" and click the "Setup" button.
Confirm the "miroVIDEO DC20 Capture Setup" with the "OK" button. This
forces a driver reloading.
It's possible to work with the driver as an user with normal user
privileges. Administrator rights are only necessary to install the
driver.
All source- and format-dialog settings and settings of the "control
program" are saved permanently and separately for each user. If you
got problems with these settings you can return to default confi-
guration by removing these settings from registry. Start the
registry-editor REGEDT32.EXE of the \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. Look
for the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER on Local Machine
\Software
\miro
\dc20
Mark the "Data" value and delete it. Take care not to change or
delete any other value or key - your system could be corrupted doing
this.
6.) Known Implementation restrictions
This software runs only on Intel compatible processors. Versions
for Risc-CPUs are not yet available.
Up to now it is only tested with "Windows NT Workstation Version
3.51" (build 1057) and "Version 4.0 Beta 2" (build 1314). Additional
tests have to be done with other versions of Windows NT.
The support of multiprocessor boards is still under construction.
Some more tests with various boards have to be done.
The "miroVIDEO Expert" has to be integrated to future versions of
the driver software. Do not use the actual Windows95 version of
this program. The results of this program are misleading in a
Windows NT environment.
Internal errors are not reported. This has to be added. Actually
there is no way to find out what might be wrong.
For data format 16 bit RGB / 32 bit RGB the interpolation filter
has to be added.
National language support has to be added.
A miro lookalike installation has to be added.
Up to now we have only tested Microsoft's "Vidcap32" and "MediaPlayer",
Adobe Premiere 4.2 and Ulead Mediastudio 2.5. Tests with other
programs have to be done.
Microsoft recommends not to use any 16 bit video program together
with 32 bit driver software because of small incompatibilities
between 16 bit and 32 bit versions of the "Video for Windows"
interface. So it is on your own risc.
During streaming operations you should avoid to run too much back-
ground processes. You should avoid that paging to disk occures. If
this happens close any unused applications and services or add more
main memory to your computer. We recommand 32 .. 64 Megabyte.
Video overlay is not supported. You will only see a window filled
with your desktop background color.
By MAKE MOVIE you have always to select a LIMIT DATA RATE.
If you don't do this it's possible that the movie stops during playback.
