  13. 1. DISK CONTENTS
  14. This disk contains the following main programs:
  15.      SETUP.EXE (Installation Program)
  16.      HSERIAL.EXE (High Speed Serial Utility)
  17.      EPRCPO.EXE (Remote Control Panel Utility)
  18.  
  19. SETUP.EXE installs the utility programs. Installation involoves these
  20. three steps:
  21.  
  22. * Copying and configuring the high speed serial utility
  23. * Copying and configuring the remote control panel utility
  24. * Modifying your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
  25.  
  26. HSERIAL.EXE adjusts your computer's RS-232C interface to run at a higher
  27. communication speed than an ordinary RS-232C interface.
  28.  
  29. EPRCPO.EXE lets you set the printer's SelecType functions from your
  30. computer's screen.

  32. 2. ENVIRONMENT SUPPORTED
  33.  
  34. Computer  : IBM PC/AT or compatibles with an 80286 CPU or higher
  35. System    : MS-DOS version 3.30 or later
  36. Display   : VGA monitor
  37. Memory    : At least 440 KB of available memory
  38. Cable     : An EPSON certified parallel or serial cable
  39.  
  40. * Also, the printer and computer must be directly connected (these
  41. utilities will not operate on network printers). EPSON does not
  42. guarantee the use of any other cables or re-routed connections through
  43. switch boxes, etc.

  45. A DOS compatible mouse (version 7.04 or later) is supported by the remote 
  46. control panel. If you prefer to use a mouse, install the mouse driver 
  47. before you start the remote control panel utility.

  49. 3. SETUP
  50.  
  51. Insert the disk into the floppy drive and set the floppy drive to be the
  52. current drive (for example a:\ for floppy drive A). Then type SETUP and
  53. press Enter. The setup program starts, and after that the following
  54. instructions are shown on the computer screen.

  57. 4. HIGH SPEED SERIAL UTILITY

  60. Type the following from the DOS command line.
  61.  
  62.      HSERIAL /P=n /B=m [/?]
  63.  
  64. [Switch]
  65. /P : Specifies the COMn port (n = 1 or 2)
  66. /B : Specifies the baud rate in bps (m = 3, 6, 12, 24,
  67.      48, 96, 192, 384, or 576; units are hundreds)
  68. /? : Help

  71. HSERIAL /P=1 /B=384
  72. Above command line specifies the COM1 port and a baud rate of 38,400
  73. bps.

  75. Interface protocol is always set to the following:
  76.      Hand shake     : DTR/DSR
  77.      Data bits      : 8 bits
  78.      Parity         : None
  79.      Stop bits      : 1 bit
  80.  
  81. Note: Due to hardware limitations, some PC-s or optional I/F card may 
  82. not support high-speed settings.

  85. 5. REMOTE CONTROL PANEL UTILITY

  87. [Usage]
  88. Type the following from the DOS command line.

  90.      EPRCPO
  91.  
  92. * The printer's BI-D setting in the SelecType Parallel B menu must be set
  93. to ON when you use the parallel B interface for the connection.
  94. * If you are using the serial interface, the parameters of both the
  95. printer and the HSERIAL.EXE utility must match.
